Apologies for beign somewhat brief/informal, but we are busy addressing issues and trying to make adjustments to keep as many people happy and secure in continual use of the site as possible.

A few important notes:

1. We will be removing the "Currently Online" feature within 24-48hrs since that seems to be an area of contention. Although, I believe it should be noted that this really doesn't seem to create any particular vulnerability or potential problem. Whether you're known to be "online" (meaning

currently have an AAC forum webpage open) or not does not affect any interactive feature or functionality on the site. (i.e. there is no "chat" or other live-talking feature.) We will also be removing the "Top Posters" feature which lists members with the most post activity.

2. It has been mentioned that members like the "total and required anonimity" of the previous version of the site which included no private messaging features or features such as being able to create a profile which could include such things as links to a Facebook profile. These features are simply part of nearly 100% of the modern forum software options on the market and were therefore not something we specifically decided were perfect features to include for AAC. With that in mind, we hope the community understands that they are not in any way required to utilize these features or fill in any of this information.

  • One thing we felt was actually a major improvement in privacy was the ability to ask a specific member a question privately or share a discussion privately via the PM system instead of having to post the question or discussion topic for all members and virtually any visitor to see which was the only way possible to communicate with another member before. That appeared to be a MAJOR drawback and hindrance for those trying to perhaps seek or give guidance, or share an experience with someone on the forum they've grown to trust.
  • Guests cannot Private Message (PM) other guests or registered members.
  • You can opt to simply ignore any Private Messages you receive and of course are completely free to never send a private message.
  • Existing (prior to site upgrade) members DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT have to input their real email addresses. This was stated clearly on our Forum Update post. Here's a snippet of that message: The previous forum software did not require an email address. The new software does and will not work without one. Due to this, we have created fictitious email addresses for each existing member account. This means that you can still login with your existing username and password and will not be required to input your real email address. Please review the "Previous Member Accounts" information detailed here.

3. As a Guest you were able to post by simply inputting a username (we removed the email requirement), however without any email/login required that meant a user could EASILY impersonate someone else which is certainly not an ideal scenario. So, therefore we've removed the ability for "Guests" to create topics or replies.

4. Going forward new members will be required to provide an email simply because we require that they click a confirmation link to establish their accounts. We cannot begin to express how critical this is in reducing spam, reducing harrassment of members, allowing members to have control over their accounts. There are nearly no web services that do not require an email confirmation and for good reason.

? Questions for Members of this Community ?:

  1. What features, if any, do you feel still threaten the control of your anonimity?
  2. What if anything confuses you about the new forum or complicates your usage of the discussion boards?
  3. As this community grows we will need to rely on forum moderators. They will be tasked with ensuring there is no harrassment or other innappropriate activity occuring within the discussion board. How do you feel we should choose moderators? Should longstanding members with good history be elected, should we have licensed professional counselors handle this responsibility or? Should moderators be paid?
  4. Please let us know how else we may improve this resource for you.

Your feedback is GREATLY APPRECIATED and is vital to making this the best environment it can be for supporting one another.

- AAC Support Team

P.S. We ask for your patience during this transition process. We assure you that we are listening and documenting fixes, changes, and improvements based on your comments. We also ask that much in the same way it's generally understood that sensitivity to others is paramount in cultivating a safe and productive environment on this discussion board, it be understood that harsh and unnecessarily critical posts regarding changes are not conducive to positively effecting the changes you may wish to see. To put it as simply as possible, please exercise restraint in jumping to conclusions or accusations; instead please discuss your concerns and help create ideas to overcome them. Thank you!

Strong. U clik on " view user profile" ICON( the little caricature of a person) in the upper left hand corner of their post box or find the persons nic at the bottom of the page if they are online and clik on their nic. If u add peopel to your buddy list u can go to your profile and they will be in your PM feature box. So basically there are about 3 methods.

It will take u to the persons profile scroll down to the boxes on the bottom. You'll find the pm box there, second from left.Smile

When navigating around the site, I often get the following message:

"The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem."

Also, the top half of all pages consist of a repeating string of text:

Warning: Unknown: Unable to allocate memory for pool. in Unknown on line 0
Warning: require(): Unable to allocate memory for pool. in
/home/allaboutcounseling.com/public_html/index.php on line 17

/home/allaboutcounseling.com/public_html/wp-load.php on line 30

Just some more glitches to work out.

Otherwise, I like what you've done with the place! Wink

Greetings Admin~

I am fairly new- been here since September 2010- I wanted to address some Concerns which before the Change was not handled in manner to quell the Chaos... I imagine You as a whole will bring forth Order & Open Communication also Calm. I observed from the Outside & stepped in when felt Appropriate when I witnessed Harassment & Defamation of Character by Person(s) in a Religious nature that goes against the tenets of my Beliefs. There is Proof of pattern of Behavior of said Individuals. I addressed the Action- Behavior & its Inappropriateness for it Offended me Greatly.
Felt my approach was also done with common Courtesy. I noticed in Introduction below- Admin would ensure re:

innappropriate activity occuring within the discussion board. How do you
feel we should choose moderators? Should longstanding members with good
history be elected, should we have licensed professional counselors
handle this responsibility or? Should moderators be paid?

  1. Please let us know how else we may improve this resource for you.

From what I have read in Threads & could see visibly- there have been disturbing Accusations of Persons creating extra Accounts to use in a harmful manner (which I wouldn't know but read the finger pointing) to the point it appears Paranoia set in amongst Some of the Members. Hearsay doesn't move me to jump on the bandwagon...I investigate & want Proof of such... I'm new- Not Somebody else in disguise & You are more than Welcome to valid with my ISP Number~ It *seems* because I Questioned a Member about Action- tried to be Humble & Respectful...but didn't *react*... I was compared to Another Member who may handle Disagreement in a similar fashion... We are Two entirely different Persons & the Name calling along with finger pointing... I imagine would deter New Members from wanting to join. There will always be Persons who stir Trouble...There will always be Persons who will try & break the rules-guidelines... I certainly Understand there is only so much You could regulate.
I am not One to just run with tail between my legs. I wish to find Resolution. What can be done about this Nonsense? Is there a Complaint Box in Personal Message where I can provide the tangible Proof You would need? I am still learning how to maneuver through the Threads- Screen etc. but hopefully will get it eventually.
There are Many who I imagine Appreciate You as whole trying to clean house so to speak & bring a fresh face to gain some peaceful Interaction.
I Respect that... also would Greatly Appreciate some feedback on how to handle this wave of Discord- Mob Mentality out to Lynch because I & some Others wouldn't tolerate Abuse. I don't want to contribute nor would contribute & contaminate clean waters but would like to breathe fresh air & not smoke filled Negativity in within the Support & Liberation Threads.

Thank You for Your time~ Please consider my request....Blessings~

I just tried to start a new thread about the glitchiness of the site, which can't possibly be from too much traffic.  The new thread didn';t show up.
