Isis- Is the arm you broke your dominant one? How long are you going to be off work?

Need to try and think of some things you could do. Can you vacuum with the other arm? At least your floors would be clean for one day.

Oh my, here I go with the probelm solving- I don't want you to lose your mind!!

Bev- I'm so honored! A thread dedicated to me.

No, I broke my left arm- a crack on the radial head and the ulnar. I also fractured my coccyx. Damn that ice. It's also like ten below zero up here in Massachusetts...brrrr.

OK, I never ever realized just how much I actually did with my left hand.
My house helper is away until the end of February, so I'm stuck with myself and my spoiled rotten, beautiful, self-centered children (and my hubby too). And this is a large home, complete with three dogs, a cat and two horses out in the barn.

Also, I haven't worked for a long time. My RA was in a raging flare for almost three years. Presently I am studying for and preparing to enter a Nurse Practitioner program at MGH.

I'm considering doing some volunteer work at HAWC until I get back into the swing of things. It's been a while since I've been involved in social services.

Any suggestions? I just love problem solving too.

Thanks Bev, you're a doll.

Thanks Bev for the thread

Isis you said your house helper is away till end of Feb. What about getting a part time house helper?

This will take some stress off you.

Was just thinking how difficult it must be to type with one hand. Gosh man, hope you feel better.

Love

Garfield

Isis

Ok - first things first. Is there a maid service that can come to your house? Lots of these maid services will take temp or short-term assignments.

You can't sit for long can you? Hmm- you could lie on your side and do leg exercises? joke. YOu could still dust with one hand?

I think it would be real hard to type with one hand for any extended amount of time. I am doing iy now and it is making me nuts!!!

I think reading - I would utilise my time to do some reading? Do you still have paper files? Or photos to organise? Those are projects I put off till last - low priority.

Are you studying at home? If not could you do it online? Or from your computer?

I have to go back to work, which involves a long drive, so I will ponder this some more.

What would I do to keep myself busy if I had no left hand to use? Hmmm

Isis:

I think this is a perfect time to start the kids and even hubby maybe on doin some of the housekeeping.

Easier said than done coz I'm dealing w/ that very subject now. My housekeeper quit because she has two classes to finish to get her bachelor's degree. Yes, it was my oldest and I'm proud to let her quit if she'll finish her degree. Two classes and she'll have it.

So, I have been gonna call a nurses home thingie and they set you up w/ housekeeping. Hubby throws a fit and there is no reason why he and my youngest (13 yrs old) cannot keep it up themselves. Yeah right. it's been 3 weeks now, I cannot breathe and I told him I WILL be getting a housekeeper coz if I don't then we are not gonna be getting along. When I returned home yesterday he was vacuuming.

I'm still gonna end up w/ a housekeeper I'm sure of it. But, maybe you'll have better luck. Try it out and see how it works for ya.

If not, your doc's office should be able to refer you to someone.

I'm glad you are feeling better - great news on the fanny and the arm!

I have been doing so-so. I had a brief respite after xmas, but the mama and sister drama are back in full gear. I have set a limitfor myself, though - I only answer one call a day.

How did you keep busy? Did you get too bored?

I kept busy filing, and reading- been doing lots of reading. I finished 'My Sisters Keeper' and what a read it was. I'm still thinking about it.

Oh boy, a one call a day limit- that crazy huh? You get bombarded with calls, and I still patiently wait for one. My sister is pregnant with her first child, due March 6th.

I can't stand this limbo I have myself in. At least you've set some boundaries. I've got myself locked up in Fort Knox.

Isis,

I had to set some boundaries, because it's worse than ever.

My withdrawing from that "circle" at xmas has caused my mom to - withdraw, pretending to respect my boundaries, then in the last couple of weeks, she has doubled her efforts to bring that circle back. The calls have subsided, but the emails haven't. If I do respond to any of those, I am very careful of what I say. She would print them and take them to her mother's and show them at supper. (I'm not kidding)

I believe if I were there in the same town, I would be alarmed, because I know the kind of s**t she likes to pull.

Anyway, I am making this tiny progress, but it doesn't seem fast enough.
