The bottom line is that the Together Hotline will not survive as a vital service under the current circumstances. It will only survive unless Jane is reinstated, and soon. The Board should know that all current hotline workers, all experienced in crisis intervention, without exception, believe that Jane's firing means the end of the Together Hotline as a worthwhile service. It takes time to explain why this is so because of the unique nature of this work. The answer has to do with training, staffing, experience, supervision, motivation, community outreach, summer schedules, ethical standards, personal relationships, professional goals, protocols, other area hotlines, and the dynamics of having our supervisor, inspiration, friend, mentor, and leader treated like dirt. We are appalled that no one that made this decision knew the impact their action would have on the hotline. We are suspicious that they did in fact know because to us the effects are so obvious. I am really really proud to be associated with the extraordinary people that are FC hotline workers. With Jane back soon, we will be re-energized having re-examined our own committments and having survived this near-death experience. If Jane is not reinstated, we as individuals will be okay. The callers, folks in crisis, will not be okay.
Brian R., hotline 7 years and counting.

Please support the hotline and intake workers who are continuing to work despite Jane's abscence. These individuals deserve a great thanks from the community for sacrifcing their time and energy to help others. If the management can't acknowledge their importance we should. Like Jane has always done, look them straight in the eye and say "thank you."

Don't forget to let the staff know we are behind them too. The chain of events that has led to Jane's dismissal has taken a toll on these individuals. Many have watched this unfolding for years. Let them know you will stick with them until this is worked out.

This whole situation seems extremely surrealistic and it is difficult to fathom how this will be repaired. I know the tremendous talent and genuine care for the patients these staffers have can make this happen. Stick with it you gals (and guys too), I'm with you all the way.
