This is truly something to think about.
Re: whether control is involved. Is it controlling to assert ourselves? What I mean is, if somebody says something that we don't like, is it controlling to say so? or is it being assertive? I'm wondering now about the difference between being controlling and assertive.
Lillabit, know that I hear you. I've been disagreeing about using the term Xtian when addressing those who request not to be addressed with it, but I hear you. You've a good point about being able to say what you want. I just think they have a good point about insisting they be respected and I admire that in people.
I'm wondering if there are social lines that should be respected. Maybe "should" is not the right word. Assuming we are not autistic or emotionally disabled, we are aware of those, as subtle as they are. I find peoples emotional reactions to one another's words, body language, tone, print, fascinating.
I'm wondering if bringing to light a crossing or transgression of those subtle social norms results in heated debate. Perhaps they are best left subtle and transgressions unacknowledged. For example, when in a group or crowd where foul language abounds, I just seek other company. So that social norm is left as subtle, those violating it continue, those finding the violation distasteful (myself) mosey on to find another social group with a bit more class

At the Saturday night tent revival the preacher announces,
"Anyone with 'needs' to be prayed over, come forward, to the front at the altar."
Leroy gets in line, and when it's his turn, the preacher asks:
"Leroy, what do you want me to pray about for you?"
Leroy replies: "Preacher, I need you to pray for help with my hearing."
The preacher puts one finger in Leroy's ear, and he places the other hand on top of Leroy's head and prays and prays and prays, he prays a blue streak for Leroy.
After a few minutes, the Preacher removes his hands, stands back and asks,
"Leroy how is your hearing now?"
Leroy says, "I don't know, Reverend, it ain't 'til next Wednesday."

Just wanted to share this from earlier posts I read. When in doubt if you will google the persons name, you will be surprised at all the info out there. I just did that and am glad I did. Hope this can help someone else.

It was the name of one of the ministries mentioned here a while back. The only thing is I dont know that everything you read about someone you are questioning is necessarily true either. I was mistrusting of this healing ministry because it didnt look right to me. Also, I am leary when someone, one person like that gets so much power. It seems to me that then all that power has to go to their head and becomes abusive. I felt I was helped though from dvds I had gotten and watched, but thankfully other than that I didnt fall for all the constant asking for money which I can not afford in any case. Im just glad I didnt get pulled into it further. However, maybe I just take what I did get from it which was helpful to me. And now Im just trying to leave the rest and even some of what I read on the web about it because some of it was so disturbing that I might have been better off not seeing some of the info.

I just want to say I could be very wrong about how I felt so I hope no one took me seriously. I go through my own suspicions and fears at times which I have to overcome again and move on.

I didnt want to come right out with the name and especially after I read some of the stuff on the web which was really bazarre. Some of it was very upsetting to me. I had watched some of the dvds and really felt helped by them so this has been so confusing for me I didnt want to put that on anyone else. There is a lot of controversy about this healing ministry and I dont believe in that ministry per se. Usually I tend to see any dvds like that as self help things I can do for my own growth so I think I have taken out of it what was helpful and I try to leave the rest or whatever I have doubts about. I will just say it probably is the biggest ministry out there these days so if anyone looks up the name please keep in mind we also dont know about people posting stuff on these sites about someone else. It has some truth to it, I believe, but I dont know about all of it. Sorry I have been so evasive about this just out of trying not to offend anyone. Well, that is a codependent statement isnt it. 🙂
