Hello, I'm 16 and is in the senior year of my school. Recently, my best friend (let's call her Jane) has joined a group of students in my class to be against me. They insult me behind my back and occasionally say bad things about me on social medias (without clarifying who they are talking about). I've never expected this to happen again since it actually did happen once before two years ago with the same person. Last time, it happened because of a misunderstanding and I lost all my friends. Eventually, I learned to make new friends and don't need them anymore. But when we went into the following year, Jane came to me and asked me to accept her agian, so we became best friends again. Now, I can't believe she'd turn on me again without me even knowing the reason. Jane and the group had only hurt me mentally, they probably wouldn't hurt me physically. I lose concentration while studying and I'm always bothered by their quips and insults. Now, I hang out with a different group of friends, but it didn't stop them from saying bad things about me. It made me very upset because they actually said that I'm an immoral person seeing that they are jealous of my high marks in my examinations. Jane betrayed me and now, she seem likely to be leading that group to hurt my feelings further. I told my parents and teachers about it, but I was told to ignore them. Both my parents and teachers said that I can make it through the year and I'll be free from them. Jane and the group always find faults in me and even if I'm behaving perfectly, they say I'm arrogant and an show-off. I didn't do anything to them. So far, I only followed their steps while trying to fight back. I don't want to become like them and I really want them to stop bullying me. What is there that I can do? Please give me some useful tips!!

Dear Shirley,
I am sorry to hear that these girls are bullying you. It does seem from your explanation that they are somehow jealous of your good nature. I regret to inform you that there are people in this world that somehow get happy by making others sad. Whatever they say or do to you, try your best not to anger. Continue to be yourself. Try when you have a chance to make new friends, but remember that this might happen again. It is not your fault. Whatever you do, rise above these types of people. Never ever become one of them.
