Hi everyone,

I am finding it difficult to fight "fear".

Today I was speaking to someone who gave me a tip. The tip was to speak to my fear as a third person instead of allowing myself to feal subordinate to the fear.

This way, I am being the boss over fear, it is not the boss over me.

Is anyone familiar with this method of self help? I would like to hear your experiences.

So long for now.

fear cannot be wished away or hoped away ,it must be comfronted and delt with.fear stands for false evidence appearing real.{Fear not} simply means don't run .satan sends fear to torment us into being doubtful and miserable .I ask God to fight my battles an pray about everything and fear nothing.{Isaiah 41;10,13 }Fear not I will help you! I think that speaking to your fear as if it was a third person might help you to break the cycle of being afraid of being afraid of....

This is not a solution, but it might help to get a grip on things, while you sort out what you are afraid of, why, and what are your other options.

They say "monsters live in the dark". By naming that which you are afraid of, you are bringing it into the light of day.

Also by referring to it in the third person, it allows a mental separation between "me" and "it". Seems a sensible approach to me- one I've used in other parts of my recovery.

I battled my fear early on in my recovery...this is what I did (it may sound silly- thank God this site is anonymous! haha)

I made peace with the fact that the fear was there, so that when it reared it's head, rather than panicking, I would just say "Oh yes, there you are fear. I know you, and I know you're just a feeling- you can't really hurt me"

To do this (bear with me) I would picture a sleeping tiger...every so often it would wake up and roar! If I tried to pretend the tiger wasn't there, then I would get the shit scared out of me every time it roared! By remembering that it existed, I wasn't so freaked out when it woke up, and tried to remember that it would go back to sleep again!

So...for me....acknowledging the existence of fear, and remembering that it was only a passing feeling, just like all other feelings pass, went a long way towards helping me face my fears and battle them successfully!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the responce.

"twinks", I have learnt to do reiki and was afraid that I had gone against God's will because my upbringing was very dogmatic.

"tomgirl", I believe that I had an attack from lucifer to give me doubts. I choose to put my trust in God again and realised that it is his power working through me.

"kc30", thanks for your encouragement. I liked the idea of the sleeping tiger who would roar every now and then. I am also recovering - can you advise a web site which can give such sound advise when dealing with fears?

Trusting in God for everything and all the time is where I want to be be. But, in reality it just isn't possible for me.

Am I expecting too much? Perhaps my expectations are't real?

Oasis - WE all struggle with fear, so you're not alone!

The best way to stay away from fear is by memorizing biblical verses, quotes, inspiring proverbs and praisng God thru hymns, prayers, poems, church going, community of believers, listening to sermons, reading the Bible and some other Christian books.

Fear and confusion are both quite normal and I was told they even attack the most strong and spiritual peopel among us.

Here are some quotes that can help:

Whenever I am afraid; I will trust in You.

Every follower of Jesus Christ must fight fear with faith.

And as you rightly said:

Fear is false evidence appearing real.

I will keep you in my prayers!
