I am putting this on a seperate thread, as this is a different topic -

"It is also true that human beings perceive largely through the process of transference and projection. We try to make sense of the world and of the people in it by referring to things that exist mainly inside of our own minds."

This quote from WD stood out among all the others on the thread. I believe it relates to NLP...neuro linguistic programming? Or, in layman's terms, "re-framing". Simply put, the ability to look at a situation from a perspective that is not tainted by preconceptions.

A difficult state to achieve, but a worthy endeavor.

Ah, the embassy may be a cold place at times, but I for one usually find a good reason to visit...

Thanks, WD.

I think the trick, D-Dog is to be conscious of the fact that there is a difference between our perceptions and how reality actually is.

If you ever take a drawing class that idea becomes easy to understand. It takes a long time to learn to draw what you are actually seeing, rather than what you think you ought to be seeing. That's how you can tell an experienced draftsman from a beginner, and why some people's drawings look "realistic" whereas other people's drawings...don't.

Now that is an interesting concept. Do artists, or draftsmen, who are able to take waht they see and put it on paper have a more solid grasp on perception of real life than one who doesn't?

One will find that engineers are very methodical in their thinking.. But civil engineers seem to be less methodical than say, traffic engineers.

My nephew has been an artist since he was 3 yrs old, he is very talented, and approaches life very logically, less emotionally.

Me..I can't draw worth a toot, and I am logical, but approach life from the hip more often than not. Not wreckless, just that way.

Or do you think this is just categorizing, and A+B doesn always = C?

Just thoughts, started me thinking.

Gosh, I don't know.

I know that drawing and science have helped me know how fragile my understanding of reality is, and how vulnerable it is to my subjectivity.

Highly astute analogy!

I myself used to think there was great merit in being an "impressionist" of sorts; and while this may have it's place in creative endeavors, it is not at all effective in dealing with real people and events. I think very few people can get away with cutting off their ear, dropping it in the mail, and going down in history as a great talent! LOL!

I don't know either..and i guess it can only be speculated. I don't know of anyone who has actually done the homework..but thought it was interesting.

France. No reason other than that a few of their players play for Arsenal, who is my English Premier League favorite. Namely Thierry Henry.

They are, however, being rather out-played at the moment. I am concerned!

My roommate is rooting for Italy, so we're having a fun rivalry, at least!

WD,
How did you like the Pirates movie II? Was it as good as the first one?
