I heard an expression once, that worked for me: "Love the sinner; hate the sin." I think that sums it up. We can have (and are entitled to have) socially acceptable moral values. All civilized cultures ascribe to certain morals (e.g., in a cannibalistic society, broiling the enemy and eating him for dinner is morally OK). In the society of the United States, cannibalism is NOT ok. And no one needs to quote a Bible, Koran or whatever to validate ascribing to this value.
Can we not extend to one another the societal right to have moral values, provided those values to not harm another person or infringe on their civil rights? I am as adamant about defending an atheist's right to say "there is no God," as I am to defend any person's right to say "I personally believe that homosexuality is wrong for me." I don't think that should be offensive to anyone. Many, many times, I have heard the expression "Bible-thumping Christians" on these threads and I do not take offense, despite being a Christian. People are entitled to their opinions and values. The "Bible-thumper" statement might hurt my feelings (if I were sensitive...fortunately, I'm not), but it doesn't harm me in any way. So, I have no problem with it.
Just food for thought...

Thanks MsG, hee hee...I enjoy my beanie propeller...others like it as well. ; )
sotheysay and other religiously inclined folks (strong) - yes you certainly do have the right to your morality, belief system, and judgment thereof based upon your faith. I don't mean to belittle your faith...I was only using humor to explain my lack of it. It's my wish to not offend so I am not trying to deride or castigate anyone but I am trying to point out my sense of humanistic morality at the same time. More often than not, they do tend to coincide...murder is wrong, rape is wrong, etc.
It's my opinion that homosexuality is not a choice and as such it doesn't make any sense then to me how it could be sinful.
Strong you are indeed free to state that you think homosexuality is morally wrong...but I'm afraid it will offend some. Not me, but it will offend some. It bugs me that some believe that but, such is life.
I'm sure some would be offended by my professing that I believe in a woman's right to an abortion. I don't want to offend them, but I can't in good conscience compromise my own opinion on that. All i can offer is this "I am sorry if perchance my belief system of some things offends those folks."
I do respect you strong for being honest and respectful about your belief system in as much as such moralistic arguments are necessarily problematic.
In as much as it's possible, i respectfully disagree that homosexuality is inherently sinful.

So they say,
My last words to you on this; using your logic.
I don't believe in WHITE people; I am one, but what the heck maybe I will try and change.
I don't believe in people with blue eyes, they should all by contacts and change their eye color,
I don't believe that anyone is "born" Jewish: They should all be Catholic, cause everyone knows only Catholics go to heaven.
I don't believe in African Americans, they should try and be more like white people.
I think anyone who choses it to believe, or not to believe in God is well within there rights, and I would never challenge them on that right.
You are CLUELESS and are attempting a conversation that you are not smart enough to participate in. Others here who believe differently can, at least, talk intelligently about it. I am not upset by MA STRONG, Terri, and others beliefs that differ from mine.... you just don't make any sense!
