I fold my cards.

(Temporarily....)

Listening to Mahalia Jackson belt out "In The Upper Room"

I am beside myself.

Truly now.

Know the tune?

It speaks to me.

May not believe in it all - but man oh man - does this song ever cut right to the chase.

"In the upper room" by Mahalia Jackson.

Stellar - even IF I don't necessarily believe in it.

Tugs at my heart strings all the same..........

Anyone else familiar with this classic?

Hmmmmmmm!

Just looking at the lyrics:

Oh yes I'm in in the upper room
With my Jesus
Well I'm in in the upper room
I'm with my Lord
Yes my Lord
Well I'm in in the upper room
Oh I'm in in the upper room
In the in the upper room

Wondering what the lyrics would be like if we took out the words "upper room", "Jesus" and "Lord". I dont get it, why did you like this song TbT?

I like a handful of christian songs too but because they have good music.

lyrics omitted:

"In the upper room with Jesus
Singing in tears blessed fears
Daily there my sins confessing
Beggin for his mercy sweet
Trusting in his blessed powers
Seeking help in loving prayers
Oh in there I feel real
As I see with him the day
In the upper room with Jesus"

because it deals with comfort for troubled hearts, sorrow turned to joy. because the greatest word that could ever be said to a person in sorrow would be the promise that his sorrow will be temporary.

do you want to know more? if you're interested in the context of this song, read with the eyes of your heart John chapter 13 through John 17.

the lyrics are meaningless without Jesus. He is the reason for love, faith and hope. apart from love, faith, and hope, what meaning does life have? once you rule out God, you rule out any thought that He loves you, and thereby give yourself no reason for existing. to be loved is the crown of life. it's the chief clue to the meaning of existence.

read John. your meaning is awaiting for you this very moment.

grace and peace

>> you rule out any thought that He loves you

So does God love me even if I dont want to believe in him?

Whats the big deal about this belief anyway? I'm doing as good or as bad as any athiest, Christian, Hindu or a Muslim.

I dont need to believe in God. I'm busy. I got stuff to do.

Guest...as a fellow atheistic type, I listen to music like this and instead of thinking of Jesus or any god with a name, I think of my "higher self" --what I can be, what I'm capable of when I strip away all the old reactions to abuse and things...

I saved MYSELF. Y'know?

I actually usually dont care about song lyrics since I'm a musical person in that, I listen to chords, composition, the bassline etc.

There's a version of Silent night that I like by ah, I forgot her name but yea - I like that song because of how its done.

Guest,

To answer your question as far as I see it, Yes God still loves you even if you don't believe. It's just the way it is, and no matter who believes or doesn't believe there is still love. There is no judging as far as from one person to another to say if your doing as good or as bad no matter whay you do or don't believe in but I can tell you this from my own life experience is that my life is good, and I do have faith in God, and I do pray for strenth everyday... and for me it has proven to be the way I choose to live my life, and the best way to live my life.

I get it when you said you don't normally listen to the words in a song... lol, my husband is an artist and he hardly ever listens to the words, only the cords, notes, and so on.. can you tell I'm not an artist..ha ha I don't even know how to say it. Have a great day

So I wont get punished or suffer in Hellfire or hell or in any way after I die if I dont believe in God?

>> Yes God still loves you even if you don't believe

If he does make me suffer due to my disbelief, he doesnt love me.

SpecialK,

Yes, Yes, YES!

That is EXACTLY how I feel too - I just didn't quite know how to articulate it as well as you did.

Thank you soooo much for putting something into words which alluded me.

I get inspired from this song as well as stuff by Stevie Ray Vaughn, (Tightrope, Wall of Denial) Al Green's: "Love & Happiness" and Tchaikovsky's Concerto in D Major for Violin and Orchestra Opus 35 and movies such as my favorite....The Shawshank Redemption.

Songs/movies about redemption of the broken spirit.

Uplifting and inspiring.........

Gonna use this thread to make this news announcement I just saw which makes me happy:

More Americans say they have no religion

But it says the percentage rose from 14.2 to 15 percent, from 2001 to now in 2009. Only?

And look at this... scary, slightly though:

>> The study found that the percentage of Americans who identified themselves as Muslim grew to 0.6 percent of the population, while growth in Eastern religions such as Buddhism slightly slowed.

Muslims too will go down.

Couldnt see any other interesting stats. I'm in a hurry.

I have Comcast On-Demand and it is currently available for $4.99.

Maybe I'll take a look see......

Freudian slip?

Maybe?

Maybe not?

Who knows for sure?

I am just open to what feels right in my guts.

Eventually.

Not so ignorant as to consider all options available to me.

Just trying to remain open to ALL aspects, is all......

In an effort to boil it all down to an essence which speaks the truth to me.

I really DO try hard to give all options the benefit of the doubt.......

Eventually - I will figure it all out in my own special time and place.

Maybe that is what we should all try to strive for....

You think????

Not to somehow just regurgitate the lessons of our family and the traits passed down as such - but to finally strike out on own own and realize and come to terms with our own truths?????

Deep down.

In our guts??????

Maybe??????

We're all temporary, destined for becoming worm food. Muslims believe in their god. Christians believe in their God. Hindus and Jews likewise- who's right?

Well our bodies become worm food, or as the bible says... Ashes to ashes and dust to dust.

Our soul is a differnt story.

I am not afraid, to say that Jesus is the right way... The only way.

Ok... now that's gonna stir up a whole lot of people.

I am the right way. I will save you. Let me rephrase that. I'll help you save - by finding coupons for grocery items.

How can Jesus save anyone from hell and suffering when he cant even help anyone save 20 cents on their next purchase of baked ham?

No thanks guest..guest,

Keep your twenty cent coupons.I found my Reedeemer... and HE is worth more than all the teausers on earth.

How can you rule him out altogether ?
Why is it that you are so eager to say that there is no possible way ?

I'm the GuestDeemer, the savior of the Lords. I am The One who will save Jesus and the Lord in the end.

>> How can you rule him out altogether ? Why is it that you are so eager to say that there is no possible way ?

Well because, they dont come out. There's 2.2 billion Christians and 1.2 billion Muslims in the World screaming out God's name. Yet, he's too shy to come out and put a giant floating loudspeaker in the sky and announce his existence to the people.

I dont know. I'll havta see him to believe in him. I'm sure if I told God I have a flying dragon under my bed, he wouldnt believe me until he saw it for himself. Dont you think?

Ok... guest_guest,

I think you have very dark sense of humor. However, the time will come... when Jesus Christ will come again.
and in the end, every knee will bow and every tougue will confess, that Jesus Christ is LORD.

But in the mean time be doubting Thomas if you must... it's only your soul..

My is already saved.
