free,
Very true.
red,
In the OT God protected the Jews, and yes their was killing in war, but you raise a good question. Even King David murdered someone. But it goes deeper than this. The JEws needed laws, and then the laws were almost impossible to keep to show them their need for God. But this does raise a study element for me and has me thinking....so glad you brought this up.

You cited 3 different beliefs along the same lines-eye for eye, don't pay back same deed, turn the other cheek and there is a progression. I agree- the Bible is filled with progressions.
I run into this problem: in discussion I sometimes tell people that I really think the Bible is a wonderful guide on how to live our lives. I get crucified.
Kuz they will bring up exodus- I think- where it's stated that a man can sell his daughter into slavery, tells that when cooking a bull make sure the smoke from its burning hair doesn't disturb your neighbor, somebody sent a concubine out and told men do what they wish with her and she was gang raped- to death. This kind of thing.
They will bring up different teachings- like you did, and ask which one I fancy?
they will tell me that I can't pick and choose what I want to believe in- it's all the word of God or it's not.
I don't know how to respond to this.
Do you? You'd mentioned somewhere that you were a minister, so I was wondering what you thought of this.
I tell people that I DO like to pick and choose things out of different books and because I'm a human with free will I can in fact do that.
That just leads into a whole new discussion though.
