Weeds
are just plants that you don't want growing where they are. There
are several plants I grow in my garden that most consider weeds, I
like them because they attract certain butterflies or beetles that
I like to have around.

Until I moved to
Texas I never used herbicide. I always was able to control weeds by
pulling them or planting desirable plants that would outcompete
them as well as covering the ground with mulch, cardboard,
newspaper, old stripes of vinyl or carpet flooring, boards or other
bits of trash that would starve them out. But all that depends on
what is around and what you and your neighboors will
tolerate.

A method that
worked very well in moister areas, such as South Carolina, was to
pull all the weeds in a bed so only the desirable plants remained.
Then place layers of cardboard and/or newspaper on the ground and
keep wetting with a hose to prevent the wind from making a huge
mess, then cover with a thick layer of mulch. The paper and
cardboard would breakdown into mulch and need to be replaced, but
it would help keep the weeds down for quite a while.

Where I am now I
use lots of Round-up because the guinea grass is just that invasive
and horrid. I don't know any other way to keep it somewhat under
control and even with Round up it takes over in a matter of months
if I don't stay on top of it. If anyone has any suggestions I'm
open to them.

I
tell ya, I'm getting obsessed with this pond thing! The sand I got
from the dunes at the beach, so I guess it was salt. But I thought
salt was good for freshwater fish as many times at pet stores I see
little bowls of salt in the tanks.

I'm determined to
get this right and have a cool fountain/pond on my porch
🙂

Hope you're having
a happy day BF girl

You
too andii...I am sorry about your pond...you seem so passionate
about it and from what you said...its been a long project for you?
I have an hillside that has a deck designed into it...I am thinking
of trying to install a water fall down around it....I am thinking
of going to home depot and seeing if this is possible and how much
it would cost...since money is scarce...I would be doing it
myself..but am fine with that:) How are you doing andii?

A
hillside with a waterfall and pond? BFgirl that would be so
awesome! I have a flat yard, no hillside 🙁 I saw this wine barrel
fountain pond thing and got it and yes it's become a passion! Or
maybe an obsession...I just want to make something that friggin
works! I think this comes from work. It's really stressful as I
need to create new designs and such and it's tapping my brain. I'm
mentally exhausted and beginning to feel overwhelmed. I come home
and just want to escape. Went to the gym yesterday and ran and ran
and ran on the treadmill, don't usually do that, usually just walk,
then I hit weights for almost an hour. Kicked my butt and felt
great but now I'm sore of course. And my divorce has come to a
stall but once again. That weighs on my mind but is rarely in the
forefront due to work. I need to retire lol

thanks for asking
BF girl that felt good.

Oh
Andii your very welcomed:) I think its very important for us to
have a passion in life, I need one actually, and maybe you needed
to do that, you needed to burn that energy that was draining you
and get it out of your body? I can imagine how you feel about your
divorce, I know that is one of the top stressors in life, along
with death...so its good to do that for yourself, to work out, to
have your passions, to vent or else it can trap inside of us and
cause disease, I am a firm believer in that theory! We are going to
meet my real life friend and her daughter today for lunch and then
we are going to the pool! First time this year! YEA! The pond thing
sounds very complex, but worth the trouble I believe, I love
fountains, ponds and gardens, and I need to figure something out
too, before summer ends! (((Andii)) have a wonderful
day!

Hi
all,

Gardening can be
like therapy to me. I've always loved Water Lilly's, so I bought
this big ol pot a few years ago to use for Water Lilly's.
Unfortunately my son decided to use it to rise out the chemicals
from his silk screening adventure. When I got home and saw that I
was like; "Are you Kidding Me?" So I have yet to plant anything.
It's a great pot too.

Before I forget, a
friend of mine suggested an all natural weed killer that she swears
by. It's called "Burnout ll". The main ingredients are citric acid
& clove oil. Very "Green". Here's the web site:

Happy
Gardening!

It's
a type of printing method you can use on fabric. He was printing on
T-shirts.
