Question! Is the Pope afraid to die?

And why are we supposed to be sad about his passing - isn't entering the Kingdom of Heaven the ultimate, especially for a "man of his greatness?"

I am confused.

No, he's not afraid.

We aren't "supposed to be sad" at all. Catholics the world over are calmly & respectfully praying for him, out of love. Here in England the newses all emphasise how peaceful and dignified this whole situation is - no hysteria whatsoever.

His enormous influence is being discussed in the media - not only on the Church, but politically all over the world. Because this Pope was around for 25 years, and was non-Italian, (from behind the 'iron curtain', and of great influence in overcoming communism) and because he travelled a lot as an ambassador for world peace & justice.

Whatever one thinks of the Roman Catholic Church - its doctrines & practices and human-rights record (appalling!) - it is a gigantic force in the world, and the Pope is recognised as having phenomenal religious and secular influence on billions of people's lives.

Hence the "fuss". Which, to be fair, is reasoned, critical, fair and dignified here in the UK.

Hope that helps.

Blessings - gazelle.

ps. I am not a Catholic. Nor a conventional Christian any more.

You are not supposed to be sad, hon, because he is not a part of your family.

When a person is baptized a Catholic, we become part of a family, the Catholic family. So when a much beloved member of your family dies you are sad.

Sad, not because he or she went to heaven! We rejoice at that. We are sad because we will miss that beloved person until we meet again in heaven.

love, bonita

Hey B - I was baptized Catholic. Just turned away from the church for most of my adult life, have accepted Jesus now and want to understand my Catholic "roots". :o) Will say a prayer.

Thanks, Gazelle, for the info. Very concise, makes perfect sense!! :o)

Yes, I would imagine he is happy, no more suffering. But the Pope is such an icon. I am not Catholic, but when he visited San Francisco in the early 80's, I was so impressed with his face...such countenance, I could see the love in his heart, truly amazing.
