Methamphetamine Rehab Costs

Methamphetamine is a stimulant that affects the central nervous system and is highly addictive. It disrupts normal communication between neurotransmitters, thereby making normal physical and psychological functioning completely impossible. The effects of methamphetamine use can be long-lasting or permanent and potential relapses and dependency are likely. Highs can last up to several days, and since tolerance occurs fairly quickly, chronic meth users often binge in order to sustain their high.

Why Meth is Used

People generally take methamphetamine in order to feel physically or mentally energized or euphoric, although delusion, hallucinations, confusion, paranoia, agitation and violent behavior are also likely to occur. Some negative physical effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, heavy sweating and sores from picking at the skin.

Methamphetamine use occurs more often with people who also take drugs such as alcohol, marijuana and cocaine, rather than people who take drugs such as heroin, and people often start using it because it is more accessible than cocaine. They get the same rush but for less money. Prices range from $25 per .25 gram to $100 per gram, but the cost of addiction and the resulting emotional and physical damage is much greater.

Inpatient Rehab for Meth

Inpatient rehabilitation for methamphetamine users can cost up to $10,000 each month or more, depending on the facility and the treatments offered. Clinics such as Michael’s House in Palm Springs claim to offer more affordable care with the same individualized attention offered at other rehab centers, with outpatient services as low as $3,000. Still, outpatient care can cost as much as $12,000. This fairly wide price range is attributable to factors such as the length of the program, the area in which it is being offered and the different types and number of programs offered. Passages Malibu offers inpatient, individualized care for $40,000 to $50,000 per month, but you get a private chef, a team of doctors, therapy sessions, hypnotherapists, masseuses and spiritual counselors. Beau Monde of Southern California offers private houses for its patrons, along with gourmet meals, massages, whale watching and shopping opportunities, all for around $96,000 a month or more. If these places sound more like luxury resorts, you wouldn’t be surprised to find out that many of Hollywood’s rich and famous have had stints in many of them. For example, the luxurious Promises rehab center in Malibu, with real estate overlooking the Pacific and three luxurious houses that accommodate only 24 patients at a time, has been host to a slew of famous movie stars.

Other Rehab Options

Other options include sobriety houses, religious-based programs and support groups, as well as holistic care. These options depend much more on the individuals desire to free themselves from chemical dependency, but the rewards may be just as great or greater.

These days, more and more insurance companies are covering the costs of rehabilitation; so if you have a drug problem, check with your provider to see if they can cover the cost of your treatment. Financing is also available at most facilities. You may not be able to stay at luxury resort clinics, but help is always within your reach. The price you pay for your health and happiness is worth it.
