ABOUT ME

I am a Psychotherapist licensed in Maryland (LCSW-C) and Washington, DC (LICSW). Born and raised in the DC area, I attended Sidwell Friends School for 14 years before receiving my B.A. in Afro-American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. After working in the non-profit sector for three years, I decided that my true passion was clinical social work and graduated from Columbia University with an M.S.W. in 2001.

For two years I worked at House of Ruth providing individual and group counseling to victims of domestic violence and their children. In 2004, I completed a two-year advanced clinical training program in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Washington School of Psychiatry. I have been in private practice since 2004.

I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Work (GWSCSW), the Washington School of Psychiatry (WSP), and the American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP).

MY APPROACH

I believe that individuals have a great capacity to grow and change through therapy. My goal is to help patients better understand themselves by developing insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. To facilitate this process, I provide a safe and supportive environment in which counterproductive patterns of behavior are examined. I consider myself to be an eclectic therapist. My clinical training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, yet I often utilize other approaches to meet the individual needs of my patients.
