I wasn't sure if you caught my post on the other thread, so I wanted to re-post it under a separate thread.

WD. I'm so sorry about whatever it was that happened to your son. My son is 17 now. He came to me on September 1, 2004 and told me that he had been sexually abused by a neighbor from the time he was 8 until he was 12 and we moved. I was absolutely horrified. He also told me he had been cutting himself for the past 3 years. He's been in therapy now since he told me, and is getting treated for depression. He has stopped cutting, but this has been such an ordeal. My faith was seriously tested. I ended up in the hospital after a panic attack, and now I take it one day at a time. I remember looking for support for parents back in September and did not find anything. Do you know of any programs for us?

Hi Jill,

Do'nt know any specific programs. THis site has helped me as much as anything I guess.

You might try The National Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453)for a referral. I think they have live support, too.

WD,

I am not sure where to address this to you, or if you even go back to threads to reread in order to catch this post to you, but here goes.

You had mentioned in passing about starting a website of some sort in the future. I am not sure what your vision or mission of that site will exactly be. So I am offering you my interest and services if you believe I would have anything worthwhile to contribute in your developing or maintaining such a site.

Right now, my free time and interests are in working on this site and recently volunteering with the Red Cross. Having relocated, my family time is more open to be fufilled with my desire to volunteer. I have never been a 'groupie' so I veer away from the traditional established organizations. Don't get me wrong, I am a 'people' person.

When I return to work (hopefully soon), I will also be able to budget funds for charitable causes. That may be a consideration for you also.

This recent event here has instilled a personal interest in researching about child incest/abuse. So I am researching the web to see what is out there. Where that will lead me, if not just to educate, I am not sure.

So that is my interest, should you consider I would be helpful in any way, please do let me know. I think it is great you will be developing this new web site and wish you the best in your endeavors!

Hi Sew,

Thanks, I will probably need all the help I can get. I'm not sure if I need more than a static site so money will probably not be an issue. Also, I'm just not computer savvy enough to manage a high throughput site like this one.

I have two ideas.

First is for a plain and simple domestic violence education site. The idea is that the site would address DV from the medical, not just legal viewpoint, that is, it would address all forms of abuse, not just physical.

I would like it to be the type of site where a psychotherapist could get a clue in a hurry as to what they were dealing with and what their duty in such cases is. Perhaps it would have two main pages, one addressed to professionals.

The other site I'm dreaming of would be dedicated to the topic of malpractice by psychotherapists. The sites would reference each other.

At this point assembling content is the first step.

Thanks for your help.

WD,

Thanks for getting back to me. Your ides sound quite interesting! I know the issue of malpractice of psychotherapists is dear to your heart and it may be a great healing tool for you.

So what I understnd is this site would primarily be informative? It would not involve the ability to post as this site offers. Would it allow the viewer to e-mail questions or not?

My computer knowledge is limited as well, all self taught. I just learned how to cut and paste; a simple process, but I learn from hand s on experience. aAcomputer basics course would be a good idea; time, money, is the problem.

Also, if your site had accessiblity of e-mailings and postings, there is the never-ending problem of maintaining it. This site has been in existence for six years as I understand and the money was her life savings. I see your idea of simplicity as a sound one.

If you need me to do research, perhaps I can begin with that if you wish. But whatever it would be, I am a good team player and can work from the bottom of the barrel if that is what it takes. Just let me know what you need, when you need it.

Right now, I am researching available sites and organizations for youngsters with cutting and incest issues. That is my present challenge.

Hi on my way,

Thanks for the offer of help. This project is still at the "twinkling of an eye" stage, so I haven't gotten into that kind of detail yet.

Obviously, if posting were permitted, anonymity would hugely important, epecially for a DV site.
