last night it turns out Cat had posted on Youtube. She said her name, age, and where she lived. I explained to her that there were bad people on line who targeted precious little girls. She asked me: Mama if God knows everything and is in control why does he let the bad people do bad things. I tried to explain the doctrine of free will but failed miserably. How do I make an 11 yr old face reality yet keep her innocence and belief that God can do anything?

From a child I was taught that people had 'agency' that meant they could make choices good or bad and God will not stop them. the whole point of life on this earth is to live by faith and choose good actions. This I could understand even at a young age. That was because in those days most people you met were basically good people and as a white kid growing up in a suburban neighbor hood I only knew child size problems. I don't know how you could explain it to a child in today's world.

Could your child understand that you and God can protect her and some children have no loving parent to help them?

The title of your thread reminded me of a book entitled: When Bad Things Happen To Good People by Harold S Kushner.

Afraid that is all that I can contribute right now.

May want to check it out.......

Free will is love. If God had made us puppets it would mean that he would not love us. There is evil in the world and some people choose evil. Maybe just make her feel safe. She will learn about God from your love, how safe you make her feel, etc.

Bitsy, read the book "The Shack" if you can. It goes into all of that as well.

Tell her God doesnt exist. Well I hope she finds out when she grows up. I'm an atheist myself.
