Thought that I would start a second Shaney thread, since the other was so long.

Hey bev... I copied and pasted the last post from you about the stones, so we could continue without overtaking anyone's thread. Coolio?

Shaney,

Check this out. BTW - I am so jealous of you for making jewelry!! I don't have the patience any more.

http://www.marjoriescracked.com/

I bet once you get some inventory, you can make a fortune with a website. Today, the friend that I gave the tiger eye to brought me this little gift bag. It had two geode slice keyrings in it!! One red jasper, and one lace agate! I never told her - she said she just thought of me when she saw the colors. Hmmm.

BEV - that is so weird! I looked up crazy lace agate and love it. I also ordered a stone catalog and got it in the mail this weekend. I've already dog-eared a few pages so I can place an order. This weekend, M is on duty so I'll be able to experiment with all of my new supplies. Once I get the hang of it, I'll make a few things a start a store on etsy.com. I love that website - SO many cool handmade things.

PS On another thread I was reading, I don't remember now which one-my apologies-there was a discussion on the healing properties of various stones. I'd like to share that I have found Amethyst to be very healing for Migraine headaches. I've suffered with them for up to 3 days-lights out, no noise, and nauseau. Recently I purchased several loose polished Amethyst stones, and one raw stone. When I felt the last 2 headaches coming on, I put one or two of those stones in my jeans pocket and both times my headache subsided. Hope that helps someone:)

I just copied and pasted some info I learned about the healing properties of stones in my own life. I'm not trying to jump into your conversation on this thread, just thought it might help someone.

Also, Sugalite (pronounced soo ja lite) - a stone that is an opaque purple is also reported to have healing properties for Migraines.

Thank you Shaney.

I'm very very interested in healing properties in stones. I'm going to cut and paste and print the list you posted:)

Are you familiar with the 7 Chakra's in the body? There are specific stones that are helpful specific to each Chakra.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

"The Crown chakra, also known as the 7th chakra, is located at the top of the head. This chakra connects us to divine guidance, free will and cosmic consciousness. Balancing this chakra helps to dissolve frustration, depression and migraines. Amethyst is used to promote a state of stability while at the same time protecting against negativity. Quartz Crystal is a stone of manifestation, and encourages clear thinking and focus. Labradorite works to stimulate intuition, which further aligns the crown chakra. Wear this Energy Muse piece when you seek enlightenment."

I'd like to know more from people who've had experience with stones regarding the Chakras. To me discussion regarding stones and chakras is related. If it would be best to start a new thread for Chakras, let me know.

Again, thank you Shaney!!

Hey ShaneyBoBaney!! Hey Longshot!!

I have this old book called The Crystal Handbook by Kenneth Sullivan. Very concise, and it tells the folklore of a gem and sometimes, where it is best worn. Maybe Amazon? It can't cost much, it's a thin paperback.

I really like this site - http://www.crystal-life.com/

I have been doing some reading on the spiritual importance of stones - in different religions. Like the Pope wears the ring, you know, and priests and priestesses of other religions had stones in the breastplates they wore. The stones that are mentioned in Revelations of the bible - which may or may not be "borrowed" from other folklore.

Oh here is another site - maybe to fish for new ideas. I'm pasting this link so you can see the cool stone I just got - but the whole site is great - it tells the healing properties of gems.

http://crystal-cure.com/chiastolite.html - I usually like to touch stones before I buy them, but when I saw this one, I ordered it. It appealed to me, and when I got it yesterday, it resonated when I held it.

YES! I am familiar with chakras, because of yoga, but am not familiar with the stones associated with the 7 chakras. There are however, certain yoga postures that help to allign the chakras in your body. I can just picture myself settling into one of these postures with a dozen stones hanging from my neck. :o)

I too am pretty much a novice as well. But I truly believe there's something to them. After reading about the 7th Chakra, and that balancing it will help relieve frustration, depression and migraines, it hit home with me. So when I had to opportunity to purchase the Amethyst-I was so excited. I went to the website you posted and I think I'm going to buy the rest of the stones to balance the 7th chakra. I'm going to cross reference what's in the website you posted, and what I've read and get the ones that are in both.

Here's something I've read about the Chakras:

http://store.chopra.com/showit.....tcode1=635

It's not my personal favorite because I feel they are over priced. I may find I'm wrong later, who knows.

I read through all 7 of them, and as I read, when I found myself in them I bookmarked them. A couple of them seemed to resonate (I totally get what you're saying there!!) within me-like my spirit was saying yes you need balance in this one. Or you're balanced in this one go on.

OK, got a little lengthy didn't I? Well back to work for the day.

I'm no expert either, but I know first hand how yoga has helped me feel stronger, and at the same time more balanced and peaceful.

I need to do some work too.... :o) yuck. I need an anti-stress stone.

Does any Yoga class help balance the chakras? Or do you have to find one that specifically works with Yoga in relation to chakras?

Not sure if I asked that right?:)

Ohh. Good question. Personally, the yoga studio where I go doesn't have a class specifically geared towards chakras, but depending on the instructor, she'll mention the chakra when we get into the posture that relates to it. Balancing your chakras through yoga is a pretty standard practice. If I had to guess, I'll bet there are definitely classes concentrating in that one area.

Have you done yoga before?

No, I've never tried it. I've done Pilates before and am starting to do that again. (I don't know if there are similarities or not.)

Kind of makes me laugh at myself...I've read of the stones helping balance chakras, but I had no idea that yoga (sounds like by definition) balances chakras:) Thanks for the info Shaney!!

Bevdee-looks like I'm not even a novice yet...I must be a greenhorn:)

Yoga is a whole world in itself. I'm no expert, by any means and started going because I'm as stiff as a board from sitting all day and commuting. Some people LIVE yoga in a big big way - it's a lifestyle. I wish I were that committed.

I do recommend yoga - it's the only thing besides wine, and playing my bubble breaker game on my cell phone, that relaxes me. :o)

I set up my little metalsmithing shop in the garage last night so I can start making some serious jewelry. I've been buying equipment and supplies for a few months, and now I'm ready to begin experimenting. Saturday is the day that I've set aside to torch something.

but seriously, that is interesting about yoga and chakras. I have never done well with yoga, but maybe it's time to give it a try. I'll ask around my yoga-savvy friends.

Longshot -

I'm a novice at chakras. I used to make jewelry. I loved to go to flea markets, which, at the time were a good place to find vintage costume jewelry cheap. I used to look for necklaces with natural beads, because it was easier and cheaper to buy those beads than to purchase "crystals" at New Age bookstores, or other places like that. Once I got a necklace at a garage sale that had huge Rose quartz beads , and another I got was fire jasper. I kept those two. The rest? I cut the necklaces apart, took out the cheap fake goldtone beads, and re-strung the good beads into necklaces, earrings, bracelets, hair barettes. One of a kind!! I sold them and gave the nicest ones as gifts to my sister and mother, but I still have a bunch of those natural gemstones and pulled them out recently to try to string them into something, but I don't have the patience, or the eyes to do it any more. So, I just bought some little decorative martini glasses, chunked the crystals in there and place them around my house. I keep the amethyst stuff at my desk because it helps me write, and because I like looking at them.

A couple of weeks ago, I was looking at this site about crying as release and noticed a little chakra quiz in the index. I took it and it scored me with the following.

From -100% to +100%

Root: under-active (-44%)

Sacral: open (44%)

Navel: open (13%)

Heart: under-active (0%)

Throat: open (31%)

Third Eye: over-active (81%)

Crown: open (25%)

I got kind of bummed out about that. Actually a little frightened as if that means there is something wrong with me, with this disabled heart. Anyway, I rummaged through my old crystals and found the ones I would need, looked up how to do a chakra layout, where to place them, etc. The instructions said that sometimes the crystals moved, and might even pop off, warning that if that happened, not to put them back because it meant the area was open and did not need any work. So- I tried it. Honestly, I was a little skeptical. I mean, I have some favorites I carry in my pocket when I work, and I think it makes a difference in my mood, but as for the other - I didn't know.

I put the dogs out, got some relaxation music going and laid out the stones. I had a carnelian teardrop pendant for the sacral chakra, (sexuality and emotions) and I placed that one on top of my pubic bone as instructed. I hadn't laid there 5 minutes with my palms up, and I felt something slide in my pubic hair., I thought "Oh great we have FLEAS!!, but I reached down and the stone had moved to the left, the side my cyst is on. I didn't move it, and about 5 minutes later, it moved slightly again, a little diagonally to the left. The third eye chakra did not blow off my forehead, though!! With 81% - overdeveloped, I figured that one might fly off and hit the fixtures on the ceiling fan. All jokes aside, it was very odd.

I did another one a couple of days later. That time, the one for Third Eye rolled off my forehead. Third Eye was the most overactive in mine. I thought I might have nodded off, like my head might have moved a little, so I put it back, and within a couple of minutes it had rolled off again in the other direction. I have been wearing a carnelian ring on my left hand, with the stone turned to the palm of my hand so I could place it over my cyst. The cyst is gone. I had a sono a couple of days later. The cyst that should have receded with each period, but stayed firm, finally went away- before my period. I was a little surprised.

I read there are several layouts, each arranged for specific stuff - but I haven't done any of that yet. I'm gonna work on my breathing.

Kroiks... haha! PyroShaneyac.... love it. A new nickname perhaps?

Bev.... those stones seemed to have a mind of their own didn't they? That's really interesting, as was the chakra test. I need work in the root area, which surprised me, and my navel is overactive - which doesn't surprise me or anyone else for that matter, I'm sure. LOL. I'm making a run to the bookstore this weekend, while M is on duty, and get a couple of books on balancing chakras, thought yoga, food, breathing, etc - especially since my ROOT is all screwed up. :o) I'm also getting a stone book. This stuff is so interesting to me, and it's obvious that I'm in the infant stages of learning.

So I took the chakra test, and have 4 areas that are under active...which makes me crazy. Root, Sacral, Naval, and Throat. The other 3 are open-which is confusing to me, because I've been prone to migraine headaches-thus the Amethyst stones. OK, I'm going to find some books to read. I feel so green right now. There's obviously a whole lot more to this than I originally thought.

Ha ha-I thought I just needed to buy a few necklaces:)

I guess I really need to study this some more. Spinning energy centers made me think of precession. Precession is the spinning of atoms in the tissues of the body and what causes MRI images to be formed. I wonder what effect MRI has on chakras, if any? I can't stand to be near the 3Tesla magnets - even at the control panel. Also high-dose radiation, because I do CT scan? I had a chiropracter once that told me how to get radiation out of my body. I didn't know whether or not to believe him- I did it a few times, but that was before I did CT.

Hmm - this may really take some googling.

Bevdee-It sounds like you were already prepared with all the stones needed for the 7 Chakras.

Would you get the set of 7 Chakra stones? Or would you suggest buying each stone separate?

Probably sounds like a silly question, but it's these kinds of details that make me crazy...

I'm asking cause I'm wondering about getting:
The Chakra Bible: The Definitive Guide to Chakra Energy
that Shaney found.

Shaney which one are you thinking about getting? Or do you already have one?
