Hi. I had to order a pipe corral for my pony. Cant believe how expensive they are. Just trying to find ways to keep her cool this hot, dry summer. How many ponies do you have? How much time do you get to spend with them? Are you riding horses now.

The dog and pony are the only things that keep my sanity. My dog is getting better. I put up a large cage in the back of my truck in case I want to take her somewhere.

Talking about my pets makes me happy.

Destiny,

You have completely blown my "mental" imagine of you with this thread.... horses, dogs, and a pickup truck? I had it all wrong!

You mentioned your dog is getting better; has he been ill?

I have nine mini's that I use in my org... then I have four show horses,
(warm bloods/jumpers, and 4 other horses that are retired now.... so all together I have 17 horses.

Have you checked into temp stalls, like what some people get for horse shows for your pony, sometimes you can find a good deals on them, used ones that is.... or you can go with a wood fence in area, and then just buy a canapy top to put over half of it so your pony can have some shade and stay dry when it rains... which is really the cheapest way to go if your on a budget.

My life is really all around the horses in everyway pretty much.. my work with my org., as you know.. then with the show horses, and just within the last month I've added another part to my org., because of the economy... I've started a equine food bank for people that have lost their jobs that have horses, and they can't afford to feed them anymore... or board them because all the rescues/shelters are too full now to take anymore horses in, and all of us here have noticed more and more starving horses because of people losing their jobs, and so on, so I came up with this equine food bank to help out those that can't feed their own horses anymore... as temp help for them until they can find a job or a way to feed them again.. which will help owners to keep their horses as well.

Because we have the 3rd largest horse industry here in the world, it was fairly easy to add to my org., as there are many horse people here willing to donate monthy, and help these people and horses out.

I can understand how your pony and dog help keep your sanity... there have been many studies conducted that have proved that animal assisted therapy helps and enhances a person's health mentally and physically. My org., was part of one study with the mini's in hospital's and hospice... and in short without all the medical explainations, the conclussion was that they do enhance the healing process, both emotionally and physically.

I really wish my neighbor would find a home for his pit because I feel sorry for the dog being on his property, he doesn't live there so the dog gets no attention and he is really getting thin too. I've tried explaining to him why the dog escapes and comes over to our home but he just doesn't listen.. the dog simply just wants attention, and wants to be around people. I think it's great that you took in the your pit, she sounds like she needs some TLC from womeone that cares about her, and it's obvious that you do care about her.

Caraway- Hi. Just curiouse what is your mental image of me? My dog is like mentally ill (LOL). I found her through an advertisement. I mean there was this year old pit standing up in a cage in a living room next to a pole used for pole dancers and the sign said "My name is Sadie I am a 1 year old female Pit If you love me I will love you!". I was outraged seeing this size of a dog living in a cage. So I immediatly called the number and went to the home and well, the rest is history. Like any couple me and Sadie are working it out. She has her own room in my house with her own bed. She sleeps with me at night.

I love my truck. Use it for camping, hauling hay, and now for the dog.

Pony is part of the family. She will be rejoining us soon.

Some people buy houses with a yard for the kids to play in I bought one with acerage for the dog and horse to play in. Plenty of room here.

Do you have pets?

Healing and Peace- Dogs and horses have been part of my life my whole life. They bring me such joy. I love to sit with my pony for hours. Cant get enough of that. I cant belive your operation. Its huge. And to think they are all yours as opposed to boarders. I know it keeps you busy. I can barely keep up with pony. But I enjoy taking care of her. She is a buckskin paint.

Now this is cute. My friend has a hairless rat that sleeps in the bed with her and her husband.

Are you riding now? I probably asked you before but forgot. Sounds like you are an advanced rider. I only ride for fun.

Happy trails and wagging tails.

Destiny,

I still ride but not do not compete anymore. I did for years on a international level but after the serious accident years ago.... I couldn't for a long time while in and out of the hospital... then once I was well enough again I didn't want to take the risk of reinjuring or causing further problems. So my competing days are over, but yes I still ride.

I still have the show horses because one of my daughter's now rides professionally and on a international level. My father is also in the equine business, so horses have been part of my life as far back as I can remember.... I can remember clearly when I was around 4 years old, just watching his horses, and thinking I couldn't wait until I could ride the jumpers, so it's been part of my life for so long now. I couldn't even imagine my life without horses.

I basically took advantage of my equine experience, and combined it with my love for children, and medical experience, and combined the two to create my equine org., which grew into a successful charitable organiztion. So to add anything at all to it when a need comes along isn't too difficult.

It's great that you have the pony, I really don't think it matters how much experience a person has, what kind of horses, as long as you enjoy what you do, and it's fun for you, then it's all good...a can be very therapeutic at the same time.

Too funny about the hairless rat, they probably look at it just like we do our animals. 🙂

I am heading out of town for a few days but will talk to you again when I get back.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!!

Destiny,

I imagined Beyonce with shorter hair and more like "Christy Love" form the 70's!!(The truck and camping all caught me by surprise.) I imagined high heels, etc.

Best dogs come from rescue; good thing you saw her that day. I do have a dog, a Pug, and how weird is this; her name is Sadie! I named her after a favorite relative.

Caraway- I think our dogs are both Jewish American Princesses.

A Pug.. how adorable.

I am petite. Medium length, hair that was meant to be blonde. I dont do heels, nails. My favorite clothes are my Baby fat justin roper cowboy boots. I love camo pants with lots of pockets. I love camping, fishing, home remodeling. Getting ready to do a lot of painting right now. I usually wear hiking boots or gangsta style sneakers and clothing. Dont do the mall thing. Love home Depot. Always building or working on something. Not a girly girl. Male dominated personality.

Destiny,

Reminder for me to not make assumptions about folks.... I had this entirely different person in my head. Sounds like you are pretty independent and confident. I like it!

Oh yes, Sadie is a JAP. Loves to be close to me all of the time.

Caraway- I went to a pet fair. One of the folks that had a booth had a pug all curled up in its doggie bed and stuffed animals that looked like pugs on display. I thought about you. If you were my friend I would have gotten you one of those stuffed animals.

My Sadie has to get her nails done.

My Sadie is also a people person. She has to be almost on top of people, licking, jumping, wanting to play.

I took her out in my truck on our bumpy dirt road and she freak out. Tried to jump out of the truck. But by the end of the day I think she got used to it.

Isn't it funny how we can and sometimes do try to picture what a person is like by what they post... The funny thing is this (((Destiny)))
I pictured you pretty much exactly as you discribed yourself to be... and now (((Cary Lil Bro))) may I share what I picture you may look like and act... To me you are a free spirited, and super kind man... sweet to the core, meaning you would hold the door for anyone, you say thank you, and please all the time, and in my mind I picture you to be around 5'11", fair build, with blonde hair... Why a blonde I have no idea just how our minds picture people I guess from what you have only posted... I picture you wearing the nice jeans, with polo type shirts... again don't know why only based on what you have posted.

I had the best five days out of town, we really needed a short vacation... My husband and I desided to go across the ocean from one island to another on our jet ski's and we saw more sea creatures then I've ever seen before.. It was so beautiful! We had a great time, but I want to share one that thing that happened... while we were heading to one of the islands, I was driving because it is easier for me to drive then to ride on the back as the passanger..and other family members were on our other ski's, so anyway midway between the islands where we could hardly see land on either side of us, I saw this huge shark so I slowed down and told my husband to look at the shark just ahead of us.. he stood up so he could see it... well because it was like 2 foot waves and somewhat choppy he fell off... My heart stopped for a moment and in almost like a panic mode, I shut the jet ski off at first.. then I thought for a second and realized I had to go back and get him... he was laughing so hard he could hardly get back on... but he did of course! I couldn't believe it, of all places to fall off, right where the shark was.. thankfully I didn't see the shark while he was trying to get back on... I guess it made the trip something to remember that's for sure besides the otherwise great time we had watching the purposes follow right along side of us in the wake from the jet ski's and everything else.

Those dophin are so amazing and such beautiful animals.... I'm always amazed when I see them in the ocean, I think they are one of the most beautiful animals there are... I could sit and watch them pretty much all day. So that was the relaxing and therapeutic part of our vaction.. just watching them play in the ocean and coves.

I feel so refreshed now to be back home, and I'm ready to get back to work again.

H&P and Destiny,

You are partly correct.... I am polite to a fault; My Grandfather, and namesake, expected me to be a gentleman. I am 6ft. tall, 202lbs., balding (hair was brown), green eyes, goatee. The jeans are right, but usually western, or levis, when casual. A suit and tie most days to work in CORP. AMERICA. Played all types of sports and rode motorcycles growing up.

And you? Sounds like you had a nice weekend!

Healing & Carry- Hi. I just broke the heel off of one of my stilletos trying to ride my pony. LOL. Cary you are at a respectable height. I pictured you shorter. But you do have a lovely way about you.

My pit Bull is settling down right nicely. I will turn her into a lady yet.

My pony is supposed to come soon. The sooner the better.

Healing any suggestions how to make a cheap shelter for a 12X12 pipe corral? Hay will be hard to keep cause the winds blow like up to 60 mph and the rats and birds mess it up. Probly will have to go with pellets. The feed store sold my english saddle. I only use western now.

When I was in San Diego at the Bay I saw these I guess they were manatees or something. They swim around the boats and eat the bait off of the fishermans hooks. I like to give them fish. Wouldnt want to be in a kayak when one of those things swim by. When I fished on the bay I caught sea bass. But only late at night. They seem to want to come when the park is closed for 2 hours every night.

Hope pony doesnt freak out from this wind. I feel sorry for her being in all this damn heat.

Destiny,

I would think about checking at home depot for a canopy of some sort for some shelter over the corral... or if you can maybe build one yourself... you can use the fiberglass panels used for windows during the huricanes they come in like 8ft. and 12ft about 4 feet wide so if you just got two of them that would be alright and enough.. You would have to build a frame with some wood post high enough for her then ancher the panels down with screws to the frame... That seems like it might be a cheaper way of providing shelter and it seems that the wind wouldn't pick it up and carry it away like maybe a canapy.

Cary, I think I was pretty close in what I pictured you to be like, and look like.. except for the blonde hair.... LOL I'm 5'7, blue eyes, brown hair, 127 lbs... I would certainly prefer to wear jeans "levi's" with white tanks or t-shirts if I could all the time, but like you I have to dress for my work too.... but even then I wear nice jeans and tops.. you can always dress them up with boots, high heals, and little bit of gold or silver... I love all sports pretty much, my thing of course is equestrian sports, jumpers mostly, and water sports too!

I'm kind of quiet unless I need to speak up, and most people are a little shocked when I do a presentation or do a press release because they kind of think I'm shy at first but I'm not... lol.

Destiny see if you can find a hay net, or a hay rack to hang on the side of the corral, she will need the hay along with some pellets... you can get a rubber container to keep it in..... or even go with the hay cubes if you can't keep the hay.

Healing- Thanks for your advise. Of course I am always bargain shopping when it comes to the price of feed.

I have felt so lost without my pony. I used to sit out under a shade tree and spend hours with her. Now I have no shade tree.

I guess I will have to let her settle in and get used to her new home. My neighbors have horses and get pissed when she gets loose and runs up to their horses.

I have a hard time finding a saddle that fits her. The one I have slips and goes under her sometimes. Its a lightweight part cordura part leather type. I forgot the brand. Cant find a breast plate that fits her either. Everything is made for horses.

How is the weather out there in florida? I did not renew my nursing license there this month. I guess I am stuck where I am. I sure did love the weather there. When I went riding along the canals I would hear splashing I wondered if it was from alligators.

Destiny,

Where you were out there I'm sure it probably was the gators... LOL... We need rain so badly.... It has been so nice out but without the rain we are seeing more and more fires now.

They said the index is up in the 700 now, which is pretty much desert like dryness.... I suppose you can always renew the license here if you ever feel the need to.. but I wouldn't either if I was living somewhere else.

Have you checked online for the horse tack catalogs... I can't remember the names of them but I know Stateline which is part of pet smart has a line of tack.. you might want to check with them to see if they have any pony size tack. I can imagine how much you miss the pony, just watching them can be so fun... Hope she is home soon, what's up with the neighbors they don't like any visiting horses... LOL she probably just wants to go say hi... oh well maybe now that you have the corral she won't get out.

Healing- Hi. State line has been around for a long time and has good prices on tack. Its probably the shipping and handling that will cost $$.

You mean it doesnt rain, pour, lightening and thunder all spring and summer long in FL? Desert Dryness? I cant believe it. There was a problem with fires when I was there.

Destiny - yeah normally it rains a lot with the thunder storms starting in the spring, but we have only had a few days of rain since winter...not hardly enought to bring up the water tables though, it's dry all over the state. Alligator Ally has been closed off and on for over a week now because of fires, and we get the ash all the way up here from the everglades fires. There's also been lot's of random fires starting in Lox, and around in Palm Beach County.... kind of crazy for it to be so dry this time of the year.

Isn't that always the case the shipping and Handling get you even when you find good prices. Do you have a stateline near you, maybe if you find something they can order it for you and then they can pay for the S&H.

Healing- It is easy for one to miss out on my crazy life. Cause for a while I was living la vida loca.

In August of '08 I moved to San Diego for a month. I worked down there. I took my ponies to my friends house who lived out there. Then In September of '08 I moved back to my home. Near the end of september '08 my husband was arrested for the 3rd time in less than 2 years and given an 11 months sentance in state prison for violating his probation (drinking alcohol). So at the end of sept '08 I moved back down to San Diego and had my pony brought to the horse ranch that I lived on. Then in March of '09 I moved back to my home leaving pony at my friends house once again. Today I got a 12X12 pipe corral right next to my deck outside my front door and will have her back any day. At first I was going to let the Bank take back my home. But, they modified my loan agreement and I figured it is too difficult to be a renter when I own a pony and have kids. So, here we are once again. I have been in this town for over 10 years. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

So, how many days did it rain in florida this year? I always thought of it as being a tropical rain forest. Gee I gues the earth is drying up.

Destiny...:), :), :),

Now I understand, I think I missed some of that... I think it's great that you were able to move back to your home....at least the bank helped you out somewhat, and now you can bring your pony back home. By the way what is your pony's name?

I'm telling you it seems like since the first of the year we have only had about maybe 8 days of rain.. it's been such strange weather we actually had a cold front three weeks ago and it got down into the 40's... Lake Okeechobee is so low that they don't know what they are going to do now... but yet at the end of the year they let some of the water out.. thinking it was getting too high... go figure. Everyone here at the time was saying why would they do that when every year for the past few years they complain and freak out about it getting too low.

I miss the rain these days, I actually enjoy those late afternoon storms.. maybe soon they will return, I hope! Everything is looking pretty dry, and brown. We really need the rain!

I think the alligators are coming out of the waters actually looking of more water. So they need the rain too!

Healing- Ponys name is Susie. She came with that name. I think of my animals as people and they get to keep their name when they live with me. I put her pipe corral right next to my deck and we are making a shade cloth from the top of the deck over the corral and tying it to the otherside with Oh I forgot what u call em. So she will have a shader that breathes and I can keep an eye on her.

Florida without rain I cant imagine. My pit bull is shedding I have to bath her to try and get rid of the hair.

Poor alligators.
