Hi dereka!

Thanksgiving here came from a time when the Indians (native people to the land here that we took) and the pilgrims (the white people who came from England to settle here in search of a better life)sat down to eat in peace together and celebrated the bountiful food from the land.

Now tradition has it that we get together with friends and family and cook lots of food for a big Thanksgiving dinner, being thankful for the many blessings in our lives. Traditionally, people roast a Turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, assorted vegetables, yams. some people do ham or prime rib, and dishes for dinner vary.

Many people watch football all day long and drink until dinner.

Many people spend the day cooking for the big meal and then cleaning after the big meal.

If I had my way- we would have made submarine sandwiches and went to the beach. It's a gorgeous day here.

How is your day going? It sounds like our Christmas specially the bit about drinking beer and the lads watching footy all day , but we normally do that Boxing day.

Cheers to you dereka!

Actually, we do pretty much the same thing on Christmas too, only there are presents and of course the Christmas tree. And some go to church. the Jewish celebrate hannukah, I don't know much about that. Some don't celebrate Christmas at all.

what is boxing day dereka? And what do you do on Christmas? Are you from Ireland or Scottland?

Free~ I think traditionally boxing day was the day that servants took off because they worked Christmas Day. They would leave their employers homes and were giving presents in gift boxes to take with them. I think now they celebrate it by giving gifts to anyone who has done a service for them in the past. I may be wrong, it's been a while since I've been to England.

Hello again 🙂

I am from neither but I do have an Aunt in Scotland they celebrate Hogmany really big which is new year. Our Boxing day is the day after Christmas and they call it boxing day because of all the boxes left over apparently!! On Christmas we do the same as you eat lots open gifts and put up with silly Jokes but its quite nice really I am from the middle part of Britain (UK) It isnt really called Britain anymore is it !?!?!
