Woah you guys are funn-nay. I used to write down everything I ate a la Bridgette Jones' Diary, and then it became this bizarre strem of consciousness thing....

"Ate cup of yogurt for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch (sans mayo!), and bowl of minestrone soup for dinner. Then broke down and gobbled 14 totinos pizza rolls. Oh God, am horribly tubby and will die of coronary heart disease. Only 6 pizza rolls left, must eat as will start fresh tomorrow"

That kind of thing....hee hee.

I got the flue for 5 horrible days and didn't eat anything but ensure and I lost like 10 lbs. I am like 125 now, the lowest weight I have been since I broke up with my exHUSBAND 2 years ago!!!! Wow.

My friend Brian said, what now you have an eating disorder, too? Jerk.

Hello everyone. Great thread! I'm struggling with my weight. Last year I lost 50+ pounds. Well, after I got serious with my boyfriend I started to slack. I've now gained 12 pounds and went up almost a size. Although I refuse to buy new clothes, I just squeeze into the ones I have to let myself know where I've gained.

When I was dedicated I was eating healthy most of the time. I was easier on myself on the weekends, but I worked out. I jogged, power walked, and lifted weights (free weights). I was toned and really began to like my body. Now I'm flabby (jiggly 🙂 ) and generally unhappy with myself. But my problem is that I can't get motivated and get back into the swing of things. Anybody else have that problem? Exercise is so hard to get back into for me right now. I'd been really depressed for several months, but am better right now, but still can't do right.

Yesterday went as follows:

breakfats/ok: oatmeal w/nuts, coffee

lunch/not so good: small pc of chicken, mac & cheese, spinich, cookie, water

1st dinner/good: baked chicken/greenbeans, water
****eaten after power walking/jogging***

2nd dinner/disaster (mcdonalds): crispy chicken sandwich (scraped mayo off), 1/2 order fries, water

I just can't seem to get with it!

Okay. I started to exercise. I'm just doing a little something for about 20 minutes every day. My boss sent me an article about people with fibro and chronic fatigue that said this was the best way for those of us with these illnesses to exercise.

I can't believe I'm doing this...

Way to go Ren'ai! I believe exercise and weight loss can change so much. My doc thought I had fibro. I would get these knots all over my back, under back of arms & sides. My daughter would massage them really hard and pinch them, holding & squeezing the knots which hurt soooooo bad and good at the same time. They would finally release and feel good. I've even given myself bruises accidentally a few times squeezing them. But after I lost 50+ lbs and really exercised I haven't had the problem AT ALL! I really believe a lot of it has to do with stress! Just my 2 cents. Good luck! Good for you!

Ren'ai:

I didn't realize or I missed that you have fibro. Should I say welcome to the family? I'm sorry you have it. I, Bel, AW, OB, (hope I got that right and if I forgot someone I apologize) we all have the fibro. So sorry hun. Just wanted you to know you have support here if you want or need to talk. 🙂 (you taught me the smiley, thanks)

Ok, well I'm not really dieting because I've tried every diet in this world but I'm trying a different approach. When I first separated from my husband I dropped 30 pounds in two months without excersising. How? I was really depressed and every time I sat down to eat I would pick at it and not eat much. I was eating whatever I wanted though. So what I decided to do is not put too much emphasis on what I'm eating but putting more thought into how much I'm eating, eating only when I'm hungry and stopping when I'm satisfied. I'm also eating good food instead of those they call empty calories like the sweets and chips. This morning I had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a hard roll but only ate half. Don't know how many calories that has really so if anyone knows please let me know but I was satisfied with just the half. We'll see what happens for lunch!

shy shy,

you are looking at about 350 calories for the half.(makes you glad you only ate half!) There are some great websites out there for calorie counters which I would post for you all but that would be against the rules!! Anywho I am trying to get my self motivated to get back on the excersize that I have been slacking off on but I am very busy and my free time is being eaten up (excuse the pun!) by a dress I am making for my daughter and a new game I am addicted to on the computer. Oh dear I realy want to break the 200 mark only 4 lbs left. Can I do It????

Yeah, I am glad I only ate half but 350 isn't too bad and I ate what I wanted. Thanks for the info lost. For lunch I had to roasted drumsticks a 1/4 cup of rice a quarter cup of peas and about two table spoons of stuffing. Hope that wasn't too bad.

The same thing happened to me when my wife split. I lost 50 pounds in about a month. I was working too, staying on the store floor for 8 to 10 hours. I guess I did nothing but drink coffee and water or something. Was not hungry, did not want to eat. Wasn't sleeping either. I seem to have gone for days with little or no sleep. I would try and then wake up an hour later.

I would not recommend THAT diet to anyone.

I am now kinda stabilizing around 165 to 170. Which, as far as I am concerned, is just fine for my height and age (5'9' and 46) I am now eating regular, though I did binge on pastries and goodies in the last week. At one point, I seemed to have gained 5 pounds over night. So now I am really thinking about eating right and exercising. Both for my health and I guess for my looks.

Hi Gully. I'm pretty much in the same boat. I had gone back to eating regular again too except I wasn't eating all the junk food I was eating back then and I have managed to keep the weight off for two years but recently I gained about 6 pounds or so back and don't know how exactly.

The guy that I'm dating is thin and has been all his life so I've been trying to follow his example and bought a couple of books on how thin people think/eat. What I've read so far is that thin people tend to pay more attention to what their body is asking for. they eat when they are hungry and stop when they are satisfied because they don't like that "full" feeling. They also pay attention to what they are eating. They look at it, smell it and enjoy every bite of it and if it doesn't look or smell right, they won't eat it. Eating is like a ritual to them. If it's not something they actually like then it's not worth their time. they eat for pleasure and if you think about it, feeling stuffed is not pleasureable.

I would normally tend to think that being thin is mostly due to genetics but my boyfriend's brothers are all heavy. Why? I think because they look at food differently. They come home from work and sit down to a huge plate of food and then lay down in front of the tv stuffed. they eat on the run and whatever's available because they are hungry. My boyfriend on the other hand will come home from work and start doing stuff around the house. That's what he finds pleasure in. When he's done with what he's doing or bored with it he will then sit down and take the time to enjoy a good meal. Half the time he'd rather just grab a juice and go to bed because he's too tired. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that he eats for pleausure and if he's finding pleasure in something else at the time then eating takes the back burner. Not healthy, I know, but neither is overeating if you think about it.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

That sounds about right. Eat what your body needs. Just enough protein, plenty of veggies, fresh and cooked as little as possible, and make sure it is tasty and presented well. That's one thing I have noticed on the cooking shows. The presentation of the food on the plate. They make it look pretty.

I don't like fatty foods. I don't like what it does to me. It is kind of gross, but I can smell it coming out of the pores. I can tell when my boys have a heavy fat meal at school. It can smell it. Yuch. Same thing with me. When I was running all the time, when I was younger, my body was so tuned that if I had just a little too much fat, I would wake in the morning with my tongue coated. Yech, yuch, yeck!

But fat is what make it tasty, you know. That's why I like to use butter instead of margarine, whole milk instead of the lesser percents, stuff like that.

But we can't always do that. So I just try to eat moderate. I have found that, depending on what I am doing and eating, I can gain and lose 5 to 10 pounds in a day or so. I remember ready once that that is not unusual. You are burning what you eat. And don't deny yourself too much. I love sweets, so i try to have some once a day. But i don't like candy that much, which is a good thing.

I just think that you really should consider what you eat. Less Protein, unless you are have to build or work muscle, lots of veggies, don't salt you food unless it needs it (I am not anti-salt, I salt for taste), Don't deny yourself the good stuff, listen to your body's (not your mind's) cravings and jto lose weight, use more calories than you take in.

A garden with all those greens and herbs and tomatoes is nice, if you can have one.

Gully

No!!!

I haven't been dieting, per se, but I did start exercising for 15-20 min. daily and that has made me feel so much better. Also, even though I haven't been dieting, I went to the doctor last week and found I'd lost 6 pounds in the last month!

I'm about to start mountain biking with a close friend. I'm scared to death, but I know it will be fun for me if I can just relax and get into it.

So, don't feel deserted. I'm still hanging in there with you!

Love,

Ren'ai

I am on day 2 of trying to count points (weight-watchers) and watch what I am eating. I also walked for the first time tonight in a long time. It was only 30 minutes but that was good for me. I keep saying that I am going to try to lose weight, but this is the first time in a LONG time that I have actually had some success. I know 2 days doesn't sound like much, but it is when usually you have good intentions and then by noon or when you get home from work you just don't care and snack on whatever sounds good.
