Hi,

OK so I'm in my thirties...which means that instead of going out clubbing every weekend I usually have to go to a friend or work colleagues wedding...and what an expensive occasion that is!
So, I'm strapped for cash at the moment, I'm trying to clear off my loans for the last six months, so I have really tightened the purse strings as I'm so sick of being in debt!
Now, the 4th wedding of 2005 is coming up this friday, its a really really good friend of mine from northern ireland and she's such a lovely sweet funny person that I really would like to get her a nice present, but I have very little cash to spend on it.
So...has anyone got a good idea for this? I have to travel up north so something huge is not viable!!
My friend and her soon to be husband already live together here in dublin, so housewares aren't really an option either!

Make a small donation to a charity in their name? They get a card from the charity that doesn't specify the amount, just that you did it.

I asked for donations to 5 charities instead of wedding presents, when I got married. I think it's more thoughtful, and a better idea for older more established couples that already have their housewares in order.

Photo albums. People always forget to ask for photo albums and always need them.

Thanks, thanks and thanks! I like all those ideas. Will look for the books, will look for a deserving charity, will look for a nice photo album...and then decide which to get.

Gosh this place not only sorts out your head it also saves you money!

I'm off now to my sister the hairdresser to get my hair sorted out and then tomorrow I'll check these out then later it's off to Ballymena Co. Antrim for the wedding, so I'll talk to yiz all on monday. Take care!

xx

I agree with all of the above.

When we got married, a friend gave us a really nice photo album with a silver front that you could put a photo in - which became the album cover. We used that to put candid shots from our wedding in.

Later on, I bought one for a friend of mine when she got married, and it was less than $20.00.

Good luck.

Z.

Yeah, and you could nestle it in a wire basket from a dollar store with a disposable camera and some silver curling ribbon, maybe even toss a couple of hersheys kisses in it, gives it a proffessional gift basket look for only a few dollars more.

I'm so lame, this sort of thing really excites me!

Hello!

Well, I used a few of your ideas in the end!
I set myself to a budget.
I got a lovely leather bound photo album and then couldn't resist getting two matching photo frames. I think she'll really like them. Then I did the charity thing as well for the last 10euro's...didn't have enough left over for the books (But will use that idea again) and unfortunately, you can't get Hersey's kisses in Ireland, but I have tasted them and they are so moreish!!

The wedding was fab! The bride giggled all the way up the aisle and she looked just stunning! At the reception, the bride and groom were so happy and I don't think there was anytime during the night that either one or both of them were not on the dancefloor! So nice to see to people really really ENJOY their wedding day!!

Ahhhhh romance! Don't you just love it!
