Lost:

I'll need nylon straps to keep me on the wagon, can't take the prickling of the rope. Have sensitive skin.

15 lbs. WAY TO GO

As for hubby, tell him to shove off. He's gonna be real sorry when you get all the weight off you wanted to. Aren't men such babies.

Sometimes it seems like the more I think or try to lose weight I end up eating more.

Try not to focus so much on "Dieting". Think of it more as a lifestyle improvement. Once you get going you will feel so much better about everthing and it really helps to keep down your stress level when you are NOT eating for comfort. I offer this challenge to you all : for 1 day write down (BE HONEST) everything you eat. post it on here with amounts and all. I will tally up your calories for you and then you can decide for yourself if you really thought you ate THAT much in a day. I bet you will ALL be amazed. I know I was!! And here I am 15lbs lighter in 4 weeks and 4 inches smaller around the waist!! YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH RESULTS!!! Good Luck!!!

The whole purpose of this IS to see that you do eat too much. Just put in one honest normal day.

Gazelle,
I am gonna start working on the count for you right away but from my last 4 wks experience...I have to say BRACE YOURSELF!! lol

2 thick slices of brownbread toast with marmelade (no fat). 69cals

Big bag of unsalted cashew nuts. 1cup=786 cals

Half a bag of salted cashews. 1cup=786cals

1 huge orange. 1large(3-1/16"dia) = 86cals

2 small tomatoes. =26 cals each

half a standard baguette (plain, no fat or filling). =263cals

Half bottle of red wine. = 74cals per glass

medium plate of veggie stew w 5 or 6 veg, chickpeas & cheese in it. 148cals for the soup (1cup) chickpeas 286cals per cup cheese 93cals per ounce

small rhubarb crumble (v sugary - help! Prob fatty too.) 278cals for 1 cup of rhubarb Sugar 774 calories per cup

5 or 6 coffees (no sugar, skimmed milk.) 1cup of skim milk = 86 cals

Ok the grand total I got when I add up the amounts I have listed (minus the 1cup of sugar) is 3351cals !!!

Ok now sit down take a deep breath, and think about what the moods were you had while you ate those things and what your activity level is. If you would like you can post your weight in lbs. and your height and I will calculate your cals needed to loose 1-2 lbs a week. Don't be upset about this just use it as a learning experience and let's all get more motivated!!

It is so amazing how proud you will feel when someone starts looking at you saying "Gosh ,have you lost weight!" Let's do it girls I don't want to be the only one with a success story to share!!

Thank you so much for that analysis, Lost.
Help! I knew I had overeaten yesterday, but had no idea how horribly! That amount of calories during an inactive day at home is gross!

Yet some days I eat very little or nothing. I suppose it evens itself out over a few days' cycle.

What you asked about moods determining eating behaviour is SO true! I had been ill & vomiting all the previous day and night before that - and so was making up for lost food & fluids, I suppose.

You have been most helpful in making me focus on my mood-swings /food-swings!

After much thought, I've decided not to post my height & weight on here, since that wouldn't help others. (They are ok though.)

Many thanks for your help.
Self-control is the key. And listening to my body. I must try to keep to a more balanced intake and not fluctuate so wildly between gorging & fasting.

And I must give up my main protein (cashews) and must realise that plain French bread is ENORMOUSLY more calorific than brown - way more than I thought.

Cheers for your help! Who's next?

Yesterday I ate about 2 cups of homemade beef stew, mostly veggies and 2 corn bread muffins. That's it, all day.

Today I've eaten 2 strawberry poptarts and an orange. I'll probably have dinner tonight. Have no idea what, though.

And here I am, 240 lbs. I'm not kidding! I really don't eat that much so I know my metabolism is totally fucked because I never exercise. I'll get around to it, though, someday...

Love,

Ren'ai

One bagel smoothered with creme cheese and one large coffee with creme. Things getting better here, now I can get going off my bread diet and get real food. Maybe then I can tone up with my yoga class, if I get the motivation to go.

ren,
2 cups of homemade beef stew, mostly veggies and 2 corn bread muffins. That's it, all day. 1cup=222cals 1 muffin =345cals

Today I've eaten 2 strawberry poptarts and an orange. I'll probably have dinner tonight. Have no idea what, though. 1 poptart=203cals 1 orange=86cals

bel,

ok here it is:

1 tbs cream = 40 cals

1 bagel=364 cals

1 tbs cream cheese= 51 cals

1 serving (aprox4) ritz cracker=79 cals

1 lb meatloaf (*sure you didn't eat that much of it though) = 742cals

1 med potatoe = 145cals

salad is 0 but the dressing is another story!!

1 12oz coke = 145cals

cereal(need to know what kind)

1choc chip cookie = 68cals

Sometimes even when we THINK we are making good choicesw like a bagel for example, we really aren't. A serving of something is a whole lot smaller than you think.

TRY THIS: for 1 week only eat foods you can measue calories and servings of. There are some great frozen meals out there as well as snacks. You can also get a small scale that will weight out ounces and such for about $5 at your local Target store.

Let's go girls pay attention I WANT TO SEE YOU WIN YOUR BATTLE!!!

aren't calories good though? don't we need a certain amount of calories to make it through the day depending on how much exercise and movement we get and what our metabolism is and all that? just curious. my mom started me out on diets when i was 6 years old. i wasn't super fat, just chubby as a kid should be. anyhow i went on diets off and on until i was about 21 or 22 and stopped. for a long while i was anorexic-figured if i only ate half a bagel and an apple that was enough for a whole day and then i'd exercise a ton. then i battled bulimia for awhile, took laxatives and made myself puke to lose weight. so messed up. i took a class last semester on dieting and eating disorders and learned a lot of disturbing and enlightening things. like the fact that the dieting industry is a 50 billion dollar a year industry!!!! i don't know. i don't mean to get on a soapbox, especially not since i'm the only guy in here. i know i definitely don't face anywhere near as many body messages as women do and i think that sucks. not that i think that guys should be bombarded with more of 'em, i just think that in general perhaps the goal could be to focus on eating feeling and being healthy rather than being able to emulate commercials. i feel so disturbed and disgusted by how scrawny people are these days, and at the same time, oddly envious. it's so messed up! and then here i am doing over a hundred sit-ups a night, watching how much sugar i eat, but then when my girl talks about dieting every single day i tell her that she's absolutely perfect and doesn't need to diet. just to drink more water and eat more often and more food but less junk. i lost a lot of chub when i was not eating refined sugar. i replaced it with pure maple syrup or honey or fruit sweeteners, ate fruit instead of cookies or candy whenever that was what i wanted, then i tried to eat vegetables instead of real bready things whenever i got the chance. lost a lot of chub, and felt a lot better. then i got depressed and busy and now i'm still battling it. i'm also hypoglycemic and so sometimes if a sugary thing is the only think i can eat to prevent passing out i'll eat it...i really hope i don't offend any of you, please tell me if i do 🙂 orange
