@MSGuided:

You should have looked for something more recent than 2002

@MSGuided: I was wondering WHY you chose France and not any of the others. Now after reading I understand it. THEY choose a method to calc the gender gap that is WAY different than most if not all the others, so their numbers are way different, READ their formulas.

@MSGuided: You were comparing a doctor to a cashier when you posted the wage gap number: They compare everyone , they never break it down in US and Canada Studies to offset , life choices, time away from work.

There is one other aspect to the gender wage gap that those that do compare time in job actually miss. REAL TIME IN JOB. They compare when they started the job and todays date and use that to calc out how many days they have worked, the never remove days away from work , iow, those days that women take off to have a family and raise it. THIS greatly effects the wage gap.

But you didn't post the forbes site origionally.

Thanks for just the info source. ;0)

The forbes site says:
" In 2008, Forbes counted 99 female billionaires, 16 more than last year, but still representing slightly less than 9% of the world's 1,125 billionaires."

It lists 1,125 billionaires compaired to the 497 of the other "bizjournal" site.

The article is inspiring in the light it accents these women. It also says that only 10 of those billionaires are self made.

J.K. Rowling was once struggling on welfare and writing the Harry Potter series lifted her from that.

I'm just glad we live in a changing world where some women can obtain their goals, and be paid for what they do. In every spectrum of work.

I doubt many would want to be Lumberjacks or work on Oil rigs though.HA!

Whatever your friends circumstance I can't help but want to know both sides. That is just the way I am.

I really hope you find the proper outlet, and support for your situation. I believe that if you aire it on the support side, you'll get some there. But you do what you need to do.

..and excuse the formatting in the previous post.It went Kablooee!

Peace!

Wow - hard to believe what triggers this innocent thread has struck.

I tend to agree with CraigCo and with the female lawyer's point of view.

I know of two men personally who got divorced and basically lost everything and had to start from scratch in mid-life.

The courts do seem to be favoring the mother these days.......

I wasn't requesting a definition, I was asking why the individual called what I posted propaganda.

Philips you know what else is sad - the stupid laws we have right now that helped Paul McArtney's wife win millions of dollars by just sitting on her ass and doing nothing.

Penis's with wallets, yea! I hope more and more prenups are filed to prevent these marital robberies from taking place.

@lovinlife:

In certain parts of the world, I would agree, In North America, I would totally disagree, especially since the latest Forbes magazine indicates that by 2010 (next year) women will control over 60% of the wealth in the US and Canada. In England right now, I would disagree as well.

Consider in England for example, a law passed recently specifically says that a man acting in the heat of passion (finding his wife in bed with someone else) can't use "heat of passion" as a defence but a woman who has been abused in the past can plan a murder for months and act on it, can claim a defence of self defence even if she is not in imminent danger but believes she might be in the future.

http://business.timesonline.co.....419708.ece

And make no mistake about it ladies and gentlemen, while the language of the law is gender neutral, if you look at the ministers own words, this is designed for women.

Here is something from the comments that I think echos a huge problem in the law

"As for the gender bias ... surely that depends entirely on the wording of the act. Provided it uses non-gender specific terms - spouse/parter/significant other - then it would apply equally ... which it should anyway in my opinion"

This person actually believes that laws are gender neutral because they say they are. IMHO, any laws which generally effects (either negative or positive) one gender significantly more than the other is NOT gender neutral.

I was reading the other day that in Texas, any child support that is received is used to calculate child support owed. This means in fact, that child support is NOT for the child, but is an income supplement to the receiver.

Sorry I don't have a lot of time. These threads, as I've said before, go VERY fast...

Guest, I am not trying to gang up on Philip in the least. I am a woman who is a BIG advocate for father's rights -- my father was forced to stay away from us for seven years yet still pay child support. Now my brother is going through the EXACT SAME THING with his kids.

Philip, what I mean by propagandizing is that I see you on multiple threads posted by women and challenging their stories at every turn. Dude, I KNOW men can be abused. I repeat -- it has happened TWICE in my family. That does not change the fact that I think YOU are bullying posters here in the name of an agenda. I would say this regardless of what your gender was or what the issue was.

Guest -- how do you know Phil's friend's wife was leeching? Were you there, in their house? For that matter, were you, Philip?

Oh, and Guest - I looked over your post again. I wanna be clear that I am not on anyone's side in this issue with Phil's friend and his wife. I DON'T KNOW THEM.

Just one more quick post on where I'm coming from here -- I moved in with someone once who offered the idea of my finishing school while he paid the bills. It was something I really hesitated at, but I finally said yes, only to discover a huge porn addiction, a violent temper, and taunts that he could do whatever he wanted because after all, what did my "student ass" (his words) contribute? Eventually I said fuck school and got the hell out of there, but not before going into deep debt in order to do so. In no way shape or form was I trying to take the easy way out or leech by going back to school -- he led me to trust that I was safe! I suspect there are others in the same position -- whether students, or house-wives or husbands...the gender doesn't matter. Without hearing that person's side, I can't just assume that she was leeching.

Special K

I have the same observation about Philips conduct here (Does this mean we are in a gang? What are our colours? Shall we choose one?hehe)

BUT I'm trying to see that "perhaps" he was a little reactive. Time will tell.

I was wondering how he could see my Tie die T-shirt, and braids while I sipped Celestial Seasonings tea. Also all the other commune dwellers dancing naked in the background beconing me to come and jion in on our pre spring planting rituals. Plus the social assistance check on my desk, hehe. I thought i didn't have my Cam on!

I'm more inclined to fight fire with fire due to betrayal rather than a stranger.

Your story about the situation you were in with an X, going to school, is exactly what i was thinking when Phillips posted his friends story.

I also remeber the afidavit of lies my x tried to parlay as truth. How he played victim. But luckily all our friends backed up the truth, actually wouldn't testify/perger themselves in court.

I also know a few men who had a raw deal. However there's just as many women in the same situation.
I don't think the unfairness is gender specific, just the injustices are in differnt areas.

Each gender uses their "advantages" to stick it to the other.

One guy was the provider for almost 20 years, and his wife became addicted to coke in the last 3, a gradual erosion happened due to addiction. She started stealing and neglecting the whole family. She had a beautiful truck he bought her and she totaled it. Totaled 2 more vehicles after that. He obviously wanted her to straighten out and she chose to leave. She can't hold down a job, and he pays interum spousal support and has custody of the kids. She lives on her own, barely sees her kids, and he pays her rent + extras.

Thing is he doesn't lament she is getting half the marital assets,( he has to seell one of their 2 homes) just the fact she is dragging things out and he's concerned the kids inheritance is being chipped away.

He thinks she deserves the $ because she took care of them for many years, was a good wife and mother, and supported him a lot while he was busy building his business. He feels he neglected her a bit.Now she behaves like a crack head and is all over the place. Addiction split them apart.

He's not a total ass! The last three years she "lost it" and decided to leave. I even saw her at the bank one day, withdrawing cash ( turns out she was robbing the account) She wasn't very personable and i always had a really bad feeling around her. Now I know why.I really don't know why or what happened behind closed doors though.

There situation is a sad one. A family ripped apart due to coke addiction.

Every situation is different but it's really best if we tell our own stories, and own up to our flaws to understand why things happen the way they do.

Sure is a turnover from 30 years ago. Women have equal footing with men. Theirs a black president in office. The old order is disintegrating. It must suck to be a misogynist these days.
