Insurance & Payments AcceptedIndividual counseling is respectful of your privacy and the sacredness of the confidential therapeutic relationship, which is the reason I do not bill insurance companies for therapy. In order to have your insurance pay for alcohol and drug counseling I must give you a mental disorder diagnosis. I do not find it helpful to give anyone a mental disorder diagnosis. You are not your symptoms, you are more than a label, and you do have the power to change. Depending upon the insurance company individual protocols, I am required to write reports to show that you are still sick with that mental disorder. This report shares the details of your diagnosed mental disorder, which goes into your health records, and needs to show that you are getting better, but are still sick. Someone from the insurance company, who does not know either of us, will assess how well counseling is going and decide if they will pay for therapy at all, or continue to pay for an arbitrary number of sessions. If you are self-employed or ever might be, a mental disorder diagnosis on your medical record can make getting health care insurance very expensive or even impossible to obtain. I believe strongly that therapy needs are something that you and I decide – not a stranger following managed care guidelines for profit. Cash, check and all major credit cards accepted for payment.
