Hi OMW
Masons are most definitely NOT evil. Catholics often make this accusation- there's a history there of opposition to one another. Masonic meetings are closed, meaning only Masons can be there, and there is ritual work. The "work" consists of memorizing parts of the Bible and reciting it, walking certain ways, such as never crossing between the East and the Bible, and there are symbols, such as the eye of the masons, etc.
It's not a "faith" per se. One must believe in God- only religious requirement. Masons are worldwide, kuz any of the Holy books will do- the Koran for instance. The Masonic organization is highly spirtitual, and very, very, good.
Yes, many Presidents are/were Masons, including many of our forefathers. Masonic symbols are everywhere- including on our money. There are some things learned in freemasonry that a Mason will never reveal to one outside of Masonry. My grandpa was high- 32nd degree, one degree before being a Shriner. He spoke to me in depth about freemasonry only after I had been installed into Job's Daughters.
I've googled Masonry and researched- yes, there are many things that are kept within the Masonic family.
I used to wonder why- why the secrets?
Because, OMW, they have no value unless discovered on your own. If told, then the person you are telling it to will never have the opportunity to discover these things on their own. It is a disservice to share all of freemasonry with another, and hurtful. Because when these "secrets" are discovered through the work required of Masons, the reward is tremendous. Only then, can it have value. Otherwise, it's just a point to debate and discuss. Then tossed aside, with all other philosophical debates. But when discovered on your own, they become a part of you.
One can often adequately judge a group of people by their actions.
The Masons are the framework, the foundation, for the Shriners. Stating the obvious: the Shriners are anything BUT evil. They are very, very, good.
I'll share with you some of the things I learned from Job's daughters, but more importantly from my grandfather, a very wise and good man.
I'm being called right now- be back shortly.
