Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia is properly defined as the fear or superstition of the number 666. In the Bible, the Book of Revelation goes into detail about the number 666 and how it is the mark of the beast. This number has a negative connotation and many people do anything possible to avoid seeing this number. People who suffer with this phobia are engrossed in keeping that number out of their lives. This fear leads to delusional thinking, which is where the superstition is derived from.

People who believe in the superstitions associated with Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia often feel that this number may be encoded in the nation’s banking system or other irrational thoughts and conspiracy theories. They may believe that the number 666 is encoded in medical government records and even in personal files. Although the true phobia is rare, this is a quite popular belief in society. In the past, this phobia has impacted entire communities, however, not significantly – which is a requirement of a phobia.
