i went to see the davinci code tonight, i had to walk through a pretty big picket of people against the movie and the theater showing it. after i got in the theatre, i noticed half the people in there with me had bought tickets for mission impossible. i am one of the few that stated loud and clear what i was seeing. i am very surprised at the people, esp the men, who let the picket bother them enough to pretend to see something else. some of them i knew, i lost alot of respect for them for being cowardly.....what would u think if u saw someone doing this? do u agree or disagree with their actions?

i didn't start the thread to discuss the morality of the movie, but to bring up how a group of people could so influence someone to hide what they were doing. it just surprised the heck out of me.

I's say; "guess they cannot stand strong for what they want and are influenced by other's opinions of them".

Then I 'd say under my breath; "and I worrry about being with some codependency ; guess I am pretty well off after all!"

They must all be codependents, gup!!!!

(WHOOPS!!! This goes withthe post above!)

Gup,

Gays and lesbians have been having to deal with this for decades...

Having to hide who we are and what we do, because groups of people do not agree or do not like our choices or lifestyle.

I guess I am used to it...

I am very OUT, but still at times I hold back, not out of fear, really, but simple because I do not want to have to deal with it... I am tired of fighting!

Everyone needs to stand up for what they believe in, but sometimes, it is easier to just fly under the radar.

They protested at "Brokeback Mountain" too.

Just another example of Christians throwing their weight and beliefs around to browbeat people into shamefull submission.

It is a movie, for God sakes...supposed to be fiction!

If they worked half as hard at spreading peace, tolerance, and harmony as they do at spreading dissention, hate, and fear, this world would be a much better place!

"Why can't we all just get along!"

Live and let live....I mean really, what is the big deal about a movie, there are lots of movies out there with premarital sex, murder, rape, divorce, EATING SHELL FISH, EATING PORK, Women cutting thier hair... If they are gonna pick on one, why not pick on them all....

Is one "sin" greater than another...I thought not!

Hypocracy at it's finest!!!

The movie got so so reviews, but I thought it was a nice mystery/action/thriller type of movie. Total mind candy, entertainment.

Don't people have better things to picket over?

Well said. I'm 100% with you on this.

However contrary to my deepest wish to be otherwise, I am very homophobic. I fully recognize that this is MY problem and has nothing to do with the homosexual community. This homophobia potentially the same. Of course I know that this is just as irrational as having several experiences with heterosexual predators justifies women thinking that all men are the same in this regard.

Still I react badly when guys throw there arms around me in some kind of male bonding. I even offended a European guy who innocently did that when I pulled away with a grimace on my face.

If you give me all the reasons in the world why I should not be like this, I will agree with you completely and honestly. Yet my emotions will tell me a different story!

This is just one of the many reasons why I am soooo interested in the emotions and their interplay with our senses and our cognitions.

Likewise emotions can drive normally good Christian people to react so irrationally and so badly to what they perceive is a threat to their beliefs.

Whoops, the editor lopped out a large chunk of my posting between "This homophobia" and "potentially the same".

Oh well ... it wasn't meant to be posted, I guess. I'll take the hint from my unconscious. 🙂

Today, a co-worker told me that he's been to see this movie during the last weeek-end and the movie lasted for 2 hours and 1/2 during which he got bored and took a nap.

I'm wondering if this movie is worth all the trouble, noise and hassle everyone is making!

guppy,

Harry Potter is good clean fun to me. I read the first five books and saw the first movie. I saw nothing to object to in it.
