Oops
- Hit enter to soon, lol. I have been reading on this side for a
while now. I realized very early on that it was not a place where I
would feel comfortable posting because my skin isn't thick enough.
I believe I have said that before.
What I wanted to
post here is just my thought about a current theme that I see
running through the threads on this side and where I feel the
confusion starts.
As a Christian I
have a belief system that leads me to suggest certain things to a
person that is hurting. For example, "So, sorry to hear about the
loss of your husband, I will keep you in my prayers." When I first
began posting on the support side I saw things stating you were not
to discuss God or religion there. You are instructed to come to the
"Lib" side to discuss those issues.
So, the first time
I came to this side I thought I was going to find something similar
to the "Support" threads, only with the addition of being able to
discuss my faith. Than as I started to read I became aware that was
really not the case. I quickly saw that if I voiced a comment
referring to God or regilious ideas I was going to be called
unintelligent, weak-minded etc.
I will say that I
do believe in God and his son Jesus Christ, but I also believe it
is not my place to beat anyone over the head to convince them to
come around to my way of thinking. However, if another Christian
starts a thread here looking for support I'm not sure I understand
why those of you who do not believe in God feel the needs to
comment. Why don't you just skip those threads. Why do you feel you
have to convince the Christian why they are wrong for their
beliefs. Seem like a bit of a double standard to me.
I say the same to
the Christian posters. If you see a thread that is discussing
something you disagree with, why do you comment, just move
on.
Trust me there are
times that I read things that stir up anger in my heart and I feel
like responding, but I know that solves nothing. I can do more for
you by praying for you than debating you over my views.
You can discuss
all day long who threw the first stone, but at the end of the day
the fact remains that we all have different belief systems. Heck
withint he Christian faith they can't all agree on what they
believe. So, my suggestion is that you comment on threads to have
an interest in, where you feel you can offer positive
information.
The reason this
world is such an awesome place is because we are all individuals,
no two people exactly alike, with the same thoughts, feelings and
emotions. Why waste time debating an issue where it is obvious
either side is not going to budge. Christians here are not going to
convince the atheists and agnostics to convert and the atheists and
agnostics are not going to convince the Christians to turn their
back on their faith.
So, to close, I
simply say that I think when we are on the support side we are
given the feeling that the Lib side is where we should go to
discuss religious things. It is not that we are seeking out a
Christian site so-to-speak. We simply want to offer support to
someone utilizing things we hold true regarding our Faith. I wish
you all well and hope you see my intention here was not to name
call or bash anyone for their beliefs. I simply wanted to state my
observations. Hope that everyone has a peaceful and blessed
day.

hi
Curious, well, I think the problem is, this site is not really a
good atmosphere for spirited passionate debate about non-personal
issues because, its simply not built for that.
Its made for
people to come to discuss extremely personal internal issues. For
that to happen, they take off their guards and so its a friendly
accepting place in that regard. There's lots of support. So for
someone to then come across another section of the site (this Libs
side) where people have strong opinions and arent talking about
personal issues, its very different. In my own case I can separate
the two and deal with them individually, I hope others can
too.
But also this
country is currently going through the typical secular/religious
debate and rivalry where people who have been marginalized and
shunned before (seculars, non-religious people) are now standing up
for their own rights to say what they want to say.
But the first
thing I said is true. You can go to other forums on the internet
and you'll find people saying a lot of things and its normal over
there but here people get offended easily because once again, the
atmosphere of the site is support and counseling and not 'spirited
debate'.
So I think if
anyone (including me) wants to do that, they should find other
avenues for that and then for support they can use this site or
some other like that. Plus like any website, the population that
visits it regularly is usually pretty small, but some are big and
some arent.
Every time I say
something here I feel I'm walking on eggshells. Its a
hypersensitive atmosphere and again maybe its because its a
support/counseling site. Ok done.

Amen
In a way, the
'non-religious' folks here ARE supporting. Supporting an effort to
expose the evils & falsities of the bible. Hopefully free the
indoctrinated thumpers from their fear(s) of a vindictive God.
;>D
Like andii said -
there are both good & bad. If people get comfort from their
belief then fine for them. Just stop trying to cram it down the
throats of everyone else.

Ah,
how cute - she wants to fight! lol
"Just stop trying

That goes BOTH
ways CC."
Whatever.
Standing up
to/rejecting the judgemental nature of fundamentalists isn't akin
to them cramming their dogma down others throats. There's a
difference. I think it's important to make that
distinction.

Guest
- Thank you for a very thoughtful response. I think you hit on
something there.
CC - Thanks for
proving my point. Just couldn't resist could you?
I am not a
"thumper", but I am a Christian and I do not live in fear of a
vindictive God. Nor do I feel the need to argue my position on my
Faith. I wish you well.
My flesh wants to
lash back, but my spirit tells me it is pointless. So, I will bid
you goodnight.

I
give anyone the right to cram their beliefs down my throat, as long
as they give me the right to say what I wanna say. Its cool. I said
lets have a free for all, free speech, say what you wanna say! Free
flow of anything is good, otherwise its gonna be like conspitation
and thats always bad. Fiber One! Keep the free exchange of ideas
and thoughts.
I made some Fiber
One cupcakes by the way this weekend, real cool. They should make
more food stuff.

Well, that isn't
how it typically plays out & there's the crux of it all. They
don't extend the same right(s) to you. Their version of free
speech: Say what you want, so long as it's congruent with their
belief.

For
the record, the intention of this thread was not to cram anything
down anyone's throat. However, the progression of this thread and
eventual hijacking just proves what many have said here to be
correct. Those crying about, "cramming" and "intolerance" are
usually the ones guilty of the cramming and are the most
intolerant.
At this point I am
signing off on this thread as it has once again become a thread
merely used to voice the agenda of those who so strongly oppose
anyone who speaks of their faith or belief in a higher
power.
I am not angry,
but merely weary of the same old stuff being spewed by the same old
people. It's sad really.
Wishing you ALL a
very happy and blessed day.

(((curious)))
What started as
such a peaceful, well-spoken post - has again, taken its usual
negative turn. Thank you for your post and its original intent -
and for the patience you continue to display. There will always be
spoilers - there's unfortunately one (or several) in every crowd.
It really is sad.

Religon and beliefs should be your own. I was raised in a
Christian faith but am a self proclaimed agnostic. However I still
feel my Christain friends, my Buddist friend, and my atheist friend
all have their right to their specific belief. I think we can agree
to disagree and voice our own inner voice
But in the end we
each have our right to our view and respectfully I say we extend
that right to our fellow friends here... We can all have our
opinion but I take it as exactly that ... your opinion and mine is
mine... Good night
