I am guessing that a degree in finance or business would provide the best preperation. Credit counselors need the power of persuasion to convince people to use their services and people in financial trouble experience stress so, therefore, a psychology degree might come in handy.
It would be a great addition, but not at all necessary. Remember that when you start your job, you're going to be trained in it so that's the time for you to get familiarized with the financial terms and concepts.

@XanaxDid: you complete your education in psychology and you would like to help those people having problem in finance and everyone have unique problem. You just change your profession just for money. When companies hire credit counselor they check degree as well as their experience. No credit counseling company give you chance for job or internship.
