I was down in New Orleans this weekend and the Christian protestors were out. I was surprised to learn that "God hates, dogs and pigs (wonder why he created them?), high-school football and sports nuts, of course Homosexuals, liberals, good people, masterbatters, money lovers (name me one preacher or church that doesn't ask for money everytime they can)etc...

Why would someone who is supposed to be Christian be so filled with hate that they would drive out of their way to come and protest and shout at folks.

Caraway -

Did they identify which (supposedly Christian) group they represented?

Ma and Terri,

There was no identification about type of church (many references to Jesus) but truly amazing to see this list of things on big signs that said, "GOD HATES", and listed them out.

I really don't take folks like that seriously and feel that they don't represent the majority of believers. They were protesting in the French Quarter on Bourbon Street.

Ah Labor Day Weekend in NOLA. Southern Decadence Weekend AKA Faf and Drag Weekend. The locals hate everything that weekend. Did you have fun?

Cary,

You wrote: "Why would someone who is supposed to be Christian be so filled with hate that they would drive out of their way to come and protest and shout at folks."

(Do you really want to know what I think about this?)

My thinking is - why does ANYONE hate anyone and/or anything who will exhibit such behavior this publicly and/or vehemently.... TO BEGIN WITH?

To begin with??????

My honest to goodness thinking is that it says MUCH MORE about what the person who is protesting and carrying on all this foolish mess - as it relates to their own lives than just what the protest is - to begin with.

You follow me?

Let's think about this rationally for just a gosh darned, New York minute....?

WHY would someone even DO THIS to begin with?

WHAT exactly is 'up with them' that now, as an adult, they feel some kind of propulsion and need to protest this as a result?

You know?

I say, alot of it boils down to them not being willing, nor able or wanting to just take a long and hard look at themselves in the mirror is all.

Think about it!

If someone was really cool and comfortable and just AOK about themselves and the rest of the diverse world and comfortable within their own skins about themselves - then, well basically, protesting about 'others' would pretty much be a moot point, wouldn't you agree?

See - that's the bottom line, I think.

In the end, it is really not so much what these ignorant buttholes are reigning against - but rather - truly, in reality, some portion of themselves that they just will not and do not accept and therefore, cowardly project towards others in some kind of screwed up, public way as a means of trying to just 'shake off' that which they are obviously not willing to accept about themselves.

OBVIOUSLY!!!!!!

When you really get right down to the nitty-gritty of it all - it just makes perfect sense!

Bottom line: "They" just do nothing more than simply expose themselves in such a way that it just might take their feeble and moronic minds a few years from now to completely and entirely comprehend the exact scope and depth and nature and intentions of their childish behaviors.......and by then, I would seriously doubt if any of us would or could or would want to even remember this entire mess to begin with!

You feel me?

Geesh, Louise - what fricking MORANS already!!!!!!!

That sounds like the westboro baptist church. They are a very small but very loud group of hateful people and they are all a family. The Phelps. I do not recognize them as Christians.

I think just because they say they are Christians doesn't make it so. "Ye shall know then by their fruits". A lemon can only produce a lemon unless hybrid with another kind of fruit and even then, the lemon will always come through. When you meet the true Christ like folks, you will not need banners to know them. It will be clear.

Bitsy,

I did have a good time. The parade is always entertaining. It really isn't much different for me than Mardi Gras.

I always run into folks that I haven't seen in years and catch up with friends who live in other states that I don't get to see often.

I have come to expect (how sad is that) protestors around any kind of party weekend, but it was really unsettling to see the signs with some many other animals and types of people that these people believe Gad hates.

fantas,

I like that; sort of like living by example means you don't need to talk about what you do, you demonstate it.

Cary, I have to confess to you that I have been in NOLA three different Labor Day Weekends. I am very open minded about homosexuality. I have a cousin, a nephew, a stepbrother, and a really good friend, and some acquaintances who are all gay. I found some of the things that go on in New Orleans during this weekend disturbing. I don't walk around with the butt cut out of my jeans, that are too tight, while my lover leads me around with a leather collar and chain. I also have had the experience of being the only female in a restaurant and knowing I was the only straight person in the restaurant, so I have felt a little of what it must be like to be gay in a straight world when I was straight in a gay world;) Of course the fact that the restaurant served a Po'Girl instead of a Po'Boy should have been my first clue.

I don't think God hates you. He made you.

Bitsy,

I hear you, and you would never see me behave that way either. I am fairly conservative about sex and relationships (I have seen the same behavior in the heterosexual community in Key West and Las Vegas.)The home leather S&M scene isn't exclusive to gay folks. I usually just keep walking if I don't want to see it.

The weekend isn't about religion and the folks who protest usually drive in to the city to do so. My point was more about the surprise I felt when seeing these big sign with "GOD HATES" and a list of most all things that weren't white heterosexual and male.

I live in a large city and am shocked when I see folks who call themselves Christian protesting at High School football games, concerts, etc. Certainly there are betters uses of time and resources than to come in to the city and protest. How about coming in to the city and working with the homeless, or cleaning up? Maybe something constructive?

Caraway,

I am in complete agreement with you. We, who profess to be Christians, should be doing something constructive and actively merciful to tangibly assist those in need, rather than carrying protest signs outside of abortion clinics or durinjg public parades, etc.

No wonder left-wing fundamentalists get a bad rap. Such behavior deserves it.

Hate moves and subjugates people. The more people who hate, the more power those who profess it have.
