Maybe so. I have already played the "Obama" card with some of my students. I told them that now that had no excuse. they could grow up to be president if they wanted to and if they wanted to be president and in charge of billions of dollars, they had better learn their times tables.
Obama will certainly be a different role model than the rap stars etc, that some kids have looked up to.

Yea. I hope they take him as a role model. At least he can speak properly and does not treat women like kleenex.

Or see them as an object for lust and anger.

It is out of control. In my class we never thought of that till about the end of 8th grade. I am sorry but to some aspect I have to blame the parents. There isnt correct supervision over these kids. Plus it doesnt help that sex is everywhere.

Sex is everywhere and the kids don't get taught at home how to behave. sometimes I think our boys are being taught to get as many woman as you can and our girls to get as many men.

I wouldnt doubt it. There was a 6th grader that stuck out to me. 6th grade and everyone knew she was a slut. Why dont these parents step up and well PARENT!

I know you cannot control your kids completely. But you can teach your children self-worth. Especially these little girls. Makes me wonder if it is because of the father or mother, or both. If your kids know you love and care then they wont find a need to find it somewhere else.

"Being black does not make a person a victim either.

All the victims of slavery are dead.

As are the people who victimized them."

The part about slavery itself may be true...but there sure was a long history after that and many are alive and well and still spreading their narrow minded and ignorant hatred to this day. And many are alive and well that remember being bitten by police dogs and beaten down by fire hoses and having their leaders gunned down like dogs.

And although you or I may not have participated in such horrible acts.....please don't minimize what has happened to these people or their feelings about it.

Let's just hope that this past election will bring about a new chapter in our history books.

Peace and understanding to us all~

You are right Lolli and I wonder what those people who dealt with colored water fountains think of this generation. Because instead of white narrow minded people being the ones who are gunning them down, they are gunning themselves down.

Those acts were awful when it happened in history. I dont think we should so much minimize it as we need to move past it. We need to keep it in mind so as to not allow it to happen again.

Hi Billy,

"....I wonder what those people who dealt with colored water fountains think of this generation."

I can't imagine they are any too pleased about it.

I can only hope that with this election and with Obama as a real role model (in my opinion) that people young and old, black and white will be able to put aside their differences and work together to make this a country to be proud of. I also hope for the young black people of this country that Obama being elected will instill in them a new sense of pride and motivation.

It could happen. After this week I believe anything is possible.

Yes we can!

We can all hope that it will improve everything in a race aspect. From what I looked about the election I believe there were some states that got rid of affirmative action.

Which although I think at one point it was an equalizer now it is going the other way. I know the university of michigan has had a lot of heat about it, rightfully so.

Guest,
I wouldn't say Hilary has a weak personality, but rather that she lacks charisma. She just can't work a crowd like, for example, Palin, who is all charisma.

What has Hilary done on her own? Well she graduated from Yale Law school, became the first female full partner at Rose Law, she chaired the United States Legal Services Corporation, was head of the ABA committee on women in the profession and chaired the Board of the Children's Defense Fund all before her husband became president. In fact, before Bill was president, she was the one with the bigger career. Not exactly a coattail rider.

She is also currently a US senator for the state of NY.

Oh I would never minimize what a victim has endured lolli- not my intention at all. My point is that being black does not make one a victim. Being white does not make one a perpetrator.

People forget that white people gave their lives to end slavery. I have ancestors who fought for the north. One died in a southern jail. So then how come being white doesn't make me a hero? My ancestors stood up for what was right.

I have an ancestor in the family tree who was a slave owner. Should I be ashamed? I'm also part German. should I feel ashamed of my ancestory due to nazi Germany? If so, then how should I feel about my grandpa who spoke often and proudly of the liberation of the nazi concentration camps- of which he was a part of, giving a holocaust survivor his coat and seat on the truck- he walked.

Race is a weapon that bullies use. Like sex is a weapon rapists use.

men should not feel shame or guilt do to the fact that some men rape women. And white people don't have to feel shame for what other white people do.

Women have no business claiming victim unless they've been victimized. And blacks have no business claiming victim unless THEY have been victimized.

Not all whites are perpetrators. Neither are males.

This is not minimizing what a victim endures. It's giving the victim what he/she deserves- the right to be heard. That voice is silenced when everybody claims victim.
