Boy, those folks down in Florida must be so tired of dodging hurricanes by now.

Will certainly keep Sew and others in my prayers.

(Hi Sew, hang in there girl!)

Hail! Hail! the gang's all here! Or some of us...how simply divine that you all are thinking of me, as have been gone here for awhile! Thanks for the good thoughts, and yes, remained unscathed from the beautiful name of Katrina. I will admit, after last year's storms, I was a bit nervous and tried to tell myself it was only feeling the nervousness of all around here and work folks as well. But, no, I was getting a bit anxious. Rather deal with the tornadoes am familiar growing up with; they come and go in five minutes. At least you know where you stand with any destruction. Here, the winds and rains can last three days. Bloody unpredictable.

I have told my Red Cross nurse coordinator that either I will be working at the nursing home, or with the shelters. Either one, for sure when the storms come. Here, anyone with a medical license, or who works in a health care setting, is bound to be required to be available. The hard truth of the reality came when my license required me to answer disaster availability questions. But, that is what it is all about, and am more than willing to serve.

I have always wanted to work for the Red Cross, so I was very happy to get my feet wet, (pun) last year with my first storm experience. It was scary, exhausting, but very fufilling and I made a new friend to top it off!

And have made plans for Schotz to be housed at the animal hospital for any storm activity so she will be safe!!!

It looks like the warm waters of the eastern bay are just right to add to the storm's power and when it hits landfall again in Naples, it looks like it will go from a number one to a number three; not good. They are so unpredictable!

All we got was some fallen branches, hurrah!

Oh! If anyone has AOL, the storm's pictures of Deerfield beach are on the net!!! It shows one picture of a guy battling the sand blowing on the boardwalk "my" boardwalk that I frequent! It really is a beautiful place to walk, jog, or just people watch; if anyone was interested!!!

The pix looks like it was taken right across the street from the fire-rescue station...the one where my car stood stranded in water up to the bottom of my car door. I had to call 911; the firemen rescued my daughter and I from the car. Must have been that second glass of wine, too much girl talk and singing...ah, well, another story, another time!

So good to heqar from everyone. My notebook still has an unrepaired bad modem. I finally got onto aol using my mom's old pc...from 2000 and never updated, so it has it's own problems and I am not too handy with pc material. Guess it is time to hire someone to come in and take care of it all? More money to be spent. But, it is good to be working; work is good, life is good as well. I cannot complain too much about anything. If I do, I try to find the laughter in it somewhere; which usually repairs the ego damage and lifts the spirits!

Take care, my friends. How is everyone doing? Barely have time to read the threads anymore and feel am really missing alot.

With sunshine hugs,

~Sew~

Camer,

I am FINE! tHANKS BUT i AM IN THE SOUTHERN PART THAT MISSED THIS DIASTER. But let's continue to pray for those whop have endured this terrible thing. and, hope everyone gives to Red Cross or Salvation Army; their funds 100% go to the victyims; no overhead costs are taken out...for sure.

Otherwise, Camer, and who else I missed, my time draws me away from here, as I am doiong well, quite well and generally happy!

Still searching out and geneology of my Finnish heritage! What fun, what joy (and I work in a 80% Finnish speaking nursing and retirement homes!

"Happinees is a place between having too little or too much." Finnish proverb.....guess many of us are there and we didn't even know it!

So how is Camer dpoing? How is the boy-friend? Me? Interests and not interested. Too much going on with other things, developing and publishing my poetry.

So, life is good!

((((sew))) aso Glad you didnt have the devastation the neighboring states to you have been faced with.
J and I keep watching Headline News and CNN, and I just cant believe what has happened. It s so tragic, adn I think the LOuisiana Gov't. dropped the ball in this matter, not that folks really can prepare all that well for such an awful event, but Its so sad, and frustrating . I cannot imagine losing a home, let alone a whole city!!!
We've been making lists for preparation of terrible events that could happen, J was quite the boy scout for years and has done a lot of eading and research of "survivalist" types of preparing and were getting what he calls a "Bug out Bag" to store "just in case." Lots of water, me with my meds, clothes etc. and thinking of a p;ace to go , A place to meet if we get seperated, wtc. Its not a great conversation, but You never know what you may need to do, so things should be discussed.
Ive now got two jugs of water in my trunk, with a backpack toothbrush, hair tyes, 3 pairs of socks, underwear, and a pair of pants and sweatshirt, t shirt, and a first aid box. I have my meds that need refridgeration in a ziplock bag in the fridge so IF i have to I can just grab iot and go, without having to think about it under stress. J has a battery operated flashlight/radio with extra batteries as well. We kno what cell phones will not work in the event of such devastation as flooding and other awful situations, so we need a radio at leat to hear what is going on.
I am not sure what wed do with my kittiy in this case, but Id certainly find a way to make sure hes not left behind. I'll be adding dry cat food to the backpack, and perhaps a couple cans with the easy open tops.

Okay, Im getting all anxiety ridden thinking about this, but I certainly am praying for The folks in Alabama, Mississippi,Louisiana, etc. who are coping with Katrina's aftermath.

when I was drivingwith J yesterday to his shop I was looking around at the town, and trying to fathom it all being gone overnight, looking at all the people walking, driving, all the buildings etc. I just couldnt imagine having to face the flooding and total destruction of a storm, a bomb, or whatever may happen. But Id hope that We could get somewhere dry and safe as quickly as possible. I dont think Id be one of the folks who didnt evacuate. But I guess one really never knows how theyd deal withthis type of thing until it happens. I guess Watching all the coverage is making me a little paranoid, but It is good to have some sort of emergency Plan just in case.
J says he wont ever move to where hurricaines are prominent, but I dont think you can ever really know.
I'll keep raying that the hurricaine season ends wihout anymore catastrophic outcomes, and pray for all the surviors of Katrina.
IF I was in better health, I wouldve driven down to help in some way, but I am not in grear health, and am Peone ot infections etc.
It is such a helpless feeling ot see all the pain and devatation and not being able to do much.
I am bringing a lot of things to the Salvation army today though, I dont know If it will get down south from here, but I have things that I dont use or need that Id like someone else ot have, so thats a start.

(((((((hug)))))))

SEW:

I am so HAPPY to see you are ok. Have been a bit concerned since haven't heard from you for awhile. That's the one thing about these boards that drives me nuts. There is no way to check up on someone unless they come back and post. Oh well. I am so glad you are ok.
