My brother just got back from Iraq. He did see a bit of action over there and has been diagnosed with PTSD. In what ways can PTSD manifest itself? He has the sleeplessness, the anxiety attacks, etc. but I'd like to know what other ways this can manifest itself? Does anyone have any idea?

Flashback memories and recurring bad dreams are pretty common with PTSD. Other things to look for are anger and irritability, and avoidance of anything related to his traumatic experience. Many people with PTSD also turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with their trauma.

My wife has PTSD and she will have dreams she acts out in her sleep. I've been hit many times at night when we are asleep. She doesn't hit hard but she is acting out a nightmare. It's bizarre sometimes. She also will occasionally have flashbacks when she encounters circumstances like she did when the trauma happened. Not only the same, but it could be as little as a sound, or a sight, or a smell. They will all cause flashbacks at times.

PTSD is complicated and you need to be understanding and reassure him that everything is ok. I  have known people with PTSD to become withdrawn and not to want to be around others.

Will PTSD affect the mental aspect of the person? I mean will it result to a mental breakdown if PTSD was not taken under control? What is the best treatment for this kind of illness?
