I was
wondering what you all thought of facebook, I am enjoying most of
what is on there, seeing how peoples lives turned out and etc has
been alot of fun. Then there are people who seem nice till their
claws come out and say off things to you and then act like they
have no idea what you are referring too. I am wondering...what to
do...seems more like fakebook to me lately.

I've
also experienced a shitload of trouble on Facebook, but I wouldn't
get rid of it. Sometimes seeing someone's words in print is the
push I've needed to say "you know, it may not be good for me to
keep this person in my life any longer."

delete a few, but I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt...for
what..I have no idea!

Facebook is voyeuristic and opportunistic.HUman nature to watch
others and look for validation.

I think it can be
a negative distraction. The games and aps are time consuming and
keep people from living authentically. Our expectations get in the
way.

Lots of people
have a page and never post. Some post almost every day. Some use it
to self promote and NEVER offer support to others. Some use the
group features to spread the "word" whatever is important to them
etc. I like seeing who is on the same page as me when i share a
group site, hehe, but it depends if they are "active" or
not.

I focus on the
commonality not what divides.

Everythin u do is
seen unless u adjust your options, so FILTERING certain things may
be necessary.

Each "friend" i
have on my list is different and i accept their style as long as
they aren't too insensitive. Most of the people i know won't post
personal attacks or accusations on a wall. Private email is used
for deeply personal private stuff. Some of my Friends i actually
see in real life. I doubt i could handle F-book if i didn't. Either
way F-Book is just a reflection in a way, and a tool. It doesn't
replace real relationships at all. U figure out who has common
courtesy, a balanced attitude and respect by what they post in
public.

We get what we put
in for the most part.

There is the
"REMOVE" feature....if i need to use it i do, then move on. It
isn't worth dwelling on the negative, with personal fallouts, or ya
attract more. I removed my sister and brother from my friend list,
and one guy who contacted me, then got obnoxious.

crystalwaters has
the right idea.People show their colours and some just don't fit
with your "palette".

I did
not see the movie about how facebook got started... I would like to
see it. From what I have seen they do share too much info and you
always have to check your settings and cut it back. I am very
careful about what I share and do not write anything that would
hurt me should I run for president...hahah

MsGuided...there's a lot in your post to like, but I wanted to
thank you for especially sharing how you unfriended your siblings.
My brother is an alcoholic who posts terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE
vile things up there...and does NOT keep his profile private, he
keeps it wide open, and so I'm sure his estranged teenage sons have
been to his profile and seen it. My sister enables by commenting on
his shit. I had to disconnect from them, but people look at me as
the "radical" weird one for having done so.

Your post makes me
feel less alone. Thank you. And thanks for complimenting
mine.

I am
having fun...I made 65 friends..for me that is huge! I always been
kinda of alone most my life...I see it as a learning tool about
people...I like having random discussions with several people at a
time...I think I have an interesting mix of people on my list...I
am going to meet a few in person soon...a neighbor actually and a
few from hs... Its weird cause I never knew these people...I knew
no one! Was scared of people...not so much able. I grew up and I
feel stronger now to interact...

I've
been prompted on FB as to whether or not I wanted to forward a
particular link. Accused of being a primate (literally) for wanting
to do so. I'm not kidding here. People ARE being watched there. You
can count on it. Data-mining is going on at the hands of the
government - big-time! Be very careful as to what you say or do on
there.

BFG,
what is tempting about deleting the few you're thinking of
deleting? Sometimes people's posts piss me off and it is enough for
me to hide them on my feed. My main reason for deleting people is
that I don't want them to have access to my day-to-day (I am one of
those people who posts a lot, at least sometimes).

I too have had the
pleasure of meeting up with former classmates, etc. in person and
it's been great. I've also met new people. I had a bad experience
with a friend's husband which I wrote about on the other side and
which I will try and pull back up.

As far as
data-mining -- the only way to avoid that entirely is to not use
the internet at all. It's not a "Facebook issue" any more than the
Craigslist killings were a "Craigslist issue."

I'm
not going to live in complete fear. I don't post everything i
think, tend to keep it light, but i won't give up this convenient
communication tool with REAL people.

If those elitist
psychopaths can prance around Bohemian grove, politicians can hold
secret meetings, and the rich can express however they please, then
i'm going to share with my PEEPS! I'm not going to be scared into a
vacuum of silence.

The
"peeps" should shut their collective peepers! hardy-har

I believe their
focus (the ruling elite's)is more on group leaders. Not individuals
so much. We aren't much of a threat. But they do wish that we'd all
just shut the Fk up about it, I'm sure.

Crystal,

You're right. The
mining isn't restricted to FB. Just that it's such a popular social
platform. The bulk of online yappin seems to be done
there.

Wow...interesting conversation...esp about the "elitists" Mmmm.
Today is my bday...and it was nice to hear so many well wishes this
am...that can go two ways cause some are just chatting away...not
saying anything, that I thought would! Oh well. Last night
something very interesting came up...an old classmate of mine
commented on my comment about religion and abuse...she texted
me...she did not know my story cause I just put an blanket of info
out there, usually the ones who "get it" will email me. My heart
broke...we could be twins...we are actually going to meet in person
and have lunch...it was mind blowing...I think we can both help
each other...I am looking forward to giving her a big hug and
telling her all will be ok:)

I
started Facebook only to be able to see the pics of themselves that
my nieces post on theirs. I stalk them - hahaha. We have one friend
in common - my mom. dammmmit. Always needing the last word, the
final say, she posts on their wall or photos, only after I do. It
creeps me out, so I quit posting. She's on it all the
time.

She never calls
me, but makes this big deal out of posting to me - asking how I am.
The last thing I posted back to her was.. I have a phone. I can't
unfriend her, so I'm stuck with a stilted Facebook page, until I
decide to delete it. I don't know if I'll do that just yet. I have
been able to "connect" with some folks I haven't seen in a while.
See pictures of kids' weddings, grandbabies that I would otherwise
physically have to visit with the person to see.

But MsG is right -
in person is better.

Crystalwaters,

Because my nieces
and the rest of the family would HEAR about it. I don't care if
they know, but it would become big drama for them, and they don't
deserve that.

All I do is say hi
to the lil girls, and look at their pictures. One lives 6 hours
from me, and the other 12. 🙁

I
love FB- I have reconnected with high school friends, college
friends, and family (the ones I choose to have contact with). I
keep my privacy settings set so that friends only can see my
profile info. I also made it so I can't be searched by "search
engines" like google and such. I also am friends with all four of
my kids, which is a great thing- especially the ones that away at
school.

It's my own little
personal network, and no one can penetrate it unless they friend
request me.

bfg,

Well, I'm not
privy to their actual list of targets but, any freethinker with a
following would be in their sights I'm sure. Plenty of them around
these days. You gotta know that they are being monitored/f'd
with.

The 1st act of
rebellion is free thought. Can't have people putting their thinkin
caps on!

That
could be why the movement of community seems to be the thing to do
right now... I see a lot of young people and old too wearing..a
shirt that says.. Unity, community and faith... Which in itself
does not seem bad... But unifying people into working for
free...with faith...scares me.

Looking for some input here -- my alcoholic brother is
badmouthing me on Facebook. I unfriended him a couple of months ago
and told him I did not want him to contact me until he got help. He
was speaking (writing) to me in a very abusive tone. I felt bad
telling him not to contact with me, because he has stated before
that I am one of the most important people in his life and a voice
of reason, but his behavior is not new. He's lapsed into shit like
this since high school and we're now in our mid to late 30s. He
posts disgusting things on his page, ignores his children leaving
them to grow up with just their abusive mother and her parade of
assholes, and his profile is wide open where the three teens could
easily see it if they were searching for information about their
intentionally absent father.

Someone wrote on
his page in response to a disgusting depiction of sexual torture he
posted: "Oh now I see why Crystal unfriended you, LOL". His
response: "Yeah, some people take shit too damn
seriously."

What the fuck does
"LOL" have to do with any of this? Are we REALLY, at over 35 years
old, that assimilated into text-speak that a girl who is a
brand-new and very good mother responds to an alcoholic's
disgusting depiction of sexual violence with a "LOL"?

Obviously I can't
stop my brother from posting -- even about me -- but I am at a loss
as to how to handle the fact that he is doing so. If anyone has any
ideas, I'd love to hear them...
