Guppy,
Guppy Guppy Guppy...finally getting back to you.
Sorry I didn't answer your question about remembering faces from the evolution thread. I was distracted. Fascinating question, worthy of its own thread. I think different people remember different things with different amounts of clarity.
Memory is usually about attention, repetition and association. We often remember a thing by first remembering something that is easier to remember that reminds us of that thing.
If you actually made a conscious effort to look at and remember important faces, you might be able to ...or not. Some people remember faces, some names, or numbers...
I personally, absolutely suck at remembering birthdays, or "special dates." I can remember my birthdate, my son's birthdate, my deceased brother's birthdate, and Jesus' putative birthdate. And that's it. I am slightly annoyed that I should have to remember any other person's birthdate. But if I tried, I could probably learn to remember the most important birthdays.
Names, I am almost as bad at. Seems like I remember a name better if I think the poerson is "important." A girl I met at a cocktail party? Forget it. More on name memory later.
My best thing is remembering SOUNDS.

Thank u for the reply. yes, u are right. i remember addresses and phone numbers and can tell u the phone # and address where i lived when i started kindergarden. but i can not tell u the teacher's name. and often i actually recognize someone when i hear them speak. voices i get. faces i dont. never have. and quite honestly the way someone looks isn't as important to me as what i hear them say. i used to think it was because of my eye sight to begin with that i am more interested in the voice but it is probably just the way i am wired.:) and i seem to be able to store phone numbers forever. maybe it is because i associate it with hearing. haven't tought of it that way before. what ever information u got i am all ears!!:) i am not interested in new cars, how u look, what u are wearing, how much money u got, but i choose who i am friends with by what u think and what u say. in fact i am drawn to it. the best looking man in the world probably wouldn't even get picked up by my radar if he couldn't speak with some intelligence and forthrightness. i'm gonna have to find a book on this.....
