I have always been taught that he had long blondish hair, a beard, etc. but how did somone white show up in that area of the world? Wouldn't he have been very different looking than all of the dark skinned folks that lived there?

Was there sunblock avialable to keep him from burning in the hot sun of the desert?

Seriously, I am interested in what folks think of this, just one of the many things that don't make sense to me. I do believe that Jesus was a real person, but don't by the whole Mary was a Virgin thing.

Hi Cary,

I have often wondered the same thing.....why Jesus has always been depicted as a blonde haired, light skinned, caucasian man?

That certainly doesn't look like any of the Jewish people I know.

My guess is that he would look like a dark haired, darker complected, middle eastern man.

And of the record....I don't buy the whole immaculate conception thing either.

I would say "What DOES Jesus look like?" 🙂

I agree,I would think he is olive skinned toned and with brown eyes and dark hair, but I don't know for sure.

But wasn't there a race of Jews that were blonde and blue-eyed at one time during WWII?

we don't know what he looked like. it wasn't important what he looked like. he looked like probably a lot of other Jewish people at that time.

Isaiah the prophet (hundreds of years before Jesus was ever born, and without any knowledge of crucifixion) said this about Him:

"He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. but He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. all of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him."

bereft,

"Crazy", table of 1!! Your table is ready!

What the heck does that even say? Certianly nothing about what Jesus looked (or looks, OMW)like.

It is a fairly simple question, please don't MUCK it up with some preachy answer. You may as well be describing the GREAT PUMPKIN, or the TOOTH FAIRY with that kind of BS.

I am serious about this.

Thank you for acknowledging "present tense" for me! 🙂

guest_guest:

Man to Jesus: "Hey, whatsup?"

Jesus: "Nothing, just hanging out"

Man to Jesus: "Mind if I hang out with you?"

I'm going to put this on the Gays and going to heaven thread, see ya overthere.........

caraway,

Most people who believe that Jesus was who he said he was, believe that Mary conceived him through the Holy Spirit. I know how difficult this is to understand though, I don't think it has ever happened before nor after Mary. I always wondered about the trouble others must have caused for her, she was young and unmarried at the time...not an easy road for a young Jewish girl of that time and culture to be pregnant and unmarried.

This was not the first recorded birth of this type. Other religions used it first. The only reason Dec. 25th was chosen is because there were other religious celebration at that time and the Christians wanted not to be noticed. It's well recorded history.

Apparently Dec 25th is not the real birthdate of Jesus, isn't it marked sometime in July?

What were the other recorded births from the Holy Spirit, I never knew about those.

Om, I mean Jesus was saying he was hanging out, while literally hanging out from the cross.

Caraway,

I love this question.

What did Jesus look like. Makes ya wonder huh ?

The Bible never gives any physical description of Christ. The closest thing we get to a description is in Isaiah 53:2, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” All this tells us is that Jesus’ appearance was just like any other man's – He was ordinary-looking. Isaiah was here prophesying that the coming suffering Servant would arise in lowly conditions and wear none of the usual emblems of royalty, making His true identity visible only to the discerning eye of faith. This what bereft was refering to.

Isaiah further describes the appearance of Christ as He would appear as He was being scourged prior to His crucifixion. “His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness” (Isaiah 52:14). These words describe the inhuman cruelty He suffered to the point that He no longer looked like a human being (Matthew 26:67; 27:30; John 19:3). His appearance was so awful that people looked at Him in astonishment.

Most of the images we have of Jesus today are probably not accurate. Jesus was a Jew, so He likely had dark skin, dark eyes, and dark hair. This is a far cry from the blond-haired, blue-eyed, fair-skinned Jesus in many modern pictures. One thing is clear: if it were important for us to know what He really did look like, Matthew, Peter and John, who spent three years with Him, would certainly be able to give us an accurate description, as would His own brothers, James and Jude. Yet, these New Testament writers offer no details about His physical attributes.
So, from a bibical view, his looks weren't that important.

Besides, if there was sunblock available, ... then you get me thinking what SPF would he be using.. 15, 30 45 ?

Thanks for the smile today.

on my way,

This wasn't to offend. Re-read my post. It was an explaintion to what Jesus's looked like., Where is there any humor in context to my comments regarding his and where was no humor mentioned when I spoke of how he was
scourged prior to His crucifixion.

The humor on the end, was for caraway, reguarding, his sunblock comment. It was not intended, to upset anyone.

Terriberry,

Sorry, I should have addressed my comment to guest for whom it was intended. I can see how that would be confusing.

guest_guest, it's ok, I love ya anyway, but I am sensitive to jokes about the big guy that I love. 🙂 so I may just comment once in awhile if anyone ever makes fun of Him.

I have a picture of Jesus as a Black man with a geri curl that I absolutely love. Bought it on the street for $3. I figure if He's a likely to be Black as He is to be Blonde :). Anyway, he probably looks more like Sadam, Osama, etc. Basically, most of the people we call terrorists. How is that for irony:)
