As an
artist I have been working to find my own personal style since I
was 4, which is when I first started drawing. I think of art style
as a game of roulette: You cast the ball on the platform and go
through a zillion influences before you narrow it down to something
you finally think you like. But you can't predict where your
style's gonna go or anything. And usually that style is something
you've always liked, but have taken various detours to see if
there's something you like better.

And now I think
I've narrowed it to my preferences, which I have actually liked for
as long as I can remember. I've always been into scientific books
and I fell in love with speculative art of space and dinosaurs a
very long time ago...I think my first exposure to it was when I was
5. There was this one time I was in 2nd grade we were told to draw
the solar system. Using crayons, I drew a yellow ball of a sun, and
then I drew over it a black texture because I'd seen it in one of
my family's books before. But then the other kids made fun of me,
so I drew silly sunglasses over it. 🙁 I've always loved
sciencey-art and have now returned to it.

Overall I've gone
through a lot of influences: I went through a Sailor Moon phase.
Tokyo Mew Mew. Final Fantasy. Yoshitaka Amano. Jean Giraud.
Sixties. Roman Art. You name it, I've probably got an example of it
somewhere in my art portfolio. And now I've returned to what I've
always wanted: Space and science. I haven't been drawing much
because of other things, but hopefully that will change.

puptent,

I've always
admired people who could draw and create. My sister was always a
very good artist, I think she got it from my uncle, who had done
illustrations in children's books and for cartoons.

My sister and I
took an art class together in high school. Her drawings were always
so much better than mine, she had that natural talent. She hardly
draws anymore, which is a shame.

I had a very good
friend I met in high school, and she and I remained close friends
until she passed away last year from cancer. She had won an art
scholarship to attend a university to study art. She did amazing
things with oils, pencil, and watercolors. She never attended the
university. She got involved with an abusive, sociopathic boyfriend
during our last year of high school, and she spent her best years
catering to him and abandoning her art.

My art has always
been more with writing. I have tried to start journaling. My
bestest friend says I should write books someday about my life. My
boyfriend told me the same thing.

Stay true to your
passion, don't give it up. I have seen first-hand what a loss it is
when a person gives up their talent.

Hi
chinadoll, creating and drawing is like a sixth sense everyone has
the ability, but it takes a desire to develop it.

Puptent...I wished I had a talent that was artistic, I think
its great you had this ability and wanted to expand on it since age
4, good for you! I like to write my thoughts out sometimes, I
should do more, make time to do things, but I just never seem to
find the time, and I should!

BFG-
I believe that everyone has talents and is artistic. Most prefer to
appreciate art as opposed to creating it.

another artEEST! Very NICE! ;0)

I drew nudes from
memory when I was 4. Got me in a lot of trouble when I got into
Junior Kindergarten, specially 'cause they were anatomically
correct!

(Must've been the
nudist camp so don't assume i was molested. I wasn't)

My parents had to
coach me about living the double life then.

More later.
;o)

MSG,
my Aunt and brother belong to a nudist camp. I have been
experiencing a block. I have a project that someone is paying me to
do, due. Then the person quit their job, so my pay is being
delayed. I still need to complete it. Once I start it I fall into
some kind of time warp until it is completed. Most of my art is
fantasy based anime. I am having a BLAST working with
blender.
