wd, I really am sorry I made you feel that way. I will never post to you or about you like that again, and I'm glad you said something as I would never want to make you feel that way. I'm a real idiot when I post sometimes. I'm definitely willing to work on that when I'm called on it.

I'm truly sorry. Please know that.

Free..

that is some interesting (political) posts here...I often think of this myself, alot lately.

the two party system scares me...alot. I have read ALOT bout RON PAUL, I love the man, am going to get involved when I move, in politics, after I settle in..I hope to help get him voted in, cause imho he is our last hope.

You know? I kind of like Ron Paul too? (Does your mind ever confuse him with....Ru Paul in the beginning???? 😉

Anyway - been glued to CNN & C-Span here recently and noticed that in some of his comments - that he was actually boo'ed by his own supporters sometimes. Like in the comment of Katrina and cluster-fuck of FEMA - how FEMA should not even exist in the first place!!!!

He is obviously in favor of absolutely NO GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT whatsoever....even to the point of not having something like FEMA in place.

Makes me wonder about other countries?

Do other countries have a sort of FEMA in place?

Just some random thoughts.

In any event, with Hillary taking New Hampshire in lieu of her 3rd place in Iowa....perhaps that brought about some well needed humilty in her stance insomuch as her "energy of entitlement" was perhaps brought down (a necessry) notch or two.

Funny how CNN is piggy-backing the football bowls of recent by having these graphics of the "Ballot Bowl"

Which I applaud. Perhaps this country ought to exhibit the same fevor towards politics that is awarded to college and pro football.

I just look forward to a time when it is just normal to pick up your Sunday paper and find not only facts and stats about various sports venues be applied with the same stats etc towards political candidates and their stats.

To have the same girth and depth and details applied to the "Sports Section" to apply to the "Politial Scetion" of any one said newspaper in this country.

Often than not, the people who are booing are plants and are there to make the other party look bad...I am in big favor of getting rid of paying way too much in taxes to people who I feel do not always deserve my money, I could use that money for retirement and college in ten years, yet we have to scrimp and save and do without and I just tired of it!

Oh my gosh! SOA it's so good to see you! I've wondered so much about ya. What a trip- I posted on Ladeska's thread and then you APPEAR. I'll have to check that thread out- this is the first one I checked out tonight.

It's really good to see ya.

WD, I'm really sorry. I wish you would post.

truthb-

I don't know about NO government involvement. The thought of people hungry in a country as wealthy as this bothers me..I wonder of charitable organizations would be able to take care of people who couldn't take care of themselves for whatever reason. At the same time, i just wanna hit people who take advantage of government help.

Interesting- in Katrina there was so much hooplah over FEMA and people not getting help. Certainly help was necessary- my folks in Houston took a family in from my dad's chatroom as the Astrodome situation was just a mess. I've some friends in Montana and they get brutal blizzards but the people help one another- they go searching for lost people and pets, take food to older people, pay people's heating bills, stuff like that- they tend to not be willing to depend on government help as they think that will render them helpless. Interesting perspective isn't it?

I know the Dixie Chicks are controversial. But one of my kids showed me this song and I cried. I want to share. We teach history so as to not repeat it, and I just really, really think we are.

DIXIE CHICKS LYRICS

"Travelin' Soldier"

Two days past eighteen
He was waiting for the bus in his army green
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gives him a smile
And he said would you mind sittin' down for a while
And talking to me,
I'm feeling a little low
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go

So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you

Chorus: I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home

So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart
It might be love and all of the things he was so scared of
He said when it's getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sittin' down at the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for awhile

[Chorus]

One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the Anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead
Crying all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read and nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair

Hi Free,

OK, I feel better. Sorry I snapped at you.

I had my political blood lust all up and you kinda handily disarmed me--I dunno, sex and politics don't mix well for me. Unless we are talking about the sex lives of politicians, in which case I think it's fascinating.

Anyway, I realized something.

Probably the person I think of as my "best friend" even though we only see each other at work, is a raving libertarian. Sometimes, I accuse him of being a young Republican. And boy do we ever go around. But we still really like each other, and we are able to argue respectfully, without our feelings getting hurt.

I think it is a dumb idea for me to let political disagreements interfere with my friendships...pen-pal-ships, whatever.

I have noticed that religion, politics, and to some extent sex, are pretty hot-button issues for most everyone.

So anytime I enter into conversations about those topics, I need to take extra care to keep a cool head, and to try to have a sense of humor.

cool I'm glad you're back posting here wd. I shall mind my manners! It's killing me I should let you know 🙂 j/k!

I get accused of being Republican all the time. Unless of course I'm in a crowd of republicans. then I'm a democrat.

Seems the nation would be alot better off if government's only job would be to protect the country from military influence and let the people govern themselves. But no, government has to take my money and invest it for me so I can "retire" kuz I'm not responsible enough to take care of that myself. ugh. they take my money and tell me what charities (essentially) I shall support. they tell me how I must raise my children, that I must use their corrupt legal system (and PAY up the gazoo to do that), provide for those who aren't interested in working, yada yada. I could go on on.

I say leave me the f alone unless I'm violating the right of another to their pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.

As far as party affiliation goes, I like checking the box that says "decline to state." Don't EVEN go so far as to group ME. I'll figure out how I want to vote on an individual basis, be it the pres, congresswomen/men, measures, props, etc.

Checking this box assures to some extent that nobody will ever know what/who may have influenced me.

I like that.
