"From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

This is so funny. Of coarse Elton John would say that he would bann religion completely because Elton John act like and thinks his god.

I always laugh when reading in the paper about another tantrum he had. His like a spoiled brat and acts like a 2 year old.
"It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

What utter buls..t.

For him yes, because he is a anti authority person. He is above the law and above anything that breaths.

Its his way or the hiway.

just my thoughts

garfield,

What makes you think he thinks he's above the law? The law in history has been at times pretty silly too (if you really think about it). You know, those silly laws in some states that still exist like you cant ride a horse on Sunday at 3pm and stuff like that.

All religions basically say "follow me, for a better way of life. If you dont, you're a loser" (and you'll burn in hell, for example). - thats what they say, all of them in different ways. This certainly people turns people into hateful lemmings, to _varying_ degrees.

Religion says "Trust me, dont trust your own judgement". So even in Bhuddism, even though Bhuddists will deny it, they will always have the subtle "my religion is better than yours" air about them. Well dont athiests think they're better than others? Whats the smart answer to that? I dont know. I think we're clean. We believe there's no need to have any kind of religion. Anyway. He was right on target. We live in a caveman society still, relatively. Gays are not accepted and seen as normal by the majority of people nowadays, thats the truth. This will change as time goes.

Yes I like some of songs (I havent heard them all so I dont know). I havent heard all of them. I used to love Nikita when I was small. I remember the video hehe. The russian girl in the snow. gosh. Old days. Ah, I need to download his duet with Goerge Micahel "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", a great positive song. I forgot about that song.

Elton John
John Wants Religion Banned

AP / Ryan Remiorz, CP

Sir Elton John has blasted the religions of the world, claiming followers are encouraged to hate gays.

The veteran singer/songwriter, who married his longtime partner David Furnish in a civil ceremony last December, claims organized religion only works to chastise homosexuality and convince people it's wrong.

He says, "I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays.

"I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn't seem to work.

"It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

Religious followers are incouraged to hate gays. Please explain how this could be possible.

>> "Religious followers are incouraged to hate gays. Please explain how this could be possible." < < Because the bible says a marriage is between a man and a woman. There are many incidents of religious leaders saying things like homosexuality is evil etc. That translates to dislike of varying degrees which means, a religious follower may not care about it, or they may dislike it slightly, or they might think its something that God hates, or something that'll make them end up in Hellfire. Stuff like that. The bottomline: Bible has declared homosexuality as evil and undesireable. That effects the follower's attitudes too - needless to say.

"Because the bible says a marriage is between a man and a woman. "

Actually what it says is that gays should be stoned to death.

Which is one reason I say that you can't necessarily understand Christianity by just "reading the bible."

That's also why it pays to apply some critical thinking to the teachings of the modern mainstream...Christianity, for example, rather than just accept it all as "gospel." I am so funny.

I like Elton as a musician, and don't think Jesus gives a hoot about wheter he is gay or not.

My main problem with Elton, is that he was mean to Tina Turner.

Don't forget Madonna

Sir Elton attacks 'mime' Madonna

Sir Elton objected to Madonna's nomination for a live award
Sir Elton John has accused Madonna of cheating fans by miming on stage, while collecting a Q Award for songwriting.
As he collected his Classic Songwriter prize in London on Monday, he criticised live award nominee Madonna.

"Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay £75 to see them should be shot," Sir Elton said.

Muse won best live act while the Red Hot Chili Peppers won best act in the world and Roxy Music took the Lifetime Achievement award from Q magazine.

Liz Rosenberg, Madonna's US press agent, denied that the star used lip-synching when performing live.

"Nor does she spend her time trashing other artists," she said.

"She sang every note on her Re-invention tour live."

Elton John said his comments would mean he would no longer be on Madonna's Christmas card list.
