Any other Native Americans out there who have a problem with our "Founding Fathers?"

If so, I will direct you to a site: http://www.collectionsetc.com which has a T-Shirt entitled: "The Original Founding Fathers" designed by David C. Behrens which illustrates the Great American Indian Leaders: Chief Joesph, Sitting Bull, Geronimo and Red Cloud on the front of the tee.

I have an older catalog of this (Early Spring, 2007) which did not list it under the thumbnail of clothing...but you can order it from entering in the item number:

310-78-78119 - Medium (38-40)
310-78-78120 - Large (42-44)
310-78-78121 - X-Large (46-48)
310-78-78122 - XX - Large (50-52)

I have no personal involvemnet with this site other than it is one of the few places where I can purchase and wear something near and dear to my heart notwithstanding the current July 4th holiday which is fastly approaching.

FYI from a part Iroquois poster.

I hope you don't mind me responding since I am not Native American. I think the t-shirt is great. I teach history and have trouble teaching certain areas of history without tears coming to my eyes. It is also amazing how the books have changed since I was in school myself. It saddens me how horribly people have been treated in the past and how it still continues. I know I am rambling here, but just felt a tug towards this thread.

ggfred4,

I don't mind you responding at all!

Thanks for your post.

(Incidentally, I saw a little snipit from a comedian on the TV which sort of caught my eye...he said (with all of the talk nowadays about "immigration" in the US) what if the Indians said the same thing to the "New World 'Explorers'" and told Columbus (and other "Conquistadors" and their crew)....sorry - your passport is invalid. No illegal immigrants wanted!!!!!!! Just go on back where you came from............and leave your biological plague to yourselves..............

This county (the US) in only 250 years or so is but a drop in the bucket compared to the REAL history of the land............

Thanks gg for following your heart.

Sure do hope that the textbooks have changed since my exposure in the late 60's/early 70's!!!!!

TruthB

Thanks for the reference to the site. I do thanksgiving, only because it's a tradition and free food, but Columbus day kind of gets my goat.

jv63-

I have seen that HOMELAND SECURITY t-shirt too. They sell it downtown where I live and it's awesome. It really makes a big statement about history AND current events.

(I'm not native american, but I have a big problem the way history is told. I am a librarian and books today are still pretty biased, and as many books about Native Americans we have on the shelf- too many about American History are pretty biased. People underestimate kids. Kids can handle the truth better than adults can about somethings. It's a shame to start them off with a warped view of things.

Ella,

I am a history teacher and I have seen the biased books. They have gotten better, but still need improvement. The book I have to use actually states that the first immigrants were the Native Americans, but when it talks about settlers, here comes the Europeans. Yet, the Native American chapters talk about where the Native Americans settled, so weren't they also the first settlers? Some were not hunters and gatherers.

I am amazed how much history is left out, for ex., I was never taught about internment camps during W.W.II. I didn't learn about the Holocaust until my 20's. Like you said, children can handle the truth.

It doesn't bother me on the 4th of July.

I save it for Columbus day.

Also know as Indigenous People's Day.

Maybe I forgot...

By American Kennel Club standards, I am a mongrel, but I recognize that I am also Comanche, with many relations--I know the White Buffalo Woman.
