WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware's biggest city on Wednesday became the latest municipality in the nation to sue the gun industry to recover the costs of dealing with urban shootings.

All. If there is a spate of killings with hammers or axes, do we start sueing hardware industry?

It seems that we are trying to close the gate after the horse has bolted and then suing the gate manufacturer because we failed to close the gate properly.

Should we not also sue the universities for failing to educate the masses on effective parenting techniques; also the parents of the murderers; parents of the 2 million people serving sentences in American jails who contribute to the violence? Should we not ultimately sue God for the flawed human design?

We humans are hellbent on self-centred acquisition of material comforts. We have lost our way. We are destroying the planet. Like a wounded dog, in our demise, we are biting at our own leg. It is just that we are using guns, amongst other things, to do it.

The gun problem is symptomatic; it is not the disease. We need to treat the disease not the symptoms. The symptoms will dissappear when the disease does. The disease is contracted at birth and develops from there in the complex parent-child interactions. Let's as a community deal with that and we just might be able to break the vicious cycle that repeats generation after generation. Or, politicians, is that for the 'too hard basket' again?

PS I do not nor ever intend to own a gun.

I have to agree Tez. Guns don't kill people...people kill people. However I do believe that it shoud be a universal law to allow children access to guns. There have been far too many accidents with kids geting a hold of Dad's gun then it went off. Meaning guns in the home should always be locked up. Now I feel just the opposite about the right to conceal. Whether the law is in affect or not, a muderer WILL be concealing his weapon. Should all the law abiding citizens be left vulnerable? I work in a mall, so security is always waiting in the parking lot waiting to make sure we getto our cars okay AND we use the buddy system. If not, I would probably carry mase, and I always have my keys ready in my hands before I step out of the building. A friend of mine worked downtown St Louis and parked in the company parking garage. She carried mase even with company security. Now I know someone who works midnights in the ER of a hospital located in a very bad area. If she steps outside, any perpatrator could be waiting...gang shooter looking for revenge, rapists, pimps, etc. She would feel more comfortable carrying a gun. The right to conceal is prohibited in our state. Mind you, I would never feel comfortable carrying a gun, but I would never feel comfortable being in such dangerous areas...I don't even like the idea of going to St. Louis without another adult with me...even in the middle of the day to a crowded place or event. My father had guns all my life and longer. He has an 8 foot tall gun cabinet where they are still locked.

J.C. I agree that if guns are around kids, they should be confined to a locked cabinet; the guns not the kids ... I think but I'm not sure which. 🙂
