Anyway. I'm a liberal-conservative (25% liberal, 75%
conservative) and I watch the news a lot. Right now I'm convinced
the world is going to end in about 50 years. We're running out of
rare earth metals which are used in regular aluminum production.
The icecaps are melting. We spilled a ton of oil into the Gulf and
we're running out of it. We have 6 billion people on Earth and we
need to realize we can't save everyone (don't flame me. Please.
I'll just ignore it). Our forests are disappearing as corporations
put their grubby hands into valuable land that they cut down for
businesses that either don't fill in or go out of business in
several years.

I don't like where
America is going anymore. I wish America would keep her nose where
it belongs and pay attention to the home front; we have an
environmental crisis, an economic crisis and still our companies
choose to spend their money in other nations than on us. I don't
have anything against other nations; what I have against is
charities organizations putting other nations before us. When is
the American homeland less important?

On top of that is
the threat to the Internet. First DMCA, then talk of Net
Neutrality, and now for act SR-something or other "Combat Piracy".
BS. Based on what I've read about that act, it involves blacklists
on the Internet for file-sharing places, and telling big companies
like Google to use those blacklists to a T. The blacklisted party
will have no say-so, according to the fear-mongers, and I believe
it because of the excessively aggressive behavior of the RIAA and
MPAA. They'll do anything to force us to buy their wares without
even researching us, the pirates, their potential customers who've
turned away because they're too litigation-happy, too greedy to
look at the other side. They'd rather force us to watch crappy
mandatory ads in front of a DVD than to look at WHY we pirate and
to work on a compromise to give the customers what we want. I can't
feel sorry at all for the corporations for losing money to piracy;
they dug themselves a hole which will only get deeper as long they
ignore their potential customers like this.

Overall I wish
we'd start paying attention to repairing the mess we've made. The
economy can't expand forever, but capitalism's what's ruining the
environment. The Internets not going to be so free in the next 3
years, I guesstimate.

Years ago I took
an art history class where the teacher asked a very important
question which has stuck in my mind ever since: What will we leave
for the future?

What legacies are
we leaving for our future children today?

A destroyed
environment? An Earth devoid of resources? An irreparable economy?
A censored Internet?

What? What?
What?

Is this what we
really want for the future?...

Gah. End rant.
Feel free to send me some virtual Ben and Jerry's for a virtual
pity party for the Earth

you
say your 75% conservative but you have an anti-capitalism view? i
am personally 100% liberal, borderline socialist ( and i am a small
business owner, talk about a paradox lol) i work in construction,
and there are only two ways to maximize profits, cut expenses, or
raise the bill. and very few customers are fans of the latter, so
we cut expenses any way possible, and the most effective way is by
hiring illegal immigrants, which i call the new age indentured
servant. people constantly complain that they take away american
jobs, but the blame goe all the way around, a business cannot
thrive without customers, and customers cannot buy ridiculously
priced goods. if i tell you on option is to pay $50,000 for a
driveway with union payed and permit approved work, or $25,000 for
using illegal immigrants with no beefits, and no permit, but you
essentially get the same thing, people always go for the latter,
dont even bother arguing otherwise because this is my living and i
speak from experiance. slavery never went away it just
evovled.

in my
honest opinion a for-profit econonmy run by private citizens is its
own destrutcion, we need regualtions that are enforced. the fact of
the matter is we live in a country where law abiding business are
penalized for just that. people who go under or around the law make
much more profit, in every industry. however, i strongly support
the first ammenment, censoring the internet, which i agree will
most likely happen, is just ridiculous. i am liberal from an
economic point of view only, i strongly disagree with governement
invovlement in personal affairs, such as marriage, speech, and
whatnot. although if you think about it, only conservatives
recently are the ones for more government invovlement in those
areas, wanting to keep gays from marrying and abortion illigal,
regardless of your opinion on the matter i think you can agree that
everyone has the right to make the decision for themself, and not
have big gov. telling us. i just want my big gov. telling me that
companies are not allowed to outsource jobs, the bill may rise a
little bit, but so will the income of the general
populace.

for his sources, that a rcent discovery showed that the myan
calnder was actually mistranslated, there is nosupposed end of the
world 2012, i dont remember where, but google it, i neevr bothered
because i just dont worry about things like that, i mean cmon, im
suicidal, if the world ends in 2012, that just saves me the
trouble. ( please everyone know that i am joking, i dont know if
you feel the same way, but when you have held a gun to your own
head as many times as i have, you tend to find a sense of humor and
laugh at yourself)

I am
sorry Z...i did not mean to bring any bad feelings up for you, I
have felt that way a few times in my life and looking back now,
thank goodness I never did it, but as you know when your depressed,
you just do not see any hope, at all. i do think it will happen
soon, I am not religous but I have read the bible and i see alot of
things that were written are happening now, i think that it was
probably written by the very people who plan on destroying the
world...people write things and then make them happen kinda of
deal, I used to think it was god who made these happens till i
educated myself on a few things, now i see its planned and from
what I read, it gonna happen soon.

however that is not necessarily a bad thing, cause now i try to
appreciate life and the people in it, we have a very short time to
enjoy our loved ones and our freedom, so i am going to make the
best of things and the life i have, cause its only for a time,a
short time i believe.

that, i mean cmon, im suicidal, if the world ends in 2012, that
just saves me the trouble."

lol.

LMAO
FINALLY A PERSON WHO KNOWS NIETZCHE! thank you thank you thank you
bevdee. lmao and that is something nietzche would have
wrote.

and BFG dont worry
you didnt make me feel bad, its impossible for you to make me feel
bad. as nietzche once said : i am a mirror, i feel nothing anymore,
everything i am is a reflection of you. my world revovles around
the people i love, the only way anyone can hurt me is by hurting
themselves. i paraphrased of course. lol

but yeah, im not
here to change anyones personal beliefs, but im atheist, i dont
blame god for anything, i dont believe in him, i blame everything
on the people who caused them to happen. but i do agree with what
you say about apreciating life, for me life is going to end soon,or
aleast i entertain myself with the idea that it will, so i
apreciate every moment. i smile alot, i love watching the sunset at
the beach. i love looking at the night sky, fate may suck but the
world and the people in it are beautiful. i love to smile and
remember happy memories.

when you believe
that your life is coming to a close, everything is much more
simpler, everything is much more enjoyable. i am greedy though. i
say to myself, "i just want one more hug from my friend, then i can
go" but that last hug is never enough, it always makes me stay
longer, to get one more hug πŸ™‚

Yeah
whoda thunk it, the Barbiedoll lady...

He's no reader's
digest, that's for sure. He's kind of hard to read, partly because
of the formality of his 19th century writing, and the translation.
But that's kinda cool, cause you have to slow down and read slowly,
sometimes more than once.

oh
absolutely i have read almost everything he has written, im halfway
through zarathustra right now actually, and its by far my favorite,
i actually have a flair for the dramatics like he does, his
ubermensh which i know translates to superhuman, but walter kaufman
called it the overman, i like the word overman better, i like to
say "i am the bridge for the over man, for he shall walk over men
like me" yeah, i am obssesed with him, machiavelli and plato were
fun but nietzche is my hero.

good
thing this is anomynous because your probably going to think im
crazy. i first read the birth of tragedy, and it basically
perfectly described my life. how i learned a great truth and was
unable to function anymore. after realizing how pointless decisions
are, you begin to question why bother doing them? at the time i
read it, i was exactly in that state of mind. i learned the wisdom
of silenus, the wise man who once told a king "the best thing a man
can do is never exist, or die quickly". he describes certain
people, he calls them free spirits, or noble men, he basically is
describing a new wave of philosophers which he proclaims will be
the foundation of the over man, the over man which is open for much
interpretation, but he vaguely describes as a person who does not
have other worldy desires, that he knows of the great truth and it
does not affect him, as he writes in zarathustra - he is able to
take in a river of filth and not be affected by it, one must be an
an ocean for such a thing. see, people like me, who dont have
otherworldly desires, can never truly be happy, we can only
survive, we have seen or know too much to ever truly function.we
are litle more than mirrors, our liives rvolve aroud those we
choose, we have no personal desire or goals, it worries us that we
dont, but being aware of the fact doest help us at all. there is no
help for people like us. we did not create fantasy worlds where
everything is justified in order to accept the pain of the world.
we took in that river of filth and WERE changed. but over men, men
who will eliminate mans need for other worldy desires (religion,
morality, a sense of justice) can and will only come into existence
because of men like us, we are the bridge that the over man shall
walk over, to quote him that is. sorry, went on a little bit there,
but this is kind of my passion, the only reason why my existence is
forgivable, because i might possibly help create the overman,
chances are i wont, but i exist, i posses this knowldge, death will
only please me, life may help others.

First
of all, don't apologise for expressing your thoughts.

Do you think that
Nietzsche was influenced by any orthodox religion?

his
father was a priest, he was raised religious, but then again so was
i, i dont think he chose to be an atheist, i dont any athesit
chooses, its not really a choice, its like being told the sky is
purple all your life, one day you look up and see its blue, no
matter how much you want to believe the sky is purple, you just
cant. its like that for me, i just couldnt believe in god, even if i
wanted to. a good metaphor would be plato's allegory for th cave,
much more descriptive in my opinion than mine. influenced BY
religion? his whole work is pretty much about proving how bad and
useless religion is, he respects buddism though, says it several
times, but influenced? no, i would say music influenced him more
than anything, he constantly likes to compare philosophy to music.
look at his friendship to wagner, he loved wagners music and they
were friends, and then stopped because of wagners extreme
anti-semitism and nieztches praise of judaism,

Ok
second of all... Who cares if I think you're crazy - this is a
mental health support forum, for heavens sake. We all crazy, baby,
some of us just get caught.

I think we are
born atheist, then formed into little whatevers... Xtians,
AntiSemites, Racists, Muslims, etc. Unless of course you are raised
by people with no beliefs. We choose to believe teachings, or not.
I just never bought all the stories, myself.

Zarathustra is a
modern name for Zoroaster. In speculating about an Ubermensch, over
man, does he not create another god? If so, and if Nietzsche
subscribed to his theory, then was he truly an atheist?

lol i
was wondering if you were going to catch onto that little
contradiction, yes, if you think about it, the over man is an
"otherworldy" desire, but in my opinion, and this is something
nietzche never says himself, all people, even atheist need some
form of false hope, some form of "comfort food" we secretly know
its not going to happen, we know really its not true, but we like
to believe. the over man is my purple sky, but at least my false
hope/prophet isnt walkin on water, hes walkin over a bridge. the
over man, for me atleast, is a realistic goal for man to aspire to,
religious freedom, not to be free to practice religion, but not
having to have religion in order to maintain balance not only in
the world, but within our own minds. religion is what people use to
control those who otherwise couldnt be controlled, it helps victims
cope with pain, and makes attackers feel guilty. the over man is a
person who is niether victim or attacker, he has no guilt, he
understands what life is and understands nothing can be done, so
worrying is pointlesss, he must live life so he does it the only
way worth living, happily.

oh, btw, i have
been called crazy before, i dont like it, so i am a litle hesitant
to start a conversation where people tend to steer away
from.

and i
gotta give you the point, zarathustra is pretty much a modern day
version of zoroaster, but there is a slight difference, the real
zoroaster preached morality, and that the ultimate virtue is truth,
nieztches zarathustra preached AGAINST morality claiming the ONLY
virtue is truth, nieztchs respected zoroaster for his teachings but
thought they were wrong, just like the buddist, he really was kind
of a prick, he just basically told everyone "your wrong im right,
and your stupid for thinking your right"

Hey
Z,

You said - "the
over man, for me atleast, is a realistic goal for man to aspire to,
religious freedom, not to be free to practice religion, but not
having to have religion in order to maintain balance not only in
the world, but within our own minds."

I'm paraphrasing
you here - realistically, the overman is the freedom of the mind
from religion? To me, the bridge between animal and Ubermensch
sounds like a very nutshell version of creation -evolution -
enlightenment.

Yes, Nietzsche did
say there was no absolute truth, which, IMO, gives rise to another
contradiction, if what you say is true. :~) "nieztchs
respected zoroaster for his teachings but thought they were wrong,
just like the buddist,"

Because under this
non-absolute theory, there is no wrong or right. RIGHT?
lol.

"There are no
eternal facts, as there are no absolute truths." Fredereick
Nietzsche

Did Nietzsche
create the first hall of mirrors with his ponderings?
