Hi All,

One month ago our beloved family pet "Cleo" was diagnosed with lymphoma. We got tablets from the vet but we were told there was nothing that could be done.
Yesterday, after a hard weekend for poor Cleo, we brought her to the vet who sent her to doggy heaven. She was in my arms and I gently rocked her to her final sleep.

I am so sad today, every few minutes I think about her little shih-tzu face and it brings tears to my eyes.
Of course in todays corporate world its just not the done thing to take time off work to grieve over a pet, but I feel like I have lost a member of my closest family and I will miss her so so much.

My mother and father are elderly and she was their life, especially after my youngest sister flew the nest last year. They are devestated as we all are, but I truly feel that a little piece of my Dads heart broke away yesterday...and I'm worried that it will not heal. My mother spent yesterday in hysterical wailing, but at least she is grieving, my dad just sits stony-faced, pale, heart-broken. Our little grey and white "baby" gone forever.

She left us with such good memories, she was full of life and had a unique "princess" personality. When she walked it was with her head and tail held high and a spring in her step....she was a sassy little chic! An example to all females! Those brown eyes could make the hardest heart melt...and I've seen the toughest macho blokes turn into soppy idiots at the sight of her (sometimes I'd ask her in private how she managed to do it!).
Sometimes she was naughty...early on in her life with us, she developed an obsession with lingerie, with four sisters in the house there was plenty of it around...cries of "Oh Cleo" when one of us would find our most delicate (and expensive) smalls ripped to shreds in her basket!
She slept at the foot of one of our beds each night (whoever happened to be in favour at the time!). Each morning she would lounge at the foot of my mothers bed and await breakfast (a sausage and piece of toast) served to her on a tray by Dad, then lashings of hugs and kisses and a nice walk in the park.
O you would have adored her, I hope that god is looking after her now.

R.I.P. Cleopatra Mary Walsh. November 1994-February 2005.

I am sorry for your loss. I have a dear friend who owns one of the best dogs I have ever known. In fact, this dog is the reason I learned to like dogs. She has cancer and will have to soon go to doggie heaven as well.

There's just no way that there isn't a special place for animals. They are too wonderful for "god" not to have put that in the plan somewhere...

Love,

Ren'ai

Sorry for your loss they are like one of the family. I just lost my border collie, he died about a month ago, he was 13 years old and gave us so much devotion. He protected my boys, I remember when my youngest was 3, now 17, and we lived up on a hill in CA, and I told my dog, now if J even wanders off of the grass ( I had to run in for a second) you bark and let me know. Border collies are so intelligent...sure enough I heard him barking and I went out and J had started down the hill.

I miss having a dog, I love them, have never been without one until now. They are blessed creatures, full of love, truly a best friend...and remember..Dog spelled backwards is God.
Good thread, we get to talk about our pets.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hi Everyone, Zinnie, isn't that poem just great? I read it yesterday and last night it helped me to sleep. I was having terrible trouble trying to figure out exactly where she was. I kept asking my BF where he thought she was. I didn't want to think of her anywhere cold or dark.
So, its good that now I can see her playing in a meadow with lots of other little dogs....and OMW your clever border collie is there helping her out too! We had a border collie before Cleo, his name was Dino and he was a quiet clever fellow, I'd like to think of him looking out for his li'l sister Cleo up there in Rainbow Bridge!
AW....an animal lover too! The best kind of people are those that love and care for animals...those are the kind of people that you know have good big huge hearts!

What a beautiful post, Zinnie. I know how much you love your LOUD.

I'll see if I can't send a copy of what you wrote to my friend.

Love,

Ren'ai

My son and I had a dog named sheeba, and she was so sweet. Not a fancy dog or anything like that but she was black and white and so special to us.

One year when we went for a vacation to the snow we left sheeba with a cousin at our house. WE told him don't leave her off of her leash because she likes to chase cars. WEll he thought he could control her and left her loose while he sat out front with her and yep she ran after a car and got killed.

While on vacation I told my son IM saving some film because I want to take some pictures of sheeba but when we got home we found out she had died while we were gone. I cried and cried for a week for my best friend.

We now have a pitbull/mixed with something else, her name is Bammer and and she is very protective but we need to keep her locked up whenever company comes until she gets to know them or she will bite them. And heaven forbid the mailman comes to the door she wont stop barking until he is gone from the block.

The poem above really helped me when I put my best friend of 15 years to sleep.

You can send a picture to this website and they'll make you a treasured gift that has this poem along with a picture of your dog.

http://www.griefonline.com/cus.....m_8_04.htm

I also found a site, don't remember it now, that had a candle light ceremony where they said the name of your pet if you asked them too.

There are sources out there for grieving over animals. It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I had my baby before I ever had my children....it's so hard to put them down but just know that Cleo is no longer suffering.
