Looking back I see so many times when things could have been different but they went another way.  I also see that much of what happened was inevitable.  I wonder how and why life is like that.  Does anyone have anything to say about this?  If yes, please let me know.

Hello oneday are you still loving life? Are you still working nights at the psychiatric ward? I do have something to say about your post could you please be more specific and share with us what specific event in your past that you are refering to?

Where do  you get the idea that I work in a psychiatric ward or is that  your idea of a cute joke?  I will not be specific because its not necessary and I am very selective with whom I share the personal details of my past, present or future endeavours.  Why is it so impossible for you to believe that in my life experience I have witnessed this type of abuse time and again?  Do you think its fun to be amongst people who are cruel?  Stop assuming that just because I don't give you "specifics" and use this site to dump my personal soap opera of life that my life is any different or complex or as interesting as anyone elses.  Specifically I happen to have three children that I raise on my own, specifically I have in my opinion an important job which may involve psychology at times, yes.  Why do you need the details?  Yes, I do have trust issues and had you worn my shoes for the last 20 years so would you.  You would never believe the specifics of what I have endured anyways.  Did you ever once think that maybe I can't give you specifics because it would hurt others?  Do you think that everyone in the world has a similar life?

Some of us need to remain silent on specifics.  It is not life that I don't love, its some of the really nasty people in this life who cannot just try to look at their own life and leave others to do the same.  Again, you saying are you still loving life is not a cute attempt at humour in my opinion.  If my life was peachy all the time something would be rather wrong so stop pretending that yours and everyone else is.  If we did not have troubles then why would we be on this site?

I was trying to say that I wish things had been different and ended up differently for me.  That I am sad that stuff that happened, happened.  I cannot change what others do and did.  I have the right to say that.  I do not try to influence the decisions of others, but because they did not choose to be loyal, honest, supportive, etc. when they should have been and when I was to them, it turned out sad for me.  It's not my fault that people use people.  That they take a person who is honest and caring and treat them like dirt.

So please stop with your idea of humour.  Could you maybe show some respect?

Goodbye stupid people.  Enjoy each other & your true honest selves.  Me, I have learned that I am just a dishonest, untrusting soul that does not belong amongst such wonderfully trusting and honest people.

Thank you dear teacher for telling me all about myself.  Without I would be lost and I would be spending all my days being dishonest and torturing people.  Know I am so enlightened.

Your question is profoundly thought provoking. Quite often life is like watching a train wreck. Once the train gets rolling, no matter how hard we try to stop it, there is little we can do- the crash is inevitable. I don't think it's black and white; methinks part of life is chance, and the rest is choice.

'Destiny is not a matter of chance, it's a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for it's a thing to be acheived.' William Jennings Bryan

'You often meet your destiny on the road you've taken to avoid it.' French Proverb (and a quote from Kung Fu Panda 2)

It's the story of my life.

Isis,

thank you for your post.  I am very torn between this choice/chance question.  I know that I should not push or pull anyone in any direction, but at the same time its hard to know when to speak and when to be silent.  It's like when a loved one passes away and you don't get to say goodbye & then you regret not having said the things you really wanted to say when they were alive.  Makes you wonder do we sit back and just let things happen or do we try to impose our feelings and thoughts onto others.

You need to own your choices and mistakes, and be willing to take the necessary steps to improve upon them. If you don't take accountability for your life, someone else will.  when they do, you will become a slave to their ideas and dreams, instead of a captain of  your own ship. You are the only one who can directly control your own life. Of course, it won't always be easy, but you must take accountability for your situation and overcome personal obstacles. Choosing not to is choosing a life time of mere existence.

Well RaceBannon it's a very lonely existence in my case then.  Yes, at least I am living my own life and doing what I need to do and can do in a fashion that is respectful to myself & to those I am responsible for, but we still continue to have to deal with a world full of people that try to hurt us in the most brutal ways possible and that is not entirely fair if you ask me.

If we have given up hope in putting any faith in these people then we have a right to feel that way and behave accordingly.  I know it is terribly hard perhaps for anyone to understand specifically what I am saying.  You honestly would need to be living here with us for a long while to understand this situation for what it is worth.

I try to keep it happy for the sake of the others, but they are sick and tired of witnessing the actions of many who treat them unfairly and with blatant disrespect.

Enough is Enough.

We don't know what we may be facing tomorrow but we do control our choices. I don't know who said it but we are where we are as a result of all the choices we've made. The only way to change that is to make different and better choices. I read a great article today about settling and the author said:

"I have been places where not a soul has even deserved to know my name
let alone touch me. And yet I've allowed myself to be mishandled by
misguided souls. I've had my kindness distorted into weakness and my
lack of facade used as a weapon against me."

I can so relate to this. I have accepted so much bullshit from others in my life often because of fear. I wanted to be liked and loved so I kept my mouth shut and took what came my way. Now at 51 I find myself still searching for peace and happiness. Every day I have to remind myself to make better choices. To serve my own self interest and hopefully make a life worth living.

Thanks for the insight.  I guess its just difficult to find people of substance.  My belief is that you need to take a stand on who you are & not falter from that notion.  I don't mean that we don't make mistakes, obviously we do on a regular basis, but overall I find that there are not many people who are truly righteous, courageous and stand on a foundation of strong moral ethics.

I really don't need to worry about that anymore though, I just need to live my life in a manner that reflects who I am.  I cannot change what people say or do.  I can just try to carry on the best way I know how.

I really was not speaking to my friends or my enemies.  It's true though, my enemies never believe me and are duumbfounded when they realize that my intentions were good.  My friends rarely take offence if I am speaking about myself.

A garden requires patient labor and attention. Plants do not grow merely to satisfy ambitions or to fulfill good intentions. They thrive because someone expended effort on them.

Life is always unpredictable. No matter how hard you try to make things happen that you want it but if it's not bound to happen that way, it will always go in a different way. As long as you are being yourself and you know that your intentions are pure then I guess there would be no problem at all. Just live the life you want to live and the people around you will just have to bear with it.

The 3 C's of life: choices, chances and changes. You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.

My choice is to take a chance on believing that I have no real control over what tomorrow will bring regardless of the choice I make. My choice is to trust that whatever choice I make whether it changes my life or not is already written. My choice is to choose to do what I know is the right thing based upon what I consider a righteous path. I choose to be responsible for the three children I gave birth to and try to emancipate them into a world where they will hopefully make good choices for themselves and those they love.

The DNA body-brain does indeed carry its own agenda that we as Consciousness-Display-Awareness either blindly serve or wisely operate.

Too slow & mentally challenged to even presume to understand what book you are quoting from this time MADD. You are so elitist in your understanding of everything that someone as feeble minded as I am cannot comprehend not even an iota of what you are trying to teach. I hope all the other readers are learning from your vast knowledge of the human condition and how to solve our predicaments. You must be an angel. So learned and eager to assist.
