Hi all,

I have a dilemma. I've been offered a job, the salary os out of this world. Free accomodation, meals, transport. Its not within the military or the UN, but with a large multinational. salary is tax free and I get three free return flights per year, 3 year contract.

Anyone who's read my posts over on support will know what I've been through, I need a change...a new challenge, something that can take my mind off the past. I am so lonely without my ex, and also losing all my friends because my ex didn't like them, means I've got very few friends left. This would be an opportunity to meet new people. I'd be based in Kabul, where there are lots of foreign nationals working for the UN, press agencies, red cross and multinationals...so it could be a great move...or it might not be. Kidnappings, suicide bombs, taleban radicals....I dunno whether to go for it or not. What would you do? Anyone on here who knows anything about living and working in Kabul???

Rev.,

Hi gf. We have not spoken much this year. I am excited for you. Congrats on the offer.

This is my humble opinion.I would take the offer in Afghanistan. I know that it is scary and all that but war does not always mean a total breakdown. Utmost caution, prayer and strict adherence to the dos and don'ts should keep you safe. Last year, i was considering moving to Iraq (for a job). i did not because i wanted to focus on finishing my phd first. I will say go for it.

Once agin, congrats on the offer.

Rev.,

Amore mio, it is always a pleasure to chat with you. Let me know what you decide ok? I am rooting for you- new challenges, new opportunities and a new way of life. It will be so good for you in your growing process. Many a time, we live in sheltered environments, oblivious to the lives of others and once we take the perspective off us, it helps us in our healing process. But if you decide not to take it, I will respect that too.

Word of caution though: Be extra careful of all the folks working in those zones. It gets scary and crazy out there and sometimes that adds to making people say things they do not mean and vice versa- i learnt this in Sierra Leone.

All the best my dear friend.

Hi! Well, latest update is that I've said I'm interested! So, nect step is that I will be talking to some guy from the UK and ask him questions about living and working there.

I think it could be exciting! I have to get my drivers licence updated though...gonna do that tomorrow. So, I get my own car. Its an 18 month contract intially, but they really want me for three years, now, I don't know if I can manage 3 years, but 18 months would be ok!

Rev.,

I am so glad for you. As I said, use this period to learn all about the dos and don'ts of living in Afghanistan. Don't just learn about the rules of living in Islamic countries- learn the rules of living in Afghanistan. If you have sometime, learn as much of the language as you can.

Be natural and go with the flow of things. As I said, it is scary and all but life still goes on and by all means go get the cash.

All the best. keep me posted.

I think Kabul is probably the nicest and safest place in Afghanistan.

They have the rule of law and everything.

Well, that's what Ive heard.

Rev --

Since you're western person, your country will probably provide you with introductory/preparatory course about life in that country since it's totally different culture from yours.

I wish you all the best and I'm sure it will be a very sepcial experience that will enable you to heal, distract your attention and forget all the sorrow of love you're had with your ex. I pray that God will bring something good out of all this.

(((Hugs & Prayers)))
