Spiritual Meaning of the Scriptures

Hi to all

I have desided to start this thread to see how people see and understand the spiritual meaning of the bible.

I believe that God is spirit, and therefore I serve him in spirit.

I believe that God is no where else to be found than within man because it is written so throughout the scriptures. Read In Luke 17:20-22
Jesus says unto the Pharisee's and Disciples that the kingdom of God is within you..., Romans 14: 17 shows us that the Kingdom of God is peace, happiness and righteousness within the Holy
Ghost, which is to be found in man.

Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is within us, so where would God be? Only in us.

I believe heaven and hell is a state of mind. NOT a place.

Now think about this... Scientists have proven the earth to of existed for millions of years, however the scriptures only dates back +-6000 years...Could it really be that the creation as described in Genesis 1 & 2 could be the creation of this natural earth under your feet and in front of you?

Anybodies thoughts welcome

Hey, Garfield, nice thread and thoughts.

Hey, TT,

I believe God can... not... dwell... God IS. They said he said "I am who I am." I believe we dwell in Him and can only find Him in us or by finding ourselves.

I also believe I have a headache right now...

Garfield, I have heard that Genesis 1 is in contradiction to Genesis 2, like one is more along the lines of the evolution theory, have you heard of that? Also, wasn´t it +-6,000 years ago that monkeys stood on their feet to reach out for food? Ok, what do I believe? I believe there must be a reasonable explanation for all of that. Maybe I´ll just have to see what others believe since I don´t have much ground on this?

sorry about the headache siniho, I guess you can't prove to me that you have a headache. since I can't see it and no scientist has written about it but I believe you anyway.

I asked that question about the Nature of God because I believe that taking scripture out of context can be very confusing and you can get a lot of conflicting information.
for example, when Christ was baptized, he was there, God spoke from heaven and the Holy spirit manifested in the form of a dove. We read that Moses spoke to God face to face. We read that God dwells in us. i like to take my scripture reading in chunks and ponder whole passages.

I agree, Tiger, I believe context is an important tool when interpreting anything.

(((Garfield))) This is a great thread and I hope it gets many contributions even if Im not able to contribute. I´d like to quote God made us in His image but I can´t quote the scriptures. Then I would say and therefore He made us perfect as He is; now that would be my interpretation or rather belief. Please tell me, would that be digressing?

No, I say that God is a Spirit that 'lives' within us. I believe in God TT.

Sininho

Heb 13 : 8

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Yes Sininho that is what the scriptures says. I had to google it because I could not remember the exact words.

"I also believe I have a headache right now... "

You are funny hehee

"Garfield, I have heard that Genesis 1 is in contradiction to Genesis 2, like one is more along the lines of the evolution theory, have you heard of that?"

I don't know of this but here are thousands of different theories on this subject Sininho. If you read Gen 1 and think of it as a natural occurance then it does not match with what scientist says happened. Is this what you mean?

This is just what I am talking about TT. People want to 'see' things with there natural eyes before they believe and unfortunately it does not this way looking at things spiritually.

We have natural eyes and spiritual eyes. If I ask you to close your eyes and talk to you about two people doing the tango - you will be able to see this with your spiritual eye. Just a simple example.

You spoke about Moses and I see Moses as being the scriptures. The letter we read being made alive throught the Spirit of Christ throught us.

2co 3:14
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ.

2co 3:15
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart.

2co 3:16
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.

2co 3:17
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

It could be so that there really was a man called Moses that lived thousands of years ago. I respect what people believe. I just want the scriptures be be alive today and make sense for me today.

And if I may ask what do you mean by saying that you would not be able to contribute? You have been contributing as IS. Thanks for your input Sininho.

Before I answer your question I would have to google the word digressing. Sounds stupid, but I really do not know what this means. I'm a stupid blond. hehe

Sininho

I'm back. Just googled the word

Does it mean going of the point? In that case No. This is Exactly what I am trying to say.

English is my second language and I still battle with some words.

Ge 1:27 So God created man in his own IMAGE, in the IMAGE of God created he him; male and female created he them.

NOW if this was a natural image we would all be blond with blue eyes, or curly hair with brown eyes, or black heir with green eyes.

Get me on this. So the image God is talking about is a spiritual image.

Say all the Christians or atheist or buddhist etc they are all created to the image in which they believe. It has nothing to do with how they look

Thanks for asking, this is getting really intersting.

Garfield,

I believe that we are spirits. I believe that God is spirit, and I serve Him in spirit, through the Holy Spirit, which came after the resurrection of Jesus Christ as fortold in the Gospels, Old Testament, and in the first part of the book of Acts, which is in me as a result of conversion. I believe in the 'filling' of the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus refers to the Kingdom of of God being within us, I believe He is referring to the filling of the Holy Spirit.

I believe that Heaven and Hell exist, as it speaks in Revelation that Jesus and his saints (the angels) will come in the sky, and that God will establish the earth again, here for 1,000 years. Regarding Hell: Revelation refers to the firey pit that satan is to be thrown into...thus a hell. Jesus is very specific...he speaks of the Kingdom of heaven through out the NT, and it is mentioned many times in the OT.

I have heard of the earth being only 6,000 years old. It really doesn't matter to me, as it is not the basis of my faith, so I could care less when it was created. I guess whwat I do wonder at times though is both groups of people are hell bent on proving it or not proving it. Bottom line, regardless of how old it is, people either believe in God or they don't.

Let me ask you this:
I believe we are very close to the end times...without going into detail as it is not safe to go into detail, and it may offend others....but do you think we are?

I meant that thing about a headache as a joke. sort of a make fun of atheist joke. appropriate?????

Garfield,
You said you wanted the scripture to be alive and meaningful to you.
Do you want to know if God communicates with people to day the way he did with Moses, and Peter?

TT,

Ah, the end of times... I choose not to read too much about it as in Revelation, neither to believe it. Im usually very negative but optimist that there would be a turn around - isn´t there any scripture with a clause that says "save such and such happens"?

My grandmother used to say "the end of times is when we don´t have anymore time, and so we already are in the end of times". I tend to side with her.

I do not believe that the Heaven and Hell the scriptures speaks about is a natural place. I will get the verses and post later today as to why I say so.

Acts 17 verse 24

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of HEAVEN and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

Have to leave for work. Regarding the end times. i do not believe this is going to happen.

Speak to all later

Wow, lot's of diversity here, very interesting.

Tiger T I agree with you. I can see it all happening, but most of what I see is confirmed inside my spirit through the Holy Spirit. Do you know what I mean?

I see what you meen omw. I also believe that we should serve God in spirit. I believe we have a body (that will die and decompose and never resurect) and a soul. The soul is either clothed with the "good" or 'bad" for lack of words.

Tiger Trainer

I believe God communicates with us through JC the same way as he did in the scriptures

Sininho

"My grandmother used to say "the end of times is when we don´t have anymore time, and so we already are in the end of times". I tend to side with her. "

This is also how I see it as I explained. It is when we do not have anymore time. What a wise grandmother you had.

Like omw said make the most of the time we have left

While omw spoke about heaven and hell I would like to give my input on this.

The story of the rich man and Lazarus

Lu 16:22
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Lu 16:23
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

My Golly is this not interesting that the rich man in hell could SEE Abraham from afar??? The ones in heaven the other in hell.

Lu 16:24
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

So from Hell the rich man spoke to Abraham.

Lu 16:25
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Lu 16:26
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

So there is a gulf between them. But they can still communicate

Lu 16:27
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

Lu 16:28
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

He want to warn his brothers thats still in flesh. Thats what I can gather here.

Lu 16:29
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

They have Moses - the scriptures as I see it

This is why I say heaven and hell is soo close to each other. The rich also opened his eyes in hell. So his body was not consumed with natural fire.

If a mass murdered dies today and people believe he will go to hell the moment he passes on its definately not a place of fire. Its a state of hell for his soul forever.

What do you think of this. Anybody
