I am currently living in England where I am a man of 44 and have a small family. My mother who is in her late 80s lives in Los Angeles wher her husband of many years has recently died at the age of 93. She lives in a large house where she has a carer who looks after her.
The irony is I am a carer who wants to go to stay with her and look after her. My fear is If I wait for immigration to grant my entry into USA, my mother may die. She keeps money around the house adn I am worried that her step children will get their hands on it. I am not worried about the house or anything which is due to them, I am worried about them taking everything and just leaving me a note to say that my mother has died.
As you can guess I can not afford to go over to visit her and would need to ask her for the money, but I do not wish to appear greedy as my only intention of asking her for the money is to gain passage over there.
Should I go to LA to look after my mother and she dies shortly thereafter I shall have to return to England. The US embassy has stated that for me to go there sooner to stay I would need to either be a student or fond work there. I could work there by caring for my mother but would also need to find work there so that when she eventually goes, I shall be able to carry on my caring work. ANY IDEAS????

I don't know anything about such things, but can't your mother sponsor you for immigration? Or wouldn't her health problems be a valid reason to stay w/out a time limit? Since you are a carer, can she employ you as such? Or does she know someone who would hire you, even part time? Even if only on paper? And what is the time limit on a visa in the US? I'm surprised to hear that someone from England would have to jump thru so many hoops to come here. Did you want to stay here for a long period of time?

I was wondering the same thing SD. It seems strange to me that he is having such a hard time with this.Maybe the rules have changed, like everything else?

Do you have aenough money to seek an Immigration Attorney here in the USA? Even one who could at least give you advice? Many attorneys answer emails...go to Attorney.com, key in an attorney in the state of CA.
Might work for you?
