guest, I'll answer your mouse question.

you said

"- 99% of your cookies were stolen by mice with a spotted ear.

- Your cookie is stolen again.

- Who do you suspect stole this recent cookie? Are all mice to be suspected equally? "

my answer, if you're interested:

I suspect the spotted-eared mice stole the cookie. all mice are not to be suspected equally in this case. I would suspect a spotted mouse or meeces stole the cookie.

Now I ask you guest: does that justify treating all spotted mice as criminals? should we exterminate all of them to ensure that no more cookies will be stolen? If so, what could be the possible repurcussions?

such as, maybe you exterminated the spotted mouse that would have discovered the cure for cancer had he not encountered somebody who refused to be just.

Hitler lost WWII that way.

Einstein was a jew. He fled Germany while working on the atom bomb.

He fled to a just country. Well, maybe not a just country, but a country that at least tries to be just.

kinda anyways.

Hey Free!

You kinda dropped this load in our laps and we lost ya for a while! But it's good to have you back.

Yeah, people have always seemed to use a lot of their ingenuity to hurt each other throughout history, unfortunately. It seems that there are few exceptions where humanity hasn't fought fire with fire. I can think of some, but they are rare, so much so that those people are seen as heroes. I agree it's hard to stand by and do nothing when 3000 of your own are dead. But do we want the rest of posterity to live in a changed country with a compromised government, with compromised freedoms?

It's naive I suppose to say such things like: "it's never right to go to war" (look at WWII), "there should be peace on earth," etc... because there never has been and I fear there never will be. Although doesn't War create weaknesses? There are no easy answers for somethings. I think search and seizure of all American Muslims is not only illegal, unjust, impractical and a million other negatives- but also that in itself is a simplistic idea. Unfortunately, it is not a kind one and the implications of that statement are troublesome to say the least.

That you overheard someone say that alone is unsettling. It reflects a mindset in this country that is not uncommon enough, and is somewhat iconoclastic and definitely inhumane. It would be nice to think that the country learns from mistakes in its past, evolves from things like oppressing ethnic and religious groups and society does not regress to old behaviors. Maybe these behaviors are not old at all. Maybe America replaces a level of prejudice and oppression with new rationalizations to marginalize different people. I don't know. It seems people will always find someone to fear or hate for one reason or another.

We have suffered a great tragedy, people have emotionally charged reactions and this is understandable. 9/11 was a vile act, and I still am not over it. But I hope that we can someday deal with this in a way that is less hate-filled because that will consume us as a nation. That will cause more destruction from within than we can see. Treating one group differently from the rest will create discontent, and all the things that such division brings a society. Hatred between groups for one.

If we hate on American Muslims, no matter one's feeling towards American Muslims, they are American. It will be Americans vs. Americans and that won't help us heal, we will just become a fragmented mess.

But when we look back on past exploitation and oppressions of "minorities" and find it embarrassing. Or maybe we are so comfortable where we are now we forget. Many of us have ancestors that were outcast as immigrants at one point. I do. Everything is relative. At the time, it probably seemed justified to folk doing it, they felt threatened, as the guy who says "lets have all American Muslims subject to search and seizure." Scary.

awe wd, I'm blushing. You gave me a big hug! back at ya.

So what should we do about this terrorist thing?

I say the planes are easy. Planes have been hijacked for years, 911 wasn't the first time. But nobody hijacks planes from Israel. How come? So. We do what the Israelis do regarding planes. I wonder what, exactly, that is.

Soldiers being captured in Iraq. That sucks. It holds our country hostage- the torture thing is so brutal. I'll tell ya, it'd be a cold day in hell before I got captured- I figure go out with a bang- taking a few of them with me. But they wouldn't haul me away in a blindfold. We gotta toughen our soldiers up.

Terrorists coming here and going to school. Well, we have immigration laws, how come we don't enforce them? One is supposed to come through Ellis Island or whatever. Kuz we have waves upon waves of Mexicans trying to get across the border? Enforcing immigration laws is like throwing sand at the tide? Well if we can harness the atom, we can harness immigration problems. it doesn't make sense to have, essentially, open borders when we're at war. that's such a duh. ya know?
