How could a site with the goals of helping people do this to us? ? ? This SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!!!!!!!!

It was fine the way it was. Why change it? To further stress and distress people who are already hurting? Really? Are you on some power trip to further push us into the blackness of our already black lives? THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!!!!!!!!!!

I also REALLY question the safety/Anonymity of this new format. Why do we have to give our email everytime we post???

CM I'm sorry you feel this way but I have to disagree.  Part of growing is change, learning how to cope with it, be a part of it, incorporate it, accept it.  Change is not a personal attack.  i think the site is going to actually be safer and more comfortable to be in.  I hope you'll be a part of it.

I have to admit it...this olde lady found the new format VERY confusing and intimidating.

Hi Ma! and Everyone!

Good to see you!!!

I found it really daunting too.

Anyone know what all those other categories are about?  Marriage/Grief, etc?  I mean it seems like

everyone is gathering in General Support.

I think it is good.

It is a little confusing at first just cause I'm so used to the old way... but this way I can see who is online and, I don't know, I guess I just like that I can actually see that there is someone there.

Seeing who is online part of the problem that compromises the safety of this site. The fact that you have to enter your email all the time also compromises that safety. One thing that was very nice about this site was its ANONYMITY. I don't feel like that is still a part of this place at all.

Its not being opposed to change. I don't mind that. It is being opposed to the WAY they changed it. It is HORRIBLE.

This site WAS comforting and welcoming and something unique that had its own special layout different from other forums. NOW its just like everyother site.

Its like they have killed the mom and pop shop that gave you great service and put up a big ole WalMart in its place with all its cold business and bottom lines.

Also very troubling is that they display who the top posters are. WTF?????? How does this add to the security of the site????

I feel naked and compromised even posting here as a guest. I'm leaving and am so sad to loose all of you. I loved it here, but I guess it has lived its life and is now dying. I need to accept that and just move on.

CM, I don't have to enter my email every time. That's something that the admin can probably adjust. They have an alternate email for me that I noticed when I went to my profile.

Ok, that "quote" didn't come out right. I'm still learning that part. But you know what? That's OK! CM, I posted to you on another thread, but I'll repeat some of what I said; I know it's scary, but this site needed a face lift. We're all still the same people who still need support. (((CM)))

I agree with you CM. The other format was so much easier to use and made more sense. Now, I am having difficult finding familiar threads. ... Is it necessary to look into different categories to view these threads? Who decides which topic the thread should fall under?  ... I just don't see what was so wrong with the old way. One of the reasons that I stayed on the original forum was because it was so user friendly.  I just think it made no sense to change something that worked so well for so many people.  ... CM. I wanted to add that it is not necessary to put your email address everytime you log on. I just use my user name/password and that is it. ... I do hope that the powers that be read these complaints, but I doubt very much that they are going to change it back. They obviously put a lot of thought into this new format, but they did not bother to ask any of us how we felt about it. I am really agitated about that. Frown  The only advantage that I see is that there is now a spell check.

I like the new format. But I also think that some of you are unclear on the changes.

The old software was EXTREMELY vulnerable to being hacked. Things like your IP address and other things could have been easily gathered and used to reverse engineer a way to identify you because the software was years old. This is much safer. You're still permitted to make up a name and your email address can simply be an anonymous one you make up at Gmail. I'm surprised so many people are not used to this already; this should be a good exercise in getting with the times and protecting yourself more online.

You really only need do two things to make this user experience much greater.

1. Register an email you use for all the things online you wish to be anonymous from. Free emails are easy to find (gmail.com, yahoo.com, etc). This is a BEST PRACTICE for internet use to begin with.

2. Add this email to your existing profile or create a new one and once you login you will NO LONGER have to input a username and email everytime you post. The only reason it asks you to do so now is because you're not logged in.

If you had read the message the administrator posted you should have understood a few things:

  1. All the old discussions had to be put in a these general support categories. The new ones should be put into a category that actually fits their topic. This will prove very, very useful for people in the future. Try thinking about others who come to this site having no specific category to go through when they are seeking help.... instead they must sift through 30,000 threads to find help? That's being a little self-centered if you're only concern is that you have a little difficulity finding things.
  2. Consider that millions of people use modern forum software on a daily basis and as they've learned the features they extract the benefits of communication these features add. Should this site for some odd reason live in 2001? Why not empower us to have every available way to connect with those who we can identify with, learn from, and help?

I hope everyone can give the site owners time to collect feedback, work out bugs/kinks that are intrinsic to any major site overhaul or upgrade, and try to adapt to positive change.

Really? How so? I don't see how anything changed except a graphic design facelift, a new software with 20X more features (please consider that millions of people happily and successfully use this forum software and do so effectively, enjoying the features it provides). Why be so afraid of change? I don't understand where words like "HORRIBLE" come into play here. I'm quite suprised at the dramaticism I'm witnessing and truthfully it's a little concerning that my feelings are shared amongst those so quick to raise pitch forks.

Seriously "cold business and bottom lines"?!?! Wow.

JS01, you talk like you must be one of the designers of this new design or maybe a friend of theirs.

So glad you are so smug about all your techie bullshit. If the "support team" really cared about supporting us, they would have asked for our thoughts on the subject. They obviously don't give a hoot about anyone here or they wouldn't have done this to us.

This is NOT a matter of superficial looks of a website. Its a matter of providing access to personal information and having a stable experience that we have come to love and trust. If the technology is that great, why not just upgrade the internal protections and leave off all the crap where you share facebook etc.

You must be someone who is very cold and calculating in their life to lable the hurt and extreme feelings this has brought on for so many of us as "dramaticism"

I am expressing how I feel, this had severely impacted my life. FUCK YOU if you think its drama. I have feelings and am very HURT by the way they took away our website behind our back with no warning.

They have created just another forum that is now like every other forum on the web. The ACC I knew and loved IS DEAD.

CM, I'm GENUINELY sad that you're in this kind of pain over this.  I don't want to sound like I'm discounting you, patronizing you, talking down to you...etc...but I am just not seeing the risk here.  You (I'm assuming) used a different name on AAC than on other sites.  If no one in your f2f life knows that nic, they will not have any way of linking your posts on the other site to you.  Your location has ALWAYS been logged ANYTIME you've accessed the Internet for ANY purpose.  It's the nature of the beast.  It's like tracing a call.  This is how child porn viewers are aprehended, for instance.

The profile editing tools enable you to block your online visibility, just like the invisible function in any IM program.  You don't have to put a real email and you don't have to enter anything for Facebook or anything else.  I am PRETTY sure u can block PM but not 100% sure 'cause I haven't tested it.

I honestly feel safer here than in the older one.  The older one was sort of wild westy in my opinion.

I hope that I didn't say anything that could be construed as insulting your intelligence - AND I hope you stay.  I am planning on participating more here, and you are someone I wish I would have reached out to here but never had, as we share some similarities.

I want to say something else but I'm not sure I should...for now, just hope you give it a chance.

I can only second this.  I don't know what else to add!

You can remain anomymous if you want, not so if you want!

The ACC you knew is dead or the AAC you knew is dead?  Which is it?  The only one I ever saw refer to AAC as ACC before this overhaul was Chelonia, much loved, much respected, much admired, and rightly so.    so where are you coming up with ACC and what does ACC stand for?   I wondered the first time I saw it.  Wonder it now.

CM, in reality, it wasn't "your" website, nor was it any other poster's.  It belonged to somebody else.  YOu, me, every poster, we're guests.  That means we're not entitled to the knowing of the business aspects of it all, or any thing else for that matter.  This sense of entitlement is misplaced.

Your feelings matter CM, you're hurt, you're angry, got it, feel it.  and THAT sucks.  CM, to move on, grieve the past, let it go, be a part of the change.  I miss the old site too.  I miss the screen picture of the green and goldish pathway through the trees that's kindas faded.  For whatever reason, that was so comforting to me, welcoming, and the reason I originally thumbed through the site.  I miss it.  It's like a part of me, or something, died, it's kinda weird.  I keep wanting to hit all the same old buttons and land in the same place and can't.

Like crystal said, give it a chance.  My guess is that it's not gonna go back to the way it was so give it a chance.

Hope to talk to you in the future.
