orange,

You are not offending anyone here! It is most helpful to hear more opinions and stories of struggle. Yes you are correct we do NEED calories. The trouble is which calories and how many. Did you know that for every 100 calories you burn only about 20 are from fat I mean think about that, only 20! So if you eat say a cookie and it's 50 calories but 40 are from fat you have to burn 200 regular calories to get rid of the fat from one lousy little cookie!! (that is like 30 minutes of walking at 3.5miles an hour!!!) Also we tend to greatly over indulge in the amount of calories we consume in a day. Take me for example I'm 5'9" and curently weigh in at 205lbs .(gosh that still is ugly even after loosing 15! lol)
To MAINTAIN my weight I should consume no more than 1784.3 calories per day. WHich when you start looking at things is NOT hard to do.However to loose weight (1lb per week) i should consume no more than 1284.3calories. Just stop one day and look at the nutrition label on some of the things you eat regularly.
(peanut butter has 200cals per 2 tbs and 140 are from fat!!)We who are over weight and struggling need strongly to PAY attention (we also need to get off our ass and workout a few times a week) All I am saying is if you watch it you are less likely to eat the things that are high in calories. You can have like 3 apples for the same as 1serving of peanut butter!! AND I am sure the apple will stay with you a LOT longer!

So now that I am done rambling on welcome to our little diet chat and please continue to post input!!

thanks, Lost

Just read this thread. Gazelle, that sounded really really yummy!

Okay, I will let you know mine for Mar 4., since I jsut started on today.

Here goes.

20 to 25 cups of coffee (probably more) with appoximately 2 tablespoons of sugar each and either creamer or milk in most.

1/4 bag of tortilla chips and 1/2 cup of salsa

two sodas - 180 cals each ( i left a can on the desk last night

1 peanut butter and strawberry preserve on white bread sandwich

1 and 1/2 glasses of milk with choco milk mix.

Oh yeah, I had a small bag of trail mix at work. maybe one half to one oz or maybe a little more.

By the way, I am not trying to be funny or anything. That is how I eat.

The trail mix was because I felt my blood sugar had dropped tremendously and I needed something.

I eat one med. sized meal when i get home, usually. Last night, I decided against the meal and went for the chip and salsa and soda while I watched a movie.

I try not to eat too much meat and fat. Don't use salt except on some veggies. I know I should eat more, at least Bfast. I would usually have one packet of instant oatmeal before leaving for work. I know it is not that healthy, but it is healthier than nothing. I just stopped eating bfast due to my schedule. Should start again.

For most people, eating healthy and exercising will maintain their weight. To lose weight, burn more calories than you take in. Stay away from diets. The truth is, your diet is how you should eat ALL your life. I will choose healthy over sugary processed foods all the time. But time gets in the way.

I love pasta with just olive oil or butter. That's right. Butter. Real butter. Why? cause I like it. In the summer, lots of salads and fresh stuff. But I like cookies and sweets a whole lot! So I don't buy them except maybe every two or three weeks. Whole grains are good. It's funny, but all the healthy stuff just tastes better than store bought processed foods. But we can't always do that.

Eat like an asian. Lots of greens, lots of vegetables, lots of plant stuff. Little meats. But all in moderation.

Have you ever had rose petals in your salad? or nasturniums? How about young fresh Dandelion leaves as a salad? That's right. All those folks are killing a wonderful green in their lawn when they could be eating it.

French provicial cooking is good too. THough often too fatty for my tastes.

Just my two cents.

Startin the day right. Had my o.j. with my scoop of nutritional supplement. Fresh coffee with the French coffee press. Oops! Did put a splash of half and Half in it, going for my third cup, (not mug), so smoothe tasting.

for lunch:

Left over chix (thigh) with greens (hey it's southern here, thought it was gonna be spinach; called: collars thingys?). One small biscuit with one pat butter.

I no longer have my nutritonal books for counting calories and fat grams.

OJ and coffee. Yech! that's like drinking milk or coffee after brushing your teeth. Doesn't work. Not for me anyway.

Ohhh, a french press! A girl after my own heart! Do you grind your own beans? Someday, I might even roast my own coffee beans. Gotta have some addictions, right?

Forgot to add Dannon's Natural Vanilla yogurt.

Thinking seriously of going back to my lacto-vegetarian days; healthier and easier for weight control.

Of course, Gully,

and makes great coffee for company;):)

hey what about if we post how much exercise we got too? i need to start getting more of that and it seems like keeping track of it will draw my attention to it, kinda like the eating thing. so today i had two eggs and hash browns for breakfast, two cups of english breakfast tea with dulce de leche creamer, about 1/3 lb of smoked salmon with garlic, 2 10oz glasses of soy milk with carnation instant breakfast (i finally found it!) 10 oz of orange juice, then i went out for jamaican food---shared a plate of curried chicken with a side of rice and peas and a side order of veggie pockets with chutney, and a strawberry banana oatmeal maple syrup smoothie. plus a multivitamin and a mineral supplement. then i rode my bike for about half an hour, but i'm going to ride it more in a little while and do my stomach exercises. 25 regular sit-ups, 25 "oblique crunches" (i love saying that) on each side, and 25 leg crunches. i've been doing them every day for the last two weeks, 'cept yesterday i was too tired after midterms to get back out of bed when i remembered. been doing them at least 3 times a week for 8 weeks, and am finally starting to notice a little bit of a difference. you don't have to worry about countin' my calories, it's really nice just to have an occasion to keep track of this stuff. my doctor's have been after me to do this for years, so now i have a funner way to do it. orange

Ok here I am. I have been feeling kinda sick for the last 2 days so not been posting much. Anyway Orange i think that iis a great idea I will happily join you in posting excersize.

Here is what I do:

45 minutes on the treadmill 5min warmup/cooldown @ 2.0mph then I go up to 4 miles an hour for the largest portion. After that I do 260 crunches 100each upper and lower abbs then 30 each side. i follow that with 3sets of 15 reps of 7 different weight excersizes for upper then lower the next day.

It seems to be working FAST i can see results daily.I have NEVER been able to stay commited to ANY diet and/or excersize program so I am really proud of myself.(not that it's not obvious or anything! lol)

I am gonna get everyones calories done and posted a bit latter today. See ya all then!

They say that the coffee grinders with burrs instead of blades are better. I think I will buy one and see. I think they are more expensive. Burrs grind, blades cut.

I just love french toast! with powered sugar and sometimes syrup on them.

I stopped counting calories years ago. Sorry. The EX/STBX/Roomie and I tried a diet thing once, worked well for a while, then it just fell to the wayside. And this is one of the reasons why. Vanilla creme filled eclairs iced with chocolate. Homemade too. You can't imagine! And they are so easy to make! So rich and yummy that they make your teeth hurt and ayou can only eat one or two. But you see, you have to do that. That's what life is all about. you have to enjoy life. To hell with what the magazines and entertainment tonight says. If I am comfortable with my body, then I am comfortable. If I am not, then I do something about it.

Though I will say that I forgot all of that over the past few years. I am only now rediscovering it.

You exercise because you like the way it makes you feel and you like the way it makes you look. But you don't do it so that others will like the way you look. You do things like taking care of yourself for selfish reasons. Because you want too.

I understand about body image. I have been overweight a couple of times in my life. One time I was okay with it, becuase i saw a good Gully when I looked in the mirror. Another time I hated it becuase it reflected the bad things about Gully. But it didn't have anything to do with my weight or my body. It had to do with Gully on the inside.

I am getting on my soapbox today. Whew! Sorry. i hope that I didn't offend anyone or anything.

Life is Good, guys. Enjoy the eclairs, okay, and if you have to, run an extra mile or something. Don't deny yourself the good things in life just so you can look like some celebrity.

If you buy a coffee grinder with the burrs, let me know how you like it. I might follow your lead on that.

Sounds like a plan. However, there are sooo many things that I want/need to buy, I don't know how soon I will get to it.

Speaking of which, I meant to go shopping an hour ago.

Hope everyone has a beautiful day!

lostinthismess, holy toledo! i can't believe you do so much exercise!!! i thought i was doing well with 100 sit-ups a day! sheesh. do you think you can explain how to do upper and lower crunches on here? i don't know too many exercises, just some that i learned from a book i found in a freebox. i'm feeling some difference, but when i try and show it off to my friends they poke my poochy little belly and crack-up. it's in good fun though. i mean i don't get discouraged or angry with it. but still, two months and still no abs of steel. not only that, but still love handles a plenty. sheesh. perhaps i will finally go swimming today as i always intend to. as soon as i finish my homework, and that's my cue. i'll check back later. orange.

aw, eating is important! it's what you eat that makes a difference. like i think you can eat as many greens and veggies as you want and that's a really good thing! sometimes eating less can make you gain weight i heard, 'cos it throws your body into starvation mode where it thinks it's in a crisis so then when you eat a regular meal your body's like, "hey alright there's food! let's eat it while it's here!" and then it can start a whole cycle of binging and purging which piles on the pounds. it's also good to stop eating when you're full though, so if that's what you meant, i digress. i just hope you're taking care of yourself! especially with how much you've been doing...

here's my day:
3.6.05
two eggs and hashbrowns, 2 cups carnation instant breakfast with soy milk, a luna bar, a big salad with avocado, tomato, kidney beans olives and tuna with mayo, 3 cookies carrot juice and orange juice and one pear. One mulitvitamin, one fibromyalgin, 2 lamictals. Swam 20 laps, did 45 upright crunches, lifted a lot of weights, about 150 reps altogether…about to do my nightly hundred situps. and eat something else, i've gotta headache.

ok Addict you raelly need to eat more than once a day!! It is just as bad to eat once a day as it is too overeat. If you really want to jump start yourself here then you need to eat 6 small meals a day. try this: Morning have a cup of coffee with fat free creamer 2tbs =50cals
mid-morning snack have a 100 calorie pack of grahm crackers = 100cals (duh!) lunch have a lean cusine frozen meal under 300cals or a lean pocket afternoon snack 1 piece of fruit like an apple or an orange or 1cup of raspberries for about 70cals then for dinner have 4oz tuna steak on the grill and asparrowgus (i can't spell) that would keep you full and i bet you you'll see some change!!

I have no idea why i go through these "dumb phases" (??!??)
I'll start out with my "noshing" schedule and see what happens, this once a day shit is dumb, I know this, and it's like ya' gain 5 pounds if you eat a carrot....
Thanks for the rational replies everyone!!!!

well, i went ot "super stop n shop" and bought granny smith apples, nectarines, strawberries, celery, and carrot sticks, a box of Specila K low carb , adn a box of low fat granola, and low fat, low carb yogurt.
Then i can pick on healthy yum-yums all day, instead of just 3 pots of coffee, and a dinner.

I also got a case of fancy feast (on sale0 for the horny kittie, But i wont eat any of that.
I splurged and got him a kitty condo thing thats leopard print too, its cute, but i betcha he wont even use the damn thing... anyway... feeling good about reclaiming the heatlthy foods today. so now ill try some sit ups and crunhes , providing i dont aggrivate my "frozen shoulder" and bad joints, I'll do hat i can,its better than nothing, right???

OMG! I gained 4 or 5 pounds over the weekend! It must have been that orgy of ice cream sundaes and shakes and the shrimp and everything! Well, 12 hours standing in front of a stupid machine ought to take care of that. I hope anyway.

Got to go to work. Hope everyone has a good day!

Awww gully..
I've gained weight just looking at some foods 🙁

i am doing okay so far today..
had a bowl Of berry Special K, that i measured out the correct serving size with, and I feel ok, had about a pot of coffee too, but Will keep up with my mission of sticking to a plan.

If I feel like I need a snack, I have apples, carrots and celery, and some smoked gouda cheese, Or theres always anothe bowl of cereal to eat.

feeling good about it so far, and My blood Sugars have been decent all day with the exception of waking up real early in a cold swaet from low BG level, but I ate yogurt with a cut up nectarine, andgrapes in it... NO Chocolate, or poptarts today!!!!!
(so far)
I hope i can stay on track for a while. Ive done it before, So i know it can be done.
One of my frends told me a coupe years ago that "you're the only person I know that actually loses weight, andsticks t oyour exercise /eating Plans once you get sterted."
Of course that was BEFORE all these health issues/pain, but I know she is right, and I will remember those words when I feel like eating Crappy food, andsleeping.
I felt the couch calling me earlier, So I made myself do 30 situps instead.
